I usually get single entry visas at Portland by mail. They want a visa form, two photos and $40 and that is all. I can get one in person in Denver (one hour drive) but they want a bank statement and flight conformations. However for a single entry they only require $700 in the bank. Seems kind of silly. But it's easier to mail than drive. If you want to get that visa extended 30 days in Thailand that might be interesting with the new TM30 phone app. One is suppose to register themselves within 24 hours of arriving in Thailand on the app. If you register yourself and your landlord doesn't, your landlord registers you and you don't register or neither of you register you then expect a fine if you try and extend any entry. There is a story floating around on the boards about someone that didn't report herself and was reported several places where she stayed. Supposedly she was fined 12,000 baht at immigration. I'm not exactly sure what I have to do when I arrive. I don't need to get an extension. If both me and my lodging don't report me not sure if I am OK or will get popped when I exit. But the Thais have made life more difficult again.

I read on another site you can even do a METV online in EU (maybe just UK?). Apparently no online option is available in the US yet.

I would like to find a condo near The Avenue but I need cleaning options that don't cost and arm and a leg. Many condos don't have good cleaning options and I'm too lazy to do it myself.

I didn't see that review on Trip Advisor so guess it was another site. Not terribly unusual for steep steps in guest houses as steps are serious wasted space in a narrow shop house layout. Plus each step is often smaller than in the west. Kind of small for my big feet. At the guest house where I usually stay the steps are pretty steep. Last trip there was a guy staying on the 2nd floor (third floor if you are English and many other nationalities). He had to walk up two flights of stairs to his room. He must have weighed about 400 pounds and was not young. It took him about 10 minutes to make it up the steps and he made lots of grunts and said many "Oh no" as he climbed the steps. Rather sad really but you see the type in Pattaya fairly often. He would move aside as I passed him on the steps. Pretty funny on Trip Advisor as someone reviewed the gentleman's club on the ground floor instead of the accommodations. AWFUL Terrible place for a bar, overweight obese staff. Polite and friendly but no idea how to look after you. Overacting and Dateless on how to cater for anyone experienced, so not for anyone expecting something special. Sorry total

Umm never mind I'll let that one pass. Looks good, I've been too lazy to check out some of these places on Soi Lengkee. They have quite the variety of rooms. Double Room with Balcony , Deluxe Queen Room , Superior Double or Twin Room with City View, Standard Single Room, Standard Single Room with Shower and Economy Double Room. Every room must be different. Best I can tell doesn't appear to cost anymore during high season. Might try and have a look this winter but most of there rooms are booked so might be hard to get in one for a look. I know Colywob stays in a place (unknown) on Lengkee for 12k baht a month. So there are some bargains around.

When I first started going to Pattaya people often said Soi Yamato/Post Office/Pattayaland1/Pattayaland2. But these days I think it's better understood to just say Soi 13/1/2/3/4. Villa Markets in Thailand, as well as the grocery store in SM Mall in Angeles City, have been using pseudo plastic bags for years. I have no idea how effective they are at breaking down but do feel a bit different than regular plastic bags.

The airport named U-Tapao (ohh-ta-POW) is closer to Pattaya than Swampy but is still a bit of a drive. Likely easier than going to Swampy though. It was a US airbase during the Vietnam war and now is a joint Thai military air base and commercial airport. Bangkok Air has been flying the route for many years. I'm going to try and steer the conversation over to this thread instead of the TJ's thread. I was thinking the other day when Jimbo was at C&D and TJ's he had a Thai LB/GG to "run" the LBs (Ning Nong and Em). Wonder if Cindy can help/perform in this role? Or is just a partner in the business. Would make sense if Cindy is up to the job. At the very least she might command a bit of respect.

It's been a few years but I used to watch an occasional Premier League game in Sweethearts Bar before many of the current sports bars opened. At that time they would get a respectable number of fans in for the games. It's a nice setup and you can see they have good seating. Making it a cozy venue will take a bit of effort but Jimbo is likely the right man for the job.

Naklua is little Germany. The Germans dominate the local scene. I think it's likely the Germans will still go to the bar. I'll still go to the bar but even when Jimbo was there I didn't go that much. It's a nice bar and a nice change of pace if staying a long time in Pattaya.

Cough I just get a baht bus north on 2nd Road and if it goes into Naklua great. If it turns onto Beach Road I get off and walk. But I usually stop and eat on Soi 33 so that breaks up the walk. It will be interesting to see what LBs stay and what LBs go. A number are very loyal to Em. A number live on site as there are rooms upstairs for the LBs. So it's more than just a bar to some of them. A LB like Lily can go any damn place she pleases. Cabaret was a Jimbo thing. There was some friction over him wanting to remove another pool table and have a permanent stage. It never happened. So who knows if cabaret will still be around. I am not a fan so that would be OK with me.

It all just doesn't seem to matter anymore. The dollar is about the only semi stable currency left and changed little against the baht recently. But both central banks lowered their interest rate 25 basic points recently. The Pound and Euro seem to be in a death spiral until their economies turn around and there is the ever present Brexit overhang. The world economy is not a pretty picture ATM.
