dixon cox
After many ups and downs, China has finally won the railway cooperation project with Thailand. Zhu Xijun, general manager of the Southeast Asia Company of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), said on Aug 26 that after six rounds of negotiation, both sides plan to sign the inter-governmental framework agreement on the China-Thailand Railway project in early September, and the commencement ceremony of the project is expected to be held in the end of October, Xinhua reported. http://www.china.org.cn/wap/2015-08/29/content_36449439.htm The planned railway project will cover four sections in Thailand, namely from Bangkon to Kaengkoi, from Kaengkoi to Map Ta Phut, from Kaengkoi to Nakhon Rachasima, and from Nakhon Rachasima to the northern border province of Nong Khai. The railway will run northward to connect another train route leading to the Laos capital Vientiane and Kunming in China, and run southward to connect a route to Malaysia and Singapore. http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?cid=1201&MainCatID=12&id=20150830000002
bumblebee
Once in China it would be possible to connect up with the Trans Siberian railway I'd imagine. Then once you get to Moscow you could rail it back to Europe proper. Now that would be some journey. Hua Hin to London by train.
Pdoggg
Will it be possible to travel from Thailand to Europe by train? In the meantime is anyone up for a road trip? Now you can pack your bag to head for those scenic tourist spots and take a 3000 km road journey to Thailand from India’s North East, through a four laned highway passing through Myanmar. Sure you will need to take a visa from Myanmar. The India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) trilateral highway, which entails linking India to Myanmar and then further to Southeast Asia is now operational. It was a strategic project that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up as priority. The trilateral highway can drastically enhance the connectivity between the Mekong sub-region and India and prove to be a game-changer for India’s northeast region which is an important component in the government’s plans to ramp up its “Look East” policy to the newly coined “Act East” policy. The Asian highway runs from Moreh in India to Thailand’s Maesot via Myanmar’s Tamu, Mandalay and Myawaddy. If you did decide to take the roadtrip, it would take 14 days to cover the 4,500 km drive. http://www.newsmobile.in/articles/2015/09/02/now-you-can-drive-from-india-to-thailand/
