bumblebee Posted February 12, 2014 Share Posted February 12, 2014 I found myself in Bangkok this morning, so I though why not take advantage of the situation and check out what this shutdown is all about. Snick has been doing a fine job of reporting from the ground, so I thought some of you may interested in seeing how things are just now. I started off around Silom/Sala Daeng and made my way up towards Petchaburi Road and then down towards MBK. Basically certain parts of the city centre are blocked off, with access limited. The guys manning the road blocks appear to be a tad tougher than the actual protesters, the facial features of guys from the south. Snick Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 Its fun ain't it ? , I'll be out again this weekend. If it looks a little empty, thats because its daytime. In the evening its a lot more crowded (but less than a few weeks ago), with speeches, concerts, even stand up comedy ! From Lumpini I heading up Ratchadamri Road, most of which had normal traffic, towards Central World, a walk of about 15 mins or so. Again this is a major protest area, blocked off and with a huge stage which I think may in fact be the main stage, with the skytrain as a backdrop. It was really bizarre to see people camping in the middle of the street, it's like central Bangkok has been turned into a village. This is the area from Central World to Siam skytrain station.
