  1. Some pretty impressive nominations, tho I admit to being musically otherwise engaged during the punk era (ie., it wasn't my coming of age soundtrack). But the other stuff is impressive. The song Tim Buckley is singing in one of the earliest posts, "The Dolphins", was actually written by my favorite "obscurity": Fred Neil. He's the most famous (60's) musician you never heard of: Dylan's first appearances in NYC was on stage backing him, Jefferson Airplane did his songs & wrote a couple about him (Ballad of you & me & pooneil), also Roy Orbison, the Dead, the Spoonful.... maybe the first folkie to go electric.... His meal ticket was writing "Everybody's Talking at Me", used that to quit the music biz & move to Florida & work with dolphins. A legendary recluse - there's no film & not a lot of photos of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP4wnGTwLtg&feature=related
  2. One of those really simple things you can do on a mac, but I had no clue.... thanks for the tip!
  3. Hey,that's my line!
  4. As an essentially child of the 60's I decided after my first couple of trips to LOS in the early 90's that a stay in Thailand was a current day stand-in for some of the "experimenting", if you know what I'm saying, that I used to enjoy back then. (Yes, I was a scientist in 1967... ) Put another way it was a sense of heightened experience where things seemed familiar but aspects were unexpected, exciting or disturbing: the food was meat/veg/rice but the unusual combinations of flavors & the incendiary chiles would often literally take my breath away.... the constant heat & humidity weighed down on me like a physical presence always, and the long breeze-free nights offered no respite (most of my early memories there are nighttime scenes colored by beer & rice whiskey)... grey & green tinged florescent light shadows echoing everywhere....unceasing lines of traffic pulsing down all the main roads at all hours day & night & I would turn into a minor soi & somebody would be leading an elephant towards me... walking into a disco (Angels, or Marine) & seeing a wall to wall mob of beautiful smiling girls in the smoke... meeting the local expats, some of whom could be described as eccentric, criminal?, murky backgrounds & misfits... and then the ladyboys..... Granted after 16 years I have become acclimated & it's not a psychoactive event now. All those things I mentioned, and more, are taken in stride, more or less, & enjoyed thoroughly, routinely... And there is always something new to contemplate, which is an antidote to my day to day routine back home.
  5. Dear Abby, I'm one of those who could never stand the smell of aftershave lotion or men's colognes on me or anyone else. I bought 1 bottle of "Old Spice" when I was 15-16 y/o & I probably still have it around here somewhere.... Where I live it is the guys in the "wife-beaters" who favor it. Even though the smell of cologne reminds me of being stuck in an crowded elevator in Riyaad, I suppose now that I am entering my "golden years" I will resort to experimenting with it in LOS to see if it is indeed ladyboy bait! Signed, Shameless
  6. If that's the case folks in the US should keep checking with AA since they always connect through Tokyo, usually continuing with JAL.
  7. Thanks for sharing this riveting story..... I think the porn business is only rivaled by the music business for sleazy characters.
  8. Hey all, just stopped by for the first time to see the new place here....hope this new venue succeeds, it still has that new ladyboy forum smell! I'm acclimating to the "wintry mix" here back home after 2 weeks of LOS warmth. Hope it won't be so long to get back next time. Best o' luck!
