2. Maud-the daughter of the BIG lebowski to the dude...in the film the big lebowski ....of course I think the next line is "Johnson?!"
3. Since this thread has been running its brought back loads of memories for me,and my love of music. I was always a bit different than my mates tho'....most of them were into tamla motown and soul music, and while I could listen to it,it never floated my boat.... About the age of 16 I left home for the 1st time ,and moved in with some hippies in an "ARTS LAB"-55555 -God bless 'em,they introduced me to The doors,Love,Velvet Underground,Spirit ,and bands I would never have heard on the radio in Mcr(well, maybe the doors)-as well as the music, they introduced me to cannabis and lsd, lightshows and live bands. Associated with this a"arts lab" was a woman who had the catering contract for The Liverpool stadium(long since demolished)and every month we would go there when there were bands on,usually 3 or 4 per night. The promoter was an young jewish guy,now world famous(cannot for the life of me remeber his name),and he cut his teeth at the Liverpool Stadium. I seen so many bands there,I cannot remeber them all....I was making sandwiches at the back of the stadium, but in full view of the stage, only about 30 yrds away....most of the bands never made the big time, but a few who did were....Hawkwind,Atomic Rooster,Mott the Hoople There were also plenty who recorded the odd single and were well known in the UK...Blodwyn Pigg,The Edgar Broughton band (the only band i ever knew who released a cover of a Beefheart song)The Keef Hartleyband,Quintessence,Juicy Lucy,Stone the crows(quite well known),Taste,Tir na nog..... Any of them ring a bell lUNG?
4. yeah the darts...I loved 'em......here's my favourite darts song, especially for the FM's from the Big Apple Pete Shelley's dad?nice bloke...he came to drive a lorry for the firm I worked for in '78(?).He used to work in the pits, and when they closed he took the money ..he wasn't a muso, just a working bloke. The buzzcocks were just taking off then,so we'd always hope Pete would come in to see his da,but he never did. I did meet Mick Hucknall(simply Red) once in a small club in MCR,gave him a load of abuse for having ginger dreadlocks, I was pissed ...he hadn't hit the big time then, and I didnt know who he was, just that he looked like a twat. I checked out the amelie tracks you uploaded Lung,it brought back this song, stuck in one forgotton part of my brain,a haunting tune called nine by nine-johm Dummer blues band, tho' its more jazz than blues...
5. lock stock and 2 smokin' barrels
6. All the "red tops" have naked pics...only gg'd tho'PD...the quality papers don't Conrad Black used to own the telegraph-remember that crook? I saw those aborigine ladyboys one day when i hiked up to naklua...i had my str8 mate with me so I couldn't make contact...maybe next time....
7. great find PD- jeez-i never knew you read the Telegraph...i'd have thought you were more of a Guardian man....
8. just looked up the squrrel nut zippers.....love'em lefty...i'll have a look for your other reccomends also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Yfc479Eo8&feature=player_detailpage
9. yes Paul,eminently readable,good on yer mate.
10. vito corleone/marlon brando in the godfather.... jim garrison/kevin costner in JFK
11. nice one PD-gotta admit ,never heard orgasm addict before...or if i did it was burnt out of my brain with alcohol, acid ,mandies and weed in the 70's.....shame on me..I actually worked with Pete Shelley's dad!-doh!
12. its very hit and miss with me also Lung-the last 2 Ive done sucessfully......try deleting the first(media)http:// that works for me ....sometimes....also put it on "use full editor straight away...try that....if all else fails....load it as it is....we can acess the vid by clicking on it....no big deal BTW-that version of hey joe is good-at least you can tell every word said ,unlike Hendrix's mumbles
13. Here's another obscure American band-this song was recorded in'71...it still sounds great an ahead of its time...from Chicago I think were Spirit another not too obscure act-Dr John and the night trippers...are you familiar with him Lung?
14. I never know what to do with my own life,so I can't advise anyone else....but AB,does she know about your LB fetish...?If not,are you prepared to give that up for her?
15. Thanx hefe for those posts...never heard of Fred...what a great voice,i prefer that version to the TimBuckley version....also,I always assumed Nillsson wrote "everybod's talking"...big respect to Fred for that classic... Yeah,I was also gonna use LOVE as an obscure band,I had the "alone again ,or" album many moons ago,and there was another american band around the same time-ill see if i can find anything by them also....
16. I liked the house of stone lung....the explorers do sound just like roxy music unsurprisingly....the roger chapman never loaded..but I remember Family...i had an album of theirs...cant remember the name now..yeah,obscure,I think thats subjective...some people would say Frank Zappa is obscure (even tho' he recorded 60+ albums),just because lots of people have never heard his stuff....anyway...I like all sorts myself, some more than others...I'm glad you weren't a fan of ska /reggae Lung....some acts I particularly disliked...i would even now, hunt down and kill UB40 .....Here's a guaranteed obscure group(unless you're german that is)..they were top of the charts in the 90's in Deutschland....a trio of mixed race girl rappers from the ruhr....this song is called "piss off" and their other big hit was "I think youre shit"....I cant imagine they'd be played on the radio in the uk or usa,but in Germany, anything goes... BTW Lung-check out the other rubberbandits songs..."I wanna fight your father" and "bag of glue" well worth hearing ...
17. thanx a bunch for starting this....ive always been interested in mind -expanding drugs...I remember reading a similar article to the one you read, about ayahuasca...in it the author who had taken the drug describes his metamorphosis into a tree...I thought at the time"I wanna try that!" Ive never had the opportunity, and to be honest ,now,I don't think I have the courage to risk my mental health on hallucinogens...I took LSD in my youth, and Ive been to some scary places in my head on that...so anything as hardcore as ayahuasca I'll leave for others., I look forward to your next post as much as the extortion thread....
18. Thanx guys for broadening my musical knowledge...I can't believe i never knew the lurkers or the partizans...mind you ,I was in an achoholic haze in the 70's...so its a wonder I can remember anything....I like devo also...ive heard them before, but not a lot...reminiscent of talking heads....i liked the valerie song....a little catchy pop is ok... Maybe the smiths, joy division etc are not obscure to us brits lung, but I was amazed last month when a muso New Yorker(not PD) told me he had never heard of The Smiths...or Ian Dury! Some sounds just did not travel across the big pond, and vice versa....there must be dozens of bands in the US ,good bands ,ive never heard of..so here's the place to spread the word.... Finally...i wanna dedicate this song to PD-I was mightily impressed he knew all about the specials although I was never a ska or reggae fan...I love the sound of this ....a song written after the riots in the uk-summer of 81 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=1WhhSBgd3KI
19. OK-the late great IanCurtis and Joy Division.....I could have added the buzzcocks for that punk sound,or John cooper -clark for his punk poetry aslo......are u familiar with JCC ,lung? I think he lives down in Aldershot now,of all places.....
20. The one and only stone roses....Manchester's answer to the Byrds.......the video is crap but the sound is great Thanx Larry- i have to delete the first "medis and http" then it works(occasionally)
21. I cant seem to upload any now-its so hit and miss...is there a tutorial on here on how t?o do it every time....
22. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKyQomRtF7E&feature=player_detailpage yeah lung-4 great choices there...i'h heard of taj mahal, but can't recollect any of their sound before...seeing that you've uploaded lots of punk from London,i'll have to add a few from ooop north... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMQbzLrvwlE&feature=player_detailpage
23. I thought BB might have uploaded this....no-one has heard of the rubber bandits yet....youve not seen anything like this...or have you?
