JaiDee
I thought this was post-worthy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean%27s_Bar ''It claims to be the oldest pub in Ireland, dating back to 900'' Quote Link to comment
ciobha
Interesting, there is a pub just off the main Belfast - Dublin road, the name escapes me at the minute, which has always claimed to be the oldest pub in Ireland!!! I shall enlist the help of my friend Google and see if I can dig up more information. Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
I looked up the town of Athlone, seems to be just down the road a piece from where my family heritage hails from, around the town of Delvin. Coincidence? I think not Quote Link to comment
Hefe
Had the good luck to float to this destination last year.... that's it across the river, kind of yellow highlights around it. A good pint indeed is to be found here with suitable atmosphere to encourage thirst, good craic as they say. While there wouldn't have been any Guiness 1200 years ago you know the Celts invented whiskey - itself a celtic word. Even rarer than those great pints & "holy water" in a thousand year old pub was a sunny day in Ireland. 2 Quote Link to comment
