Starting June 17th, Xanax will be banned in Thailand.

Earlier today, the Public Health Ministry issued a decree suspending the sale of Alprazolam, the generic name for Xanax, within Thailand. The Ministry claims that the stress relief medication has been used as a date rape drug, contributing to a growing number of sex crimes.

In a related statement, Food and Drug Administration secretary-general Dr. Boonchai Somboonsuk said that Alprazolam was frequently mixed with krathom in the chemical cocktail known as “4×100.”

Never used it as a date rape drug, but Xanax sure does come in handy when you need a good nights sleep;  take one and you are out for 12 hours, with some really funky dreams.

300 baht for a strip of ten....and the pharmacist always looked like he was doing something shady, which, apparently, he was! Some ladyboys I knew in BKK used to take it for the buzz; apparently if you take 3 or 4 and mix it with beer it has the opposite effect and gives you a wired, high feeling.
