Whether it’s from watching the extravagant dancing beauties in a cabaret show or even from a personal encounter, a ladyboy has many different names and guises: katoey, transgender, transvestite or cross-dresser - someone who is so feminine on every level that it becomes almost impossible to differentiate a ladyboy from a real girl. Of course, we don’t mean the obviously masculine-looking ones but the really pretty ones; those who work for airlines, at cosmetic counters in upmarket shopping malls, as stars of cabaret shows or even television celebrities. 'Katoeys' are very well integrated into Thai life and no-one looks down on them... some girls are even a little envious of their perfect feminine figures and faces... In many cases, it reaches the point where anyone could be fooled. So how can you tell? How do you make sure that your pretty new girlfriend isn’t really... a dude!? Of course many girls in Thailand would tick some of the boxes below, but very few would actually tick them all! Too Tall: Generally Thai girls are not very tall, but almost all katoeys are taller than average, with heights of 180cm not being unusual. Too Feminine: Look at the way she uses make up, the way she walks and moves her arms or hands, especially over-enthusiastic hair flicking... no real girl would need to act this way at every moment, like she is walking on a constant catwalk. Overacts and Overreacts a lot: Way more than necessary, often loudly in a high-pitched, exaggerated voice. It gets even worse in a conflict. Certainly, don't ever pick a fight with a ladyboy - you can't be sure of the outcome! Too Large Breasts: This again is not an absolute rule but too big and often provocative is a good indicator. They often cheerfully invite you to check 'how real they feel'... it's more a question of appreciating their financial investment. No Bra! This is always interesting - In Thailand, no matter how small the breast and how open-minded a girl is, even in gogo bars, girls always wear a bra! If she doesn't, especially when combined with points 1 and 4, you are probably talking to a katoey. The Voice: In the majority of the cases, voices - even trained voices - are still what gives many katoeys away. The pitch might be higher than men's voices but it somehow sounds unnatural. Adam's Apple: This is a tricky one as Adam's Apples can be surgically removed, but if she has one, you can call her 'sir'. The Dress Code: Just like the overacting, the way a ladyboy dresses is usually a lot sexier than most girls. Add a generous amount of make up, feathers and glitter and you get a girl that has become so feminine and flamboyant that things start to get suspicious. The Elbows: One of the most unclear indicators, supposedly men's elbows are more square than a girl's. The Final Check: The ID card - no matter how feminine you are or if you use the ladies bathroom, even after a sex reassignment surgery, your ID will still show your real gender.

BANGKOK: -- After having received numerous complaints from members of the public, the National Police Office has decided to stop the practice of police setting up of mobile roadblocks to catch traffic violators. Police spokesman Pol Lt-Gen Prawut Thavornsiri said Thursday that the police order took immediate effect as of Thursday and would be applied throughout the country. From now on, he said that if a roadblock is to be set up, it has to be manned by a police inspector and there must be a clearly visible sign to show the existence of the roadblock. Also, their superiors must be informed about the whereabouts of the roadblocks and what kind of roadblocks they are. Pol Lt-Gen Prawut told members of the public who happen to come across a mobile roadblock to take pictures or to VDO record it and have it sent to the police spokesman’s office or to dial 1197 to lodge a complaint. That bar was called Cat's Place and was perhaps an 8 minute walk or so from Minou's old location. Cat's Place was situated behind Tukcom and remnants of its signage still exist today. The unit has remained empty and unoccupied since it closed quite a few years ago, as far as I can tell. It was alright in there. I too very much like the relaxed seating and the overall laid-back style of Sunee's outdoor areas. I personally think Sunee could do with a very girly-femboy-type bar in which the boys look oh-so-girly as they learn their feminine craft. It seems there are a few of that silicon-free type scattered around the area, so if they were corralled into one convenient ladyboy-schooling bar then it would be rather nice and may draw more femboys to indulge. Perhaps it could be called 'Bus Station', as that's where they'd arrive nice & fresh from the Issan factory.

Shocking, That the price these women have to pay for being themselves is to run the risk of being alienated, brutalised & murdered. What courage they must have. Its a hell of a price to pay for the ignorance & intolerance of others. The fact that they are still prepared to risk all shows that it is by no means a "lifestyle choice" rather that they have no choice. Apologies for lack of updates over the past few weeks. LBWVB 2015 is 'Sold Out'. In fact it is oversold so some renegotiation was required with the Hotel. All is in order and the event is on Target to raise 750,000 Baht between the 3 nominated Orphanages. People may still make donations but there are no more tickets available. As before all expenses (Hotel, Printing and Prize money) have been restricted to 15% of overall income. All expenses are more than covered by Tickets - both direct Ticket sales and Sponsors attending. Nobody is subsidizing a party. Proceeds go to Charity. There are 5 teams confirmed for the event. Blue Dolphins, Pink Panthers, Purple People Eaters, Red Dragons, Yellow Canaries. Stringfellows will sadly not be participating. This also means that all teams will 'play off' in a 'round robin' tournament of 10 Matches of 5 Rounds. After the amazing impact of Check In bar, last year, all teams will have Cheerleader squads to add to the carnival atmosphere. Many thanks to all the supporters for this year. Hopefully we can report back, as in previous years, on how the money was used, by each orphanage, in January. The event contributes, in percentage terms, more than most Charity fund raisers because people give their time and donations willingly. Karn & a whole host of other 'usual suspects' started at Minou, it was the breeding ground for a whole multitude of todays well known ladyboys. And I recollect a couple of other LB bars too, being in the vicinity over the years, but none of them really seemed to work & you couldn't always guarantee that you'd find any of them open, even if you did make the effort to hoof it over to that end of town. I think that the problem is simply that Sunee is just far too well known as a gay area, especially for those of us who are at the lesser pink end of our coulourful spectrum. I know that I always used to feel really uncomfortable wandering around there until I met PDogg & some of the others amongst our crowd... Especially, when I used to get these horrible little, gangsta, gay boys, cat calling to me up the road, asking if I want my bum fucked, it really used to make me want to dive for cover! So there it is... Sunee's just got way too much of a stigma attached to it for most of the LB loving community who like to think that they're getting stuck into chicks with dicks, rather than young lads in frocks.
