Theft Prevention

Common sense says don't tempt your guests by leaving valuables unsecured in your room.

What precautions do you take to avoid theft or otherwise unpleasant encounters?

PHUKET: A Thai ladyboy was arrested early yesterday morning, after stealing money from a Singaporean tourist in Patong.

Ng Wei Kiat, 31, met Tanakorn Jaiban, 25, on Bangla Road about 3am.

“Mr Ng was reportedly interested in Ms Tanakorn, and they both went to have some fun in a hotel room on Phra Metta Road,” said Lt Col Weerapong Rakito of the Patong Police.

“Later, in the room, Mr Ng found that he was missing 402 Singaporean Dollars. Mr Ng asked Ms Tanakorn if she had taken the money, but she denied having any knowledge of the money all at,” Lt Col Weerapong said.

“Ms Tanakorn and Mr Ng continued to argue over the missing amount, until hotel staff called the police in.”

The two were taken to Patong Police station for questioning.

“Ms Tanakorn kept denying stealing the money,” Col Weerapong said. “So, we decided to search them both.”

“It was at that point that Ms Tanakorn excused herself to go to the toilet. She was acting suspiciously, like she was trying to get something out of her underwear. A police officer told her to stop, but she quickly ran into the toilet and locked the door,” he added.

Police then broke down the door and found Ms Tanakorn holding 402 Singapore Dollars in cash in her hand.

Ms Tanakorn was charged with theft

Weird how they used Ms. and Mr. as the title for the lb. Back to the subject - a lot of people who go on holiday don't think they will be victims of crime, which results in lack of taking precautions.

As you posted, it's quite easy to keep valuables out if sight - and not keeping more money on your person than you intend to spend for that day is also a good precaution. Some board members have written about keeping their cash in their sock, and only a small amount in their wallet/pockets.

A bit of planning will help prevent being a victim of crimes as reported above.

usually these kind of things happen late at night..so i guess alchool is involved.
