  1. Which famous writer sometimes used the pen name Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass?
  2. I guess they gotta say it that way, but when a plane goes missing at 32k feet, there is not much chance of anyone needing rescued.
  3. What was the name of the western movie about the James-Younger gang, in which real sets of brothers played the Younger, James, Miller, and Ford brothers, and who were those actor brothers?
  4. His birth name was William Henry McCarty.
  5. He was known as that too, but it wasn't his birth name according to most historians, but more like a first alias

After going to see Unbroken on Xmas, I have to say I considered it an excellent movie. I had an emotional feeling in one scene at the end where I wanted to stand up and start clapping, but instead just clapped softly to myself. The movie was about Louis Zamperini who was of Italian descent, but the role was played by Jack O'Connell who is Irish-English, though I thought he did a very believable job. I did not even think about that until someone else mentioned it afterward. Louis' mother did not even speak English, so he was like the 1st generation born in the US I guess. Actually none of the family spoke English until after they moved to Torrance CA from Olean NY. but Louis was only 2 when they moved. There were some details of the time leading up to his plane crashing into the Pacific that were left out, but it really did not detract from the general story line of the movie to me. The plane was a B-24 Liberator, which was a crap plane compared to the great B-17 Flying Fortress. Both left side engines on the B-24 quit working due to mechanical failure, and that led to the plane crashing into the ocean. The B-17 was known for being able to stay airborne and cover considerable distance with only one functioning engine. Based on some articles I've read anyway. The worst thing to me is that the prison guard who so severely abused Louis and numerous other prisoners, was never prosecuted. He was on MacArthur's most wanted list, but went into hiding until US occupation of Japan ended and prosecutions stopped. The worthless scum never apologized and was very wealthy when he died in the early 2000s.

    The GREAT

Liston was poorly managed and poorly trained. He and his handlers definitely underestimated Clay in the first fight. It came close to Clay quitting a round or two before Liston did. Liston had injured one shoulder and would have been basically fighting one handed had he continued. Clay had a cut over his eye, and Liston's trainer saw that and put astringent or similar on his gloves, The cut was burning like hell and he was ready to quit but his corner would not let him. That is from what I read many years ago about the fight, and apologies if my memory is off.

Les Habs from the 60s and 70s were my favorite hockey team, still are, but seldom watch hockey these days. Big Beliveau the announcers on tv used to call him. Remember him. and Jacques Laperrière, Yvan Cournoyer, JC Tremblay, Serge Savard, Henri Richard the pocket rocket, the Gumper, Rogatein Vachon, just off the top of my head.
  10. That is literally the funniest story I have read in a long time. I am literally LMAO over here. Good one.
  11. I have one of them in my house here in the US, thanks to the kindness of a forum member whom I am sure wishes to remain nameless. They are sure nice for doing a clean job, but the water here is a lot colder than in Thailand and it takes some getting use to. But that is okay, I am now though and love the feel of the cold water soaking my puckered bung hole. One thing that helped with BMs in Thailand was eating one Dragon Fruit a day. When I did that, the turds shot out like they were coated in axle grease and there was seldom any residue left for the hose to remove.

I was always a Sonny Liston fan. I will always believe their 2nd fight in Bangor Maine was rigged.

Last time I went to the cinema was xmas 2012 to see Django Unchained. Going again today xmas 2014 to see Unbroken. When I read the Jap nationalists want to permanently ban director Angelina Jolie from entering their country again, I knew I had to see it.
  14. Every time I watch this funny video it reminds me of Billy69, because he posted it one time on the old ATS forum.
  15. Like the old saying goes, the Allies may have won the war, but Japan and Germany have won the peace.
  16. The fucking Japs didn't give a damn about Chinese civilians or Filipino civilians, considering what they did in both countries. So they got a taste of the same.
  17. Ok, so maybe not Year of the Snake. Oops.
  18. So, you were born in the Year of the Snake. :) As FDR said, a day that will live in infamy.,,IMO, there was two days of infamy. On Dec 8, 1941, those Jap bastards invaded the Philippines which was a US territory at the time. Even if they had not attacked Pearl Harbor, the attack on the PI was all the reason we needed to declare war on those inhuman, brutal, godless heathens. No one in that war suffered any more than those brave men known as the Battling Bastards of Bataan. They fought their asses off against overwhelming odds until April 9, 1942, when their commander, Gen King, felt he had no choice but to surrender. Then the real suffering came with the Bataan Death March, and for those who survived that, over 3 years of captivity in terrible hellish conditions, where many more died. I don't feel one bit bad about the dropping of Fat Man and Little Boy, and considering what all the Japs did in the PI and in China for that matter, they deserved 10 more just like those two. I am sure you have read about the Rape of Nanking, and all that took place in the PI, and even now when I do it makes my blood boil. Not just because of the cruel vicious things the Japs did at the time, but of the continual denial of same even until today, by their govt and Jap Nationalists. Today, the movie Unbroken comes out, which is going to show factually some of what went on in Jap POW camps. Because the movie is directed by Angelina Jolie, there is some clamoring by Jap Nationalists that she should be banned from ever entering their country again. Fvck them. If I were her, I'd say you can take your denialist lies, shove them up your ass and set fire to them.
  19. What was Billy the Kid's real name, and it isn't what you may first think?
  20. That one is my favorite QT movie of all. It came out when I was in Pattaya, and I went to see it 4 times at Avenue Mall during it's run there of about 4-6 weeks. 3 times took a date, and once went alone. I saw Django on opening day, xmas 2012, but have not seen it again since, though I did like it a lot too. I am a big QT fan though. I read all the negative comments, arrogant, poor actor, yet puts himself in his own movies, I don't care. He also makes the best soundtracks for his movies, and when doing so often repopularizes an old song. The only directors I rank as better than QT are Sam Peckinpah and the Coen Bros. For making my kind of movies anyway.
  21. My 2nd favorite song by the old master. His best song for my money was The Stranger Song. Maybe because it was the opening theme for a wonderfully underrated western, McCabe and Mrs Miller. Some people say Cohen is the Canadian version of Bob Dylan but I like to think of it as the other way around.
