  1. I went to this bar couple of months ago just out of curiosity. Its like going back 40 years in time. It reminded me of an old time dance club - the sort of thing you see in gangster movies and the like. Worth a visit just for the 'Pino band and singers and to sit at little round tables with a lamp and shade. Even the service guys seem to be from another era. The service is superb and the guys wearing what I remember as bow tie & tails. 100b for beer from memory.
  2. Seems to be no end to this girls good heart. She has now posted a few pics donating stuff to a baby hospital. Its quite well known for really being an orphanage and has a number of youngsters born with HIV. For those that do not know - state funding is pretty thin on the ground so most rely on private donations of food, clothing, cash etc to keep things going. I have also given a couple of my spare tickets to June to come down to the Volleyball and see what its all about and so she can meet many of the forum guys. By the way, that is her daughter in the pic. No idea who the boy is or who took the pic (probably her Thai BF - also very nice guy).
  3. Don't worry - the railway is turning to the spirit world for assistance. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/transport/369618/srt-turns-to-divine-for-help
  4. That is a very valid point. Whenever I have seen it kick off - its normally as a result of exactly what you describe - i.e. the girl being treated poorly and then not being tipped for whatever she has done. Second biggest is when its a jealousy angle. i.e. the girl has for whatever reason assumed, the guy is her customer only. As others have picked up on already, it normally happens in a drug/alcohol induced state. No different really to whenever these things kick off anywhere in the world. But to the OP's point - the mass brawl is actually not that common. Even less common is the destruction of the motorbike. What seems to have occurred there is very rare however knowing the guy involved - it maybe his direct approach which resulted in it happening. That approach is fine with foreigners but to a Thai it can often be too "In your face" if you get my meaning.
  5. Yup And as cute as they come. (but I have no idea how she "arrived") Just look on her own FB page - I put it before I think - that is her daughter - whom she takes to nursery every morning after closing the bar (then going to get the girl and going to school). She is a sound kid on that score alone IMHO.
  6. Without knowing it - June opened at just the right time. She has been a big beneficiary from the fall out in Soi 4. Not just top tier girls (Luk Tan, Gow and Pern - you cannot get better than these 3) but regular customers and some of the stakeholders. These guys are not shy at dropping 5000b in a night on drinks. Most of it seems to be going into the CIB till thus helping her to open an inside bar as well as the street cart. Foreigners can only vote with their wallets on this point and much of it is is supporting this little cart operation because a) the issues elsewhere but perhaps more importantly - its June - she is awesome. Just great hostess, relaxed and hard working. More to the point, she is building up to put her young daughter through school and Uni - she is focused for sure. A nice change in this scene. For sure a lot of guys are willing her on to get the indoor bar opened as soon as possible.
  7. The simple idea's are often the best. Seems to be working at Check In Bar and they are going from strength to strength. Cheap drinks, Cheap barfines, Lots of talent & great atmosphere from happy girls. Simple but effective formula to keep the seats filled with happy punters. If she can pull it off, I suspect June will also have an indoor bar adjacent to the current venue very soon. Personally I think its well deserved - I have never known a LB so focused on what she is building up - heck the girl does not even drink - that must be a first.
  8. No idea why it works but it does (for me at least) and recommended by an expat when I first came to Asia - home of the coldest aircon offices in the world. Echinacea Forte - natural herb for colds and all that stuff. take 2 when you feel it coming on, 2 when you go to bed or wake up. Right as rain in 24-36 hours. Can buy almost any pharmacy that sells vitamins incl Boots in Thailand. I was as cynical as anyone but it seriously does work. As for the rest of vitamins - just good diet and if feeling run down - a few multi vitamins.
  9. Last time I went down this soi, the only difference was that their were far fewer girls parading outside - almost non existent bar 1 or 2 at each bar entrance.
  10. That will kill probably 40% of Cascades barfines I suspect. Having no In-plaza ST rooms will deffo have a big impact on the shy guys.
  11. I am not sure what your commenting on re an apology? Noon certainly has not appologised to anyone at least as far as I know- although some of the other shareholders have gone into speak with her. As far as she is concerned, they are not owed one cent. Ironically, these guys were some of the higher spending customers in the bar. Now, they hardly ever darken its door.
  12. The fact that half a dozen forum guys have lost in pure cash 700,000b let alone the value of a business worth 5,000,000b by its P/E ratios seems lost on many. Those are the cold hard LOSSES. Forget the spin from Noon - she ain't even running things now - its a family cash grab plain and simple. Her step father is in one of the pics behind the bar as she has no clue what to do. her family are much smarter to grab it.
  13. As I said - I thought better of the guys on this forum- my mistake.
  14. They are not Juri's pics and they are at least one month old. I thought better of the guys here - but maybe not.
  15. The change for her is good, indeed very very good. I also hope she lasts the course and does not return to the scene, at least with her last group of mates who set her on the wrong path. Joy is a great kid and deserves better - still to this day, I have not seen a better, friendlier service girl in any bar. She really does light up any room with her smile and spirit.
  16. Why bring US$ cheques - your just doing a double conversion on currency. GBP T/C's are just as welcome and you do not have an exchange difference to factor in. (assuming Amex still issue GBP T/C's!!)
  17. It was sorely tempting and she looked sexy as hell in that outfit, at least to me!!! I was actually single at the time I was on the bus - Noon was history and the current encumbant not started. I could have joined the 100kmh club by squeezing into the toilet compartment. However as a decent(ish) sort of chap - it just was not cricket - not that that did not stop me thinking about it on the way from Korat to BKK as I was served my coca cola by a not so pretty GG wearing furry bedroom slipper things.
  18. Seeing that pic of Joy whipping off the service team skirt, brought back some memories - such a sweet kid. Now sorting her life out and away from the P4P game (at least for now) and working "on the buses". here are some recent pics of this super sweet midget all dolled up for going to work on the VIP bus and often to be seen between BKK and Issan where she serves the drinks & snacks onboard. One little known snippet - I was actually on one of those buses that stopped at a rest/toilet point and I noticed a hostess standing outside with her back towards our exit, adjacent to where our bus had pulled up among a half dozen others. I noticed her because of the sexily tight suit with the little hat and legs clad in 'hose and 5" pumps. The other hostesses were nowhere near as well turned out and sloppy in comparison. Only as I strolled off toward the toilet did I hear a call of "Boss, boss,My real name - remember me?" turned around the very same girl was Joy. Unfortunately not on my bus more is the shame.
  19. Bad news, especially as it was not even raining last night. Have to say, I thought the same when I came down Soi Bukhuea for The party the other night. There was hardly any traffic - not even motorbikes and the crossroads with Soi Diana was easy - nothing there.
  20. http://www.savanvegas.com/visarun/#about 1,999b for the visa service & one nights hotel in the casino. All meals included. To do that you have to go up overnight and cross border around 8-9am. Then you give your passport to the VIP staff. You get passport back the next day with either single entry or double entry tourist visa (1000 & 2000b respectively govt fee). You do NOT need to go the consulate and queue - they do that for you. Probably the easiest visa place on the land borders - albeit flying is a pain as Mukdahn has no airport and Sawanaket is expensive to fly to. Best option is VIP overnight bus at circa 650b o/w to Mukdahan then Tuk Tuk from the bus station to the Casino office @ the bridge (you must tell them you want casino office in MUKDAHAN - otherwise they will try and drive you to the casino @ 1,500b rather than the 100b to the office before the border. Jump into the minibus through Thai Immigration and onto Laos immigration. Pay 1500b or lower in US dollars if you have any for the Laos visa. You will be checking into the hotel some 10 minutes later. Downside is you may struggle to find much talent in Sawanaket - its a pretty sleepy town. Casino is good fun though. Edit - I have never crossed a land border before and it was devoid of people, trucks or anything. Maybe just struck lucky but had visions of chaos - there was none of that whatsoever. All very civilised - especially with the casino transfers probably greasing a few palms at the various checkpoints. Did not even notice anything remotely like a customs officer/desk
  21. Same Tong - been back at GB for about 2 months and now left again.
  22. Tong is working at an alco cart on Sukhumvit with Nan & May. Saw all three of them last night. Its between Soi 7 & Soi 7/1 directly under Nana BTS escalator. Tong has left Guess as in her words "no customer".
  23. The drink discount is genuine. Previously beers were 150b in Temptation.
  24. Why not - its summer on the East coast !!! Shed load more things to be enjoying outside than looking on the internet. (say's he sweltering in the heat and finding aircon + internet a workable solution LOL). I really do miss the seasons. Maybe its time to do a winter trip to England. That will convince me to stay put in the tropics !!!!!

    Best Internet

I have a 3G aircard as a backup to my cable internet - there is no noticeable difference in speeds and the aircard thus far, is more reliable. AIS is the service provider I am using. circa 3000b for the device and 990b month with max 3g download of 4gb, then it reverts to edge service which is paltry 256k download. I believe all the service providers in Thailand, have such limits. AIS is certainly 3G covered in Pattaya - not sure about other companies.
