I recently picked up a copy on the cheap of a film titled Gosford Park.......A British period-piece murder mystery.......... There is a young lady in the film whose face looked so familiar but I couldn't place her........ Finally I gave in and turned to Google.... Seems her name is Kelly McDonald - no relation to Ronald - Born and raised in Glasgow - A proper Scottish lass I recognized her because of her magnificent performance as Josh Brolin's wife in No Country For Old Men.......In which she has the most perfect Texas drawl, "Your mother's dead, Llewelyn." Some years ago I was shocked to learn that the star of the TV show House - Hugh Laurie - was a Brit...And more recently I came out of my cave long enough to learn that Gary Oldman is also British....Both actors capable of perfect Yank accents.... I am sure there are many many more and some day I will venture out of my cave to discover their names......... So how come all you Brits haven't shared your abilities with your Yank brothers and sisters......... Every time I hear a Yank try and imitate a Brit it sounds to my ear so very fake......... I have NetFlix or I have access to it.....But I don't know how to use it.......I think it is something I would get on my computer but I'll be damned if I want to watch a movie or TV program on my computer....But I guess I can hook my computer to my TV and so I bought all the cables to do that but can't quite figure that out either......So instead I have like 600 or so DVDs........I just keep buying them...And when I die it will be my daughter's problem.... I am defo not a technical kind of person....The other day I was having phone problems and was told the fix was easy....upgrade to a newer operating system...So I found out I could upgrade to something called Ice Cream for free from the manufacturer....Following a YouTube how to video it took me nearly all day to upgrade using my computer when it should have taken no more than an hour........The upside...My phone works much better....The downside...I got a whole fucking new operating system to learn......This ain't No Country for Stupid Old Men.............

I recently discover an older film from 2001...In my true glacial fashion I am sometimes decades slow.... The film is titled Green Dragon...It stars Patrick Swayze and Forest Whitaker...They are actually the only English speakers in the film save one Vietnamese gent.....The remainder of the cast are Vietnamese...... The scene is 1975 right before the fall of Saigon...A new Vietnamese refugee camp has been established at Camp Pendleton a Marine base north of San Diego, California......It is the story of a special friendship that develops between Swayze the NCO in charge of this camp and an English speaking Vietnamese he hires to help him....and Whitaker, the camp cook, and a young Vietnamese boy who can't speak a lick of English but they soon become fast friends.... and all because of Mighty Mouse............. It's a very nice story and worth a look... The second film I highly highly highly recommend is titled Snowflower and the Secret Fan.....From a novel by the same title although the film is a bit different....It is Chinese and the women are to die for.............A story about a very very special friendship between two women....... A must see if you are an old romantic like me..... And best of all, I just recently got a copy of a Thai film that I enjoyed many years back...It is titled Guan Moon Ho in English Hello Stranger...I saw the film about 3 times while visiting Thailand a while back...In fact I dragged PD and his lovely along on one viewing and as I recall they enjoyed the film.....I bought a copy only to discover on my return home that it was all in Thai with no subtitles...So I donated it to the LA Thai Consulate - I often did that and it does speed up the visa process - All these years later I found a copy by chance online...It has brought back all those great memories...... It is a simple romantic comedy....Thai style... that takes place in Korea...It is a Thai film but one that stands well along side most western romantic comedies....
