  1. In Thailand, you are correct, there is no legal recognition of same sex marriages. However, they can still have a "temple ceremony" or even a western type marriage ceremony, which has no legal status.
  2. Time flies by and it is time for the annual Miss Tiffany Universe Contest again! It will be held on May 4 at the Tiffany Theatre in Pattaya. Here are a couple videos of registration day that show contestant interviews and some scenes of the activities. There are activities through the week of the contest, some of which are free and open to the public. If you're in Pattaya during this time, it's a good chance to see some of the most beautiful lbs in LOS. I'm hoping to be at the contest this year, and if all goes well, will post photos.
  3. From The Nation, March 17, 2012. Keep this in mind if you're in LOS during those dates.
  4. I am afraid that RJS's generalization that most guys in the bars are nice to the girls is probably not true. It's more likely guys that treat the ladies nicely are a minority. The guys who post on the forums are not the majority of the customers these ladies see. Don't assume that a girl is lying when you hear stories of mistreatment from customers. It only has to happen a few times (and unfortunately may happen more often than that), to give them the wrong impression of farangs. If they do happen to meet a customer who is nice, they probably feel suspicious thinking there may be an ulterior motive. Then if they see a farang in a situation that can easily be misinterpreted - they can feel their suspicions are confirmed (even if wrongly). I'm not saying their behavior is justified, but there are more things involved that we don't often think about.
  5. It's not really a cultural issue as much as how the person views "herself/himself". A transvestite/crossdresser knows he is a man dressing in women's clothes, typically for a sexual turn on. They are not typically focussed on "passing" and don't have the desire to live as a woman 24/7. The person in this story clearly doesn't dress this way 24/7 and does not seem to be want to be viewed as a woman. I do not think this person minds being called masculine pronouns when dressed up in women's clothes.
  6. Here's an important story from The Nation A few important notes: if you have a domestic flight booked on a budget carrier shortly after arriving in LOS, double check where the flight will take off from. This is just announced, so when the rest of the budget airlines will move is still not set. Also keep in mind the commute time will be to Dong Muang. For those currently in LOS and going to the airport note the recommendation to show up at least 3 hours prior to your flight to make sure you won't miss your flight due to the long immigration queues. This is recommended until (or if) they can solve the problem.
  7. If the seated lb is younger than the standing one, it is expected that the younger one will "wai" the older one. However, I get the feeling they may know each other - perhaps just casually.
  8. Happy belated birthday BB! Looks like you had a good time!
  9. Other posters have commented that on the nights they've visited KC3 the selection was not that great. KC3 has a number of part time ladies working. Many of them are University students who work on weekends and on school holidays. That explains the variable selection. If you would like the best odds of catching their best looking staff visit on a weekend night (starting with Friday) and get there around 7-8 pm. The mix is around 60% preops and 40% postop lbs. Don't be shy to ask, as they will be honest about this. Whether or not they can top, you will have to test out in the bar! Here are some photos I took during an Aug 1/10 visit. That night they were having a Miss Cleopatra contest, and their regular staff were the contestants. I was allowed to take photos because of the contest. Normally photos are not allowed inside the bar.
  10. Thanks for the comments guys! It is good that newbies know about KC3 and KC in case they are interested in options outside of the Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy areas. There are some pluses as already mentioned by TT Chang and Snick, but some drawbacks as well pretty much the same as most bars. King's Corner underwent a big renovation in 2010 - leading to some rumors that it was closing. An outside bar was set up on the outside of KC - which resulted in a loss of space for the interior as the walls were moved in, to make space for the outside bar. The interior was also completely redone. No more catwalk style runway with poles, the stage was remade in a circular platform with poles - unfortunately it does not rotate. Some photos to follow to show the differences. The mamasan agreed when I asked her if it was ok to take a few pictures as it was New Year's eve. Sorry can't remember the names of the ladies I took individual snaps of. No. 399 claimed to be "Miss Facebook Ladyboy", but I never got her facebook name to check her claim.
  11. Walked by the hotel this evening. The security guard says it's open. I could see staff inside ready to serve guests. Here is the website:Sukhumvit Sofitel. It says the official opening is April 2012, but it may be having a "soft opening", possibly walk in specials for those who would like to give it a try.
  12. There is no doubt this board excels at coverage for Pattaya, and Cambodia. However, besides the well known Bangkok Nana Plaza Bars, joined by the new Soi Cowboy LB bar, Patpong has some interesting venues. I will be posting photos from visits over the years, up to the most recent from December 2011, and will update periodically whenever I get the chance to check in during my LOS visits. The first set of photos are from King's Corner. This bar features a mix of post-ops and ggs, in a ratio of approximately 60% post-ops and 40% preops. The post-ops in the bar try to pass themselves off as gg's so may not admit to being lbs. Usually easy to spot as they are generally more beautiful than the ggs, and often (but not always) taller. These photos were taken on the evening of Aug. 12, 2007 - a combination of the Queen's Birthday (Mother's Day) and the Mamsan's Birthday. They had a contest which allowed for a photo opportunity. They are generally strict about not allowing photography in the bar, which is the usual practice.
  13. It's great that so many are posting trip reports full of photos! A suggestion for those posting photos - it is a good idea to resize your photos before posting. The forum software will automatically resize photos up to a point, but for those with slower internet connections the photos will take a long time to load. Sometimes the forum software is unable to resize the photo if it is an odd size or too large. You will see that you may need to use the scroll bars to view the whole photo. A good size to choose would be around 800x600 pixels, and around 55 Kb in size. There are various photo resizer programs available on the net. Some are free such as FastStone Image Viewer that also has a resizer built in. For the quote function, you need to do it in the following steps: first click on the "quote" button right above the posting box. You will see the "{quote}{/quote}" boxes. The text you want to quote goes in between the quote boxes.

    Ae vs Rose

This was from his first trip in 2009. At that time she was still preop and in p4p.

    Ae vs Rose

Currently postop and out of the scene for a while now. She was working at C&D's, Patong Beach, Phuket.
  16. More great photos - you definitely should look into getting a photobook published BB! Just a question about the last photos, do you think the razor wire is on the post to prevent theft of the wires/cables? I know in South Africa it is common for thieves to steal the copper wires/cables from the telephone system.
  17. Don't often see much information about Malaysia, understandable since it is a Muslim country. However, there is a scene there. Found a nice Youtube video about a contest there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oszS_xbkERc&feature=related The top 5 finalists are nice!
  18. If you're using an IPad, it isn't compatible with Adobe Flash, which a lot of forum software use.
  19. The terror threat has now been confirmed with a triple bomb blast in Bangkok. Here's the story from Bangkok Post Iranian injured in Bangkok Bombs. Iranian injured in Bangkok bombs Published: 14/02/2012 at 05:17 PM Online news: Security Three explosions rocked Sukhumvit 71 in Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon, badly injuring an Iranian man who lost both his legs. Another man was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport after police discovered explosive materials in a house rented by three Iranians in Soi Pridiphanomyong 31. Four other people were injured in the blasts. Government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng said police reported the house was being used to make bombs and had uncovered a cache of C4 explosives and remote control detonating devices. She said a bomb went off inside the rented house and two of the three men fled. The third man, identified as Saeid Moradi, followed and tried to hail a taxi, which refused to stop. Police said he threw a bomb at the taxi, injuring the driver, and ran off. He then was spotted by police and threw a third bomb at them, but it bounced off a tree and blew his legs off. He was rushed to Kluaynamthai Hospital. Mrs Thitima said investigators were now trying to find out if an attack was being organised or whether there was a suicide mission planned. The Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, is contacting the government of Iran to check if the Iranian men are on its terrorist watch list, she said. Police temporarily closed Klong Ton and Phra Khanong intersections so that bomb disposal experts could inspect the area and asked commuters to avoid using roads in the vicinity. No explosives were found in the black bag the injured man was carrying. One of the bombs damaged a telephone booth outside Kasempithaya School. A spokesman said no one at the school was hurt and that parents had been informed of the situation. Pupils were ordered to remain in their classrooms. Police said the man detained at Suvarnabhumi airport was trying to board an Air Asia flight o Malaysia. They said he arrived in Thailand on the same day as Mr Moradi. The names of the four other injured people are Sutatip Sajjadamrong, taxi driver Sanchai Boonsoongnoen, Apichart (surname not reported) and Kangwan Horprasattong. The link to the story also has photos. Thailand dodged a bullet this time around with no one killed. Hopefully the government will not continue to try and spin the story and take some concrete measures and action to deal with the threat - rather than blame other countries for attempting to ruin their tourism numbers with travel warnings.
  20. Hefe, at Calpyso, there is no minimum for tips, but certainly 40 - 100 Baht is a good amount. Remember the slip them your mobile trick, if you want to test if they are willing to go for p4p. Also remember, they will likely ask more than a bar girl will, if she does decide to do the p4p routine.
  21. Rukki, I do know the name of the lady on the left, her name is Lio, if you take a closer look, you will also see her in the 4th photo (topless - she's the 3rd one on the right - from the centre showgirl wearing the dress), also in the 5th photo in the middle, in the 7th photo wearing the bananas near the curtain, and in the last topless photo, 4th from the right. As you may deduce, I am impressed with her, but never tried the mobile number on the paper trick with her. Not sure she's still there, as the last time I've been to Calypso was a couple of years ago. DT, actually you've moved up to being a connoisseur!
  22. Sorry to report some bad news about Lyla. Someone was asking about her on LBQ forum and another BM reported seeing her in a parking lot near NEP. He wrote she was looking poorly, almost only skin and bones. Back in 2007, Beer was working at King's Corner. I didn't see her there during my latest check on New Year's Eve, so she may have moved to Voodoo, which is now a postop lb bar in NEP. Here's a photo of Beer from 2007 number 26.
  23. PDogg, you are right about their current location - the theatre in Asia Hotel is small, probably around 150 - 200 seats, a fraction of Tiffany Show or Alcazar. However they are moving to a new location in the Riverside. I am not sure how large the theatre is there. I've heard they will be moving sometime this February. In the meantime here are a few photos I have taken of Calypso in the past years. I have to apologize for a few as the audience interfered with some for exposure and of course some heads in the way.
  24. Panicos, you probably can find something in Tukcom, which is the smaller version of Pantip in Pattaya.
  25. Here's a nice story from The Nation. stage review Bangkok's 'Wonder Boys' More than 10 years have passed since I last caught the stage show "Calypso" at the Asia Hotel. On that last occasion, a Vietnamese gay friend - a dancer and choreographer - was in town and I remember to this day his comment as we left. "Oh, my god, I'm glad I'm not a woman," he said, much to my mirth. What he probably meant, though I admit I didn't check, was that as a woman, he'd be envious of the breathtaking beauty of the performers. Since then, whenever foreign friends and colleagues, theatre professors among them, have visited, I've been recommending "Calypso" as a must-see, along with the sadly now-defunct Joe Louis Theatre at Suan Lum Night Bazaar and/or "Siam Niramit". "Watch both and you'll better understand contemporary Bangkok, a city of contrasts," I tell them. I've only had good words back so far. So when two French VIPs were visiting earlier this month and tickets to "Si Phaendin: The Musical" were sold out for the night in question, I took them to the Asia Hotel for "Calypso". In a cabaret format, the show features many short scenes inspired by popular songs, movies or cultural stereotypes from countries around the world - to name a few, "All That Jazz", "Hot Honey Rag", "I Who Have Nothing", "The Chinese Ballad" and "Geisha". But it's not just "cover dance" - that fad so favoured by Thai teens. Most scenes have fun twists here and there that are either cheekily surprising or hilariously grotesque. There's also a nice contrast in moods and tones from one scene to the next, and that, coupled with quick scene changes and practical props, keeps the whole 75-minute show moving along at a fine pace. Inclusion of both the "unofficial" Korean national anthem "Arirang", which I remember loving last time I watched the show, and K-Pop anthem, the Wonder Girls' "Nobody" is also intriguing. The women, or should I say men, are beautiful, far more beautiful than many women, and their costumes are stunning. This is even more evident when audience members stay on after the show to take photos with them. But what's more important, and this is why the how has been running for so long, is that all the cast member know how to act, showing the meanings of the lyrics of the songs they lip-synch through their facial expressions and physical movements. And that may be why I fall in love with a few of them. Plus, even with two shows a night, 365 days a year, they still manage look fresh and enthusiastic. Of course, "Calypso Cabaret" is a tourist show, but it's one that locals can be both entertained by and proud of. Bangkok is not London, New York, or even Hong Kong, and usually there's no stage performance, which can be enjoyed by non-Thai speaking audiences every night, despite it being one of the top tourist destinations in the world. And that may be something performing artists here should think of from time to time. For now, I look forward to taking more foreign friends to "Calypso Cabaret" in the years to come and at their new riverside venue. And that's not just because my French guests enjoyed it so much that they treated me to a foie gras buffet the next day. Boys will be girls _ "Calypso Cabaret" is on nightly at the Asia Hotel, with direct access to BTS Ratchatewi station. Show times are 8.15 and 9.45. _ Tickets are Bt1,200 (Bt600 for children), with one drink. _ Book online at least three days in advance at www.CalypsoCabaret.com. _ Group discounts are available. Buy the Bt1,400 (Bt1,100 children) package and you get Brazilian churascaria cuisine at the Rio Grill Restaurant and the show. Having been to see the show a number of times, I would recommend it, especially if you have a special lb to take. It may be possible to "date" some of the showgirls, but not all of them are up for p4p. For Calypso you would need to be more discreet - as management is watching them during the photo sessions. You would have to pass your mobile number to them in the process of giving them a tip for the photo. If she is up for p4p, she'll give you a call later. At 24 years young, 'Calypso' is still one of the best stage shows in the city
