So how do the bars survive? A bar can thrive if you give the customer a great experience. Last night TJ's was packed with customers. Guess what is a bit unusual is that TJ's has two groups of customers, the mongers and the civilians. Why should civilians drink in a crappy Naklua bar when you can have the TJ experience? Good music, entertainment, attractive ladyboys, no pressure, and most of all FUN. I think to survive in these bad times a bar must have a USP. It might be a popular owner that has lots of mates. Many ladyboy bars fall into this category. Or a bar where the regulars feel it's their clubhouse and don't want to be anywhere else, a proper local so to speak such as Katty Bar. Could be a joint like the Windmill where guys are eating pussy. Personally, I like the Avenue Mall exactly the way it is. A movie theatre that's never crowded, a reasonably priced food court even though the food isn't very tasty, a Mr DYI store. Even been to Robin Hood restaurant based on Nick's video that Dukie posted. Went too late though and the special Max Menu was done for the night. Strangely, I have never been to The Roof as these past few years I've been going out to socialize less and less. 39 gogos, not beer bars. Will be interesting to see what develops. Guess what I'm wondering is why does it have to be The Avenue rather than a place like the Blue Ratree complex? Rents are 1/4 of Nana Plaza. Maybe Blue Ratree would be 1/4 of The Avenue. Of course having the Avenue turn into Nana will generate more buzz than Blue Ratree.

Most don't have a window if that matters. It's a good spot for a short stay especially if you want to get to Suvarnaphumi by way of the BTS to the Rail Link at Phaya Thai. If you didn't have luggage you could skip the BTS and catch the rail link at the Makkasan stop. Just 35 baht from The hotel is just a two minute walk from the Nana BTS station. Much closer to the station than hotels on Soi 4. On his walk from Soi 11 to Soi 7 he must have passed Vasu Exchange, the very best place to change money of Sukhumvit, closed on Sunday though. He also mentions Soi 22 which has cheaper bars than Nana. The beer bars on Soi 4 aren't cheap for what you get.
