Came across this article today about trafficed Laotian sex workers in Thailand.

 

The article states that the majority of sex workers in Thailand are from neighboring countries.

 

Pattaya sex workers seem to be at least 90% Thai so this would suggest a huge P4P scene with Thais paying.

 

Maybe Thai ladies are embarrased to have Thai customers?

 

Maybe Thai ladies hope to find husbands in Pattaya?

 

Maybe Thais won't prostitute themselves for 200 baht?

 

Or maybe Thais like to make believe all the bad apples are foreigners?

 

 

Laotian Women Rescued From Thai 'Karaoke' Brothels

NAKHON PATHOM — Police say they have rescued 23 young Thai and Laotian women who were allegedly being helped captive in a karaoke shop in central Nakhon Pathom where they were forced into prostitution.

 

Anti-human trafficking police organized the raid following a tip off from an NGO worker who received a text message from one of the women seeking help. Sixteen of the victims are under the age of 18, police say.

 

One of the victims told police she came to Nakhon Pathom several months ago after a Thai dealer offered her a job at Nong Fuse karaoke bar, where she was told she would earn more money than she did in Laos.

However, the woman said that she has been forced to sleep with customers and is only earning around 200 baht of the 1,000 baht each client is charged.

 

According to police, no arrests have been made yet as the karaoke bar’s owners appear to have fled the premises before the raid.

 

The victims are now staying at a state-run shelter home for mental and physical recovery, a police officer said.

 

On the same day, police also raided a brothel in Udon Thani and rescued four Laotian women, thanks to a tip off from another NGO organisation. A woman has been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and running a prostitution ring. 

 

Thailand is a major source, transit, and destination for sex trafficking. The majority of sex workers in Thailand are foreigners from neighboring countries and more than two thirds of them are under the age of 18.

I have assumed for years that the major p4p economy is probably based in towns near highways close to border areas to service truckers esp from China. The fact that they are majority foreigners makes sense when you consider that proximity as well as the difficulty for a poor, uneducated alien finding any employment, esp in an ethnocentric culture like Thailand. The sales pitch from the pimps must sound attractive to the girls' families.

Just curious who is paying 1000 baht to sleep with a Laotian in Nakhon Pathom, certainly not Thai people.

Hefe seems to be close from what i recall

 

There was a long Documentary on this subject around 10-12 years ago and it blamed Thai men in towns and villages who dont like to wear a condom and where they go to relieve themselves on 13 and 14 year old girls,,many from abroad , Many of the girls had HIV when tested and were from Burma from memory or whatever its called now in this film anyway.  pretty sad if i recall.

 

These brothels are a plenty thats for sure if you believe what was shown in the Film.
