Anthony Weiner is running for Mayor of New York.

 

His claim to fame is sending women pics of his wiener.

 

Here's the cover of the latest issue of New Yorker, a rather highbrow magazine, which makes this cover a somewhat surprising choice.

The guy is a joke and a big bully.  his wife is standing by him.  She seems she will do anything to stand by his side in order to enjoy the trappings of whatever office/power he might hold.  Its crazy.  They really both deserve each other.

 

After 12 years of good to great leadership, I fear the city will trend downwards.  That Christine Quinn seems like a real unbalanced shrill shrew.  We (NY ers) are in for a hell of a ride.

 

Also Client number 9 Elliot Spitzer is making a comeback of sorts running for Comptroller.  Now, I dont criticise him for boinking hookers but for being a total hypocrite.  When he was Governor, he went after hookers, madams and johns while partaking himself. These guys look to feed at the public trough because they cannot make it on their own in the private sector.

Thats the problem, NY only has bad choices this election.

Wiener seemed less bad than Quinn, and New Yorker's have a twisted sense of humor...but now he's toast.

Which leaves Quinn and 3 invisible candidates whose name no one knows.

Eliot Spritzer - bankrolled by his wealthy father, came attorney-general of New York and then its Governor. In both positions, he prosecuted several prostitution rings and made a song and dance about it. At the same time, he was a client of a posh escort service, spending tens of thousands of dollars on high class hookers. He was caught by an unrelated federal wiretap. The madam went to jail, he resigned under threat of impeachment, went onto several jobs in the media and is now standing for NYC comptroller. In addition to the gross hypocrisy of his actions, he exposed himself to blackmail, although as far as I know, nobody actually was blackmailing him - but as AG and then Govenor, to put himself in such a position is indefensible.

 

Weiner texted raunchy photographs and words to other consenting adults. No crime, no sex, no adultery (unless having you can have virtual adultery which is an interesting question for many people on this website!) and no hypocrisy. OK, he carried on after he resigned from Congress and said that he would stop, but so what.

 

Why are people getting their knickers in a twist about this? Surely it is up to the adults (and I use the word deliberately -  not children, not convent nuns, but people who have sex lives and who presumable want their politicians to be relatively non-corruptable) in New York City to decide who they elect to govern them. If they decide that they want a man with the moral integrity of a woodlouse or someone who has a predeliction for sending pictures of his member to other consenting adults to be their comptroller, well, it's their choice. Yet the media cover of this appears to be focusing on Weiner, not Spritzer. Perhaps one or more of our North American BMs could comment on what appears to be the assessing of their politicians on prurience measures, not ability or non-corruptability or anything which actually impacts on the job and its outcome.

 

I am interested not least since what happens in American politics tends to cross the Atlantic and take root here in the UK. It would depress me immensely to think that we would get to a position where we consider sexual behavour is more important than integrity and ability.

 

I also believe that people by and large get the politicians they deserve which would make me even more depressed!

Look sex sells and a salacious sex scandal involving a politician is red meat to the "news" media.  Many sectors in American society can be quite prudish.  You definitely would not think that about the electorate of NY City since its so liberal.

 

A lot of times its less about the scandal and more about the cover up.  This asshole Weiner just lied and dodged the first time he got caught sexting.  The guy acted in a sleazy, low brow manner.  He made a big deal about him getting "treatment" and he and his wife playing the happy family.  Its all bullshit. The sad part is that the guy had a legit shot at winning had all this stuff NOT come out.  He had name recognition and the other candidates are absolute muppets.  i really fear the way NY City will go after Nanny Mike goes....

 

As for Spitzer, the same thign applies.  its about the sleaze and salaciousness of it all. The public drinks it all up.  The worst part of it is his rank hypocrasy of it all.  He went after hookers, madams, brothels and, to a lesser extent, johns.  He was a real bully as Governor as well.

The only good thing you can say about Spitzer is at least he went after Wall Street.

Scandal aside, Wiener never accomplished anything during his 12 years in congress.

be careful what you wish for.  If all these muppets drive "Wall Streeters" and thier ilk away, thats going to put a severe crimp into NYCitys coffers.  Its one of the main industries in NY City.  I know the powers that be barked about the obscene bonuses.  Its funny one year when the bonuses dipped the same jerk offs barked about shrinking revenues!!!

 

Now, we all know that there is a lot of dirt and sleaze on Wall street and those law breakers must be watched/taken to task.  but if you know anything about the Madoff scandal, you would know that the govt was absolutely CLUELESS!!!!!

 

You know how Spitzer got busted??   Wall Street enemies saw Weiner standing on line at the mani NY City Post office getting money orders to pay the hookers!!!  Thats how it all began.  Cant make this shit up!!!!

God fearing folk probably don't like the idea of a female POTUS munching on a Muslim's magic carpet.  Huma lived in Saudi Arabia from the age of 2 until she was 17.
