SiamSam
I thought we could start a little thread naming a recording artist and having others guess what their hit record was. No cheating or using google please. I will start it off. MARCIE BLANE What was her hit record? Hint: She likes Pigdogg Quote Link to comment
bumblebee
Interesting idea for a thread SS. Have heard the name but cannot connect her to a song. :) Skeeter Davis anyone? A song perhaps sung in the departure lounge of Swampy Airport. Quote Link to comment
pdogg
MARCIE BLANE What was her hit record? That would be Bobby's Girl. Obscure song but on Karl's computer at Famous, always good to hear when surrounded by ladyboys. Skeeter Davis at Swampy? So Sad To Be Leaving You? I know that's not the song, but figure it's along those lines. I used to fly China Air quite a bit and after landing just about when hitting the gate a song would come on which I now associate with my arrival to Thailand since that's when it was played. The tune is by DUSTY SPRINGFIELD. Quote Link to comment
bumblebee
Could the Dusty Springfield song be "Goin Back" ? Great tune when returning somewhere. Quote Link to comment
pdogg
Could the Dusty Springfield song be "Goin Back" ? Great tune when returning somewhere. That would sure be appropriate an indeed a tune performed by Dusty! The song China Air played is I Only Want To Be With You, one of her big hits. An upbeat tune which would give me an uplifting feeling after 24 hours of travel. :mp3: Memories of Don Muang. Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Yes "Bobby's Girl" for Marci Blane!! How about Sue Thompson? Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Skeeter Davis "The End of the World" was one of her most memorable hits but I am not sure if it was her biggest. Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Dusty Springfield's "Wishin & Hopin" was one of my favorites but I think she was quite prolific and had many hits. Quote Link to comment

That's the one I had in mind SS. I can just image some poor guys in Swampy departures humming that as the lady who escorted them to the airport, picked up another guy in arrivals. Also the way some guys report, it seems leavening Los to head home is the end of the world for them till next time. :) Quote Link to comment
Luung
Skeeter Davis "The End of the World" was one of her most memorable hits but I am not sure if it was her biggest. I'm pretty sure "End of the world" was her greatest hit, I got the Marcie Blaine one too & if I'm correct (?) Sue Thompson's would be sad movies?.. Dunno, I'm a Limmie. Has I just said I'm from the other side of the pond so I'll 'toss' one one of ours out there, same mame sake: Linda Thompson... No Google, Youtube, Encyclopidia Britanica or Karl's computer allowed... Quote Link to comment
DownLoLarry
How about Sue Thompson? Stumped. Even after googling her, I can't recall her. Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Sue Thompson's big hit in 1961 was NORMAN. Anyone remember Little Eva? Quote Link to comment

SiamSam
You must be in your forties. :) Quote Link to comment
Luung
You must be in your forties. :) Turned 50 two Saturdays ago... sorry pop's... Or am I pop's, dunno? Aging Spunk Rockers, whatever next... I actually piddled on Sid Vicious's boots in a nightclub urinal in 1977. At the time it was one of the proudest moments of my wretched life! Anyone get the Linda Thompson number? Going back to the Pistols, loved Sid Vicious's version of "Something Else" Anyone remember who had the original? Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
No one got the "Sue" Thompson number. Her song was NORMAN from 1961. Probably a wee bit before your time young fellow. Earlier I ask if anyone knew Tommy Roe's hit. Here again probably not your vintage. Quote Link to comment
Luung
No idea. Going back to the Pistols, loved Sid Vicious's version of "Something Else" Anyone remember who had the original? Eddie cochran (Probably spelt wrong)?.. Do you remeber the video with him in his underpants?.. I actually saw the Pistols at the Roxy in 1977... and I once pulled the original bassist Glen Matlock's bird at a night club called Billy's in Soho in 1978. I'll give you some clues regarding Linda Thompson. She was married to Richard Thompson & they were both members of 'Fairport Convention' back in the late 60's & early 70's. They were Britain's premier folk/rock band. She had several hits & they were well known at the time. Cmon, her & Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span)were the two most famous female folk singers in the UK at the time. Sorry Sam, completly lost on your question Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Tommy Roe's hit was SHEILA. My favorite Eddie Cochran hit was SUMMERTIME BLUES. Don't know Linda Thompson. Quote Link to comment
