duke007
I wonder what he will have played at his funeral, "Fly me to the Moon" by Frank Sinatra perhaps Quote Link to comment
KenW
A great man: unassuming, humble, intelligent, a leader. He later became a professor of aeronautical engineering at MIT. What one wouldn't have given to have visited a faculty forum at MIT and meet him. But I guess being who he was, he would have avoided such functions. Prior to the Apollo 11 mission he, as mission commander, was asked quietly if he would like the erratic and perhaps unreliable Aldren removed and replaced. No, he replied. Despite being closer to and having more respect for others on the program (Deke Slayton's name came up) he said that he found Aldren professional in training and they got on OK. His defence of a team member as team leader sets him apart from those of perhaps other types of egos. Quote Link to comment
