Just booked a November/December fare from LAX to BKK on United for US$ 1018 and a July fate for July on Thai for US$ 1160. However, the Thai flight price was just plain lucky since the airline had posted a price excluding the $400 fuel surcharge by error. That price was available only on line for 2 days before Thai Airline corrected it, now the price is back at US$ 1560 or so.

Thai airline = parent company is Thai Government Ministry of Finance. Yes , it is a "public traded company", but the Ministry of Finance is holding 53.77% of the Shares. Sounds to me like a state run operation.

EVA airlines joining the Star Alliance is great news for us on the US west coast. Thai airlines just terminated their non-stop flights fom LAX to BKK, the only non-stop flight on that route, and started using differen planes thereby eliminating the Premium Economy Class which was certainly worth the extra money. Now EVA provides better and faster service than Thai and a Premium Economy class equal to what Thai used to provide. Makes one wonder what Thai Airline is thinking. Oh Yah, its another state run airline.

The most expensive one (US$ 90) but the best one as well, very good service , nice rooms and an outstanding breakfast buffet. 2. Majestic Suites Hotel on Sukhumvit around the corner from NEP, US$ 45, room quite small, basic, simple breakfast, good sevice. 3, Dynesty Inn on sukhumvit Soi 4, just a few steps away from NEP, no breakfast, basic service, additional charge if more than 1 guest, rooms basic.US$ 50 4.Ivory Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 4 about 500 yards down soi 4 from NEP, US$ 35, large rooms, forget about service, hotel shows its age, has breakfast.

It is my understanding that Bangkok Bank has a branch in New York and is therefore requiered to provide deposit insurance for any funds held in accounts at that branch and that it is possible to transfer funds from your US bank account to a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand via the New York branch. I might be worth exploring if one can open an account at the New York branch and if yes it should be possible to withdraw funds from that account when in thailand.

Yes, there are different types of rooms at different prices starting with a small room (but big bed) and shower to large rooms including hot tub. Yes, this place is spotless and safe, actually it is my understanding that the place is frequented by upper police staff and not for raids. Rio shemales can be a bit on the rough side and Copacabana ( Avenida Atlantica) late at night can be dangerous for a single visitor. Something else to consider is the cost of Medical Evacuation. During my various expat assignments I did witness 2 cases requiering such a thing, both times it was heart attack related (listen up viagra users). First, it resulted in a longer in-country hospital stay until air transport was possible and after that it was by medivac air not comercial airline. The in-country hospital costs where only a small fraction of the medivac costs. So, if your regular home country insurance covers medical costs while traveling it most probably does not cover medical repatriation.

My US insurance covers emergency treatment while traveling but I still get additional travel insurance from Travelex Insurance Services. If one excludes Trip Cancellation coverage a policy for 3 week travel that covers some travel related items like trip interruption but mostly medical expenses (accident/sickness $50,000 and repatriation $500,000)comes to a premium of $58. Thats pretty cheap for peace of mind.

Since having a relationship is not the same as getting married and I assume a 6 month stint would qualify as a relationship and come to think about it anything longer than a one night stand would qualify as well.
