  1. You and i live pretty much the same Pdogg. I don't deliberately budget 500 baht a day but over a month probably spend about the same. Easy when you don't drink, although i confess that smoking and 7-11 coffee are my vices. i used to consider that not eating thai food was a problem [i hate it] but it isn't really, the secret is to cook at home. Even foreign food can be cheap in Thailand if you do so. e.g, last night...chicken breast, salad, a few home made chips, peas. doubt the whole lot cost much more than 60 baht. Knock the restaurants on the head and savings are good, and the food is possibly better! Of course it's different for guys on holiday, The big mistake expats make is to live as though they are permanently on holiday too. Nowadays cafe food for me is a once a fortnight or so thing, usually if i manage to drag myself into Pattaya from my home in Jomtien. In the final end though concerning those of us who live here, it's all down to how big the pension is or savings are. And how you want to live. I'm very happy that my mongering days are to an extent over... not for any reasons of age, health etc, i just became jaded with it all. I've been here too long! If any little Thai ever asks me again "what your name-where you from?" i'd smack them around the head! good god...i was hearing all that back in 1984. My one big rule in Thailand is never buy anything that won't fit into a backpack. Posessions mean nothing. The only time i broke that rule was when i bought the bicycle. One day i intend to [maybe] move to the Phillipines, but that may depend on the ridiculous Thai visa rules changing for the worse. i want an invite to one of Rom's parties! Even now in these exchange rate debacle days i still save 30% of my pension in England and have done for some time, yes, i could get that over here every month and live the high life... but like you i don't want to live that way. I'll carry on saving for possible medical expenses, or when i move if i do... it will help to move easily...no more sleeping on park benches for me! As for bars? It's Emmy for me! I've been to TJs 2-3 times and would like to go more often perhaps.. but the problem with there is the distance... not a problem going, just one bus ride, but iffy for coming back, especially with the sometimes need for a toilet! The rest of the Soi Buck bars... don't touch them, not interested. Too many cliques.
  2. excellent Rom, nice to see some of them again, some i haven't seen before. Must say i'm a big fan of your video stuff, not particularly of the photo's you used to post, but not criticising those, just saying. Nowadays i'm much more a fan of the Bumblebee type stuff, nice but not blatant. now i see why you got banned! you dared to slag The Roof! The Holy sacrosanct [and free drinks for the mods ? ] Nirvana in the Pattaya firmament. I got slagged once or twice too for the same comment as yours [not a ladyboy bar etc] i also recall you and i were of the first to mention the ridiculous situation of Emmy being a ladyboy bar owner and not allowed to see the thread that Quietguy started for her. You've got to appreciate this forum! i do, and Emmy certainly does. long may it continue.
  3. no Rom, Doncaster. long before KK signed for Scunthorpe. We both trialed for Doncaster, both failed.. i don't feel too bad about it now! i'l leave it up to you to decide the big mistake they made...... my nickname when playing [usually shouted from the other players] was either "dickhead or Wanker'...
  4. yes Rom, you're right about the Bob Dylan thing but the BM name...You're on the right track..nothing to do with the Beatles really, and from long before Virgil Van Dyke. Liverpool actually originated from schooldays. i used to go to school with Kevin Keegan. My later girlfriend was a friend of Jean, KKs wife. sad to say the very last time i saw him was at their wedding reception all those years ago. We used to play Sunday league football together... i had all the talent, but he had all the luck! honest!
  5. are you still doing the great Hitler stuff Rom? you should stick one of them on here for the guys to see who may not have seen before. very funny!
  6. i'll happily do that for you Archie, no worries. consider it done. also news is filtering through concerning a Meet and greet in feb/march- not sure of the date yet but it will be a big one. watch for details in january.
  7. easy to see who's the boss then start as you mean to go on S.P!
  8. ah...sorry Quinn...i did search for it... forgot about that section. i'll get you an additional designer stirrer today as an apology! you know what i mean.
  9. and also....at the same event.... not quite as pretty as teya.... but it's his birthday too, so we'll let him come. A good man indeed...Annat. art work again by Quinn.
  10. Mr Quinn is getting Lazy...or forgetful... so i'll do it! Of course, Artwork by the main man.
  11. Not to worry Nosh.... Jomtien is already buzzing and agog with excitement and anticipation. Red carpet is out on Soi 4.. Police Motorbike outriders are already on the way to escort the Zaza bus. A Kangeroo has been borrowed from the Zoo and is chained up outside the Katty bar [don't get too excited SP... remember Dao will be with you] A Billabong [whatever they are] is under construction outside the Katty.... Billy's are already boiling. But sorry, we can't find anyone called Matilda! Stereotyping? not me!
  12. what! you'll be watching a Man Utd game ? ! sorry Duke! 11 points clear is just the start Ciobha... wait until the boys start playing on top form...still to come.
  13. try as i might...i can't think of an answer to that! but then again...it's probably better not to think about it too much.......... hope to see some of you guys at the Noshing with Nosher night tonight!
  14. oh my-my. Have only seen this topic recently, and all the nightmares are coming back. And please guys help me out here and never talk about plastic bags and Baked Beans in the same sentence. Er...like i have just done.. I should say here that i'm now of the Quietguy and backpack school of thought [however much it pains me to agree with him....] I guess that you all all wondering by now what on earth i'm talking about? maybe you're thinking that Ol' Blind boy is having some sort of Acid flashback to '68? You know what i mean... Purple Haze in the brain and all that? Fear ye not... in time all will come clear.... anyway, you've got to have a brain to have flashbacks! 'Twas but a month or so ago when Ol' Blind Boy went to the store to buy a couple of tins of Baked Beans. Italian ones from Foodmart are by far the best other than Heinz of course [just a useful bit of info there!] and also the cheapest. So, off on my trusty bicycle [Mo the grod] to foodmart i went. Oh dear...i'm not explaining very well am i? 'Mo the grod' is the name of my trusty steed. If you're reading this Duke... The bike isn't named after your friend Mona... but after a certain Egyptian footballer... 'grod' being slang for a bicycle at the school i went to all those years ago in those pre Purple Haze days.. oh what am i doing? i'm rambling that's what. So to cut what should be a short story even shorter. There i was riding back along beach Road burning rubber with a plastic bag and 2 tins of beans dangling from the handlebars. When suddenly the back wheel went straight up in the air and i went flying over the said handlebars leaving Mo in the middle of the road. Looking a bit forlorn but possibly not as embarrassed as i was. I just couldn't work out what had happened..at first i thought i'd been hit by a car...but no, the back wheel was fine. I got back on the bike and rode home, sort of noticing that the front wheel was a little wobbly to say the least. Parking the bike i went to the condo and thought...mmmm...maybe a little lie down is in order. Which i duly proceeded to have. Waking up a couple of hours later i noticed [could hardly miss it really] that the bed was covered in blood, from a hell of a graze below the knee... didn't even know i'd done it... no pain whatsoever. Eventually after sorting that out and picking half of beach road from the leg with tweezers i checked the plastic bag to find two tins of crushed baked beans... very crushed. Went down to check the bike and found a front wheel with 3 spokes ripped out of the rim. It seems that the dangling bag had decided to wrap itself between the front fork and the wheel. But here's the great thing! for 60 years i've had a blue knee... i.e half of a Yorkshire road embedded in the knee below the skin... [that was 2 weeks off school... great!] But as the scab has finally dropped off from the latest disaster i can see that the northern grit has been ripped out as a result of the recent scrape. I have a proper coloured knee again! how can one man be so lucky?... so... every story should have a moral... and this could be...... [you decide] 1.always listen to Uncle Quietguy... 2. don't eat baked Beans... 3. don't be a stupid 70 year old riding a bicycle..... whilst carrying a plastic bag.
  15. okay...god knows what i did! mind you it was 2 a.m. think i did the black button. but i definitely clicked on evening time [or whatever} and disabled the 'all day' hang on until Tool Noshers bash is over and the Mighty Quinn will post the Teya poster and details. always remember P. i'm a technological idiot!
  16. yes Pdoggg... i can see the green button... and humbly confess that i turned off the all day event option....sorry!
  17. just wait SJ.... the spats will soon be back no doubt! but i guess this forum isn't the place to discuss that forum, much as i'd like to! but as you have found, and i agree... here is a much more pleasant place to be... and there are vacancies for fluffers and oil-up men from time to time......
  18. i tried to add Teya's birthday part 29 dec at the Katty Pdoggg...couldn't get it to work though.
  19. obviously us Jomty boys will make our own way SP... unless i can sit on Sophia's knee on the bus of course! [don't tell Bighorn i said that!]
  20. nice idea about the free bus S.P. i'd imagine a trip with the zaza crew on a baht bus would set the evening off nicely! i might just go into patts to ride back on it! okay...8.30.... i guess that emmy will start the bbq about 9ish. seems sensible?
  21. Nosher.... Fan7 has posted on the nasty forum....bus leaves at 8.30 sharp... you want to confirm? also any idea yet how many zaza crew will be coming? [i know it's difficult] just thinking whether emmy needs to borrow a big table from the temple. ah! sorry Nosher...your update came in as i was writing!
  22. not really Archie...it's just the way that they have worked out. it's actually better sometimes to keep them away from weekends particularly during the english football season. The planning committee... [me and Quinn!] did at one point discuss days and sort of thought that as most people either live here permanently or are on holiday anyway...then weekends don't come into it. Basically, what date or day people want...they shall get.
