  1. What happened in 1972 which started the unprecedented rise in the US prison population? The "war on drugs", of course! How's that working out for ya'?
  2. THis is how we do it in north Florida; going for a sunday drive on the beach! AFTER the football is over, of course. Looks windy and cold but it was actually just cloudy out, probably 78 degrees. Thinking of doing the same thing today, why not?
  3. The bottom line is that even the Republicans are saying this is over. Darrell Issa {R-CA} is the head of that committee, he's been trying to dig up something for 2 years now, to no avail. One of his sidekicks on that committee is a hardcore Republican TEA party member, Trey Gowdy from South Carolina ....of all places, a state which still proudly flies the confederate, racist flag of that loser ''southern army'' on their statehouse grounds ..... says let's pack it in also. Because there is nothing there. Now this guy, another {R} from Arizona, a senator from Arizona. He says on Meet the Press yesterday; ''Appearing on Meet the Press Sunday morning, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told NBC’s Chuck Todd that his GOP colleagues need to move on from the Benghazi issue'' and ''that while he had been skeptical about how Susan Rice and the Obama Administration portrayed the attack at first — which the report concluded there were, in fact, issues with those talking points — he acknowledged that Republicans should move beyond it.'' http://www.mediaite.com/tv/gop-sen-republicans-should-move-beyond-benghazi-after-new-report/ OK, so if we all agree Susan Rice was trotted out there by the W.H. with inaccurate talking points to placate the masses.....only about the millionth time THAT'S been done in the past 50 years or so, by both parties....can we finally see this non-story go away? I mean, even the Republicans say it's over, and they more than anyone would love to keep throwing gasoline on this fire.
  4. Total guess but I will say French Foreign Legion?
  5. I voted for Obama - twice- and even I am not happy with his job performance. But it has zero to do with non stories like this or some BS birth certificate nonsense, or he's a secret Muslim or some emails which show he supposedly sent the IRS after TEA party groups, etc......all the things which the extreme nutters on the far right and the Alex Jones wannabes love to point out. No, for me my main complaint is that he hasn't been liberal ENOUGH! Hasn't held his ground against the flotsam and jetsam of Republican obstructionists from worthless red states sent to DC to battle with him literally every day. And he hasn't kept a lot of his campaign promises - from 2008! As I said, more liberal and less for Wall street and big corporations would make this guy more appealing to me. But you know RX, it's likely there are really only 2 or 3 conservatives who read here and I don't blame them for not wanting to get into the political stuff on a website in which 90% of the posters are likely very liberal. Same as with the conspiracy stuff, I love to debate politics and current events anytime and anywhere but this doesn't seem to be the place to do it which is fine. Anyway, this was a non story all along, we all knew that in 2012. When Darrell Issa and company throw in the towel you know it's finally over. Thank goodness.
  6. Finally, jeeeeesh WASHINGTON (AP) — ''A two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees.'' “no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria.” http://bigstory.ap.org/article/ecc3a300383445d5a90dd6ca764c9e15/house-intel-panel-debunks-many-benghazi-theories But, of course, FOX was not happy with THAT! No more wall-to-wall coverage of a non-story now, but they did give it 30 seconds; ''Chief White House correspondent Ed Henry, on Special Report Friday evening, spent just under 30 seconds discussing the report and the aspects he chose to highlight speak volumes.'' http://www.mediaite.com/tv/how-fox-news-dismissed-todays-benghazi-report-in-less-than-30-seconds/
  7. Here's another one from last night's game; How many stories on the Empire State building?

    Band Names

Didn't see that question, TC; I knew that one for sure, Iommi is one of my heroes. He lost the 2 tips in an accident in a factory on his last day of work........considered quitting or switching hands but instead fashioned himself a couple thimbles with which to grind down on the strings harder than usual, creating that awesome wall of sound he became famous for. Sabbath is easily my all-time favorite metal band, saw 'em in '78 on the Never Say Die tour and again in '99 when they resurfaced with all 4 original guys for a tour, excellent both times. The thimbles are pushing down hard on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsLkL8DTHeg
  9. ooooops. the guys I was talking to last night after the quiz said it went from JAX to SD Personally I've never been on it.
  10. This one may be a bit obscure and actually would fit better in the Band thread......I actually got it, but not before writing "Supersonic" and crossing it out and changing it in time.
  11. Here's one from the Name That Tune category, they played the song but it's probably not necessary since most of have surely heard it; which band did "Closing Time" from the early 90's? Hint; one-hit wonders.
  12. Yeah, when the quizmaster announced that one I was pissed!! Hell, I've probably been on I-90 200 times or more in my life.
  13. I think that's the 90, Hefe; it runs along the far north of the country but because I never took it past the Buffalo area I figured it just ended there; dumb. The 80 is the next major one down, I was on that a lot last fall when I drove cross-country from Denver to Boston. I also remembered the 70 from when I drove across country many moons ago, that one runs through Missouri and Kansas, etc.....
  14. Hefe got 2 and PD got one I put 95 and 5 and they were both wrong.......I did get three right. 10, 40, 70, 80 and 90 were the proper answers. Can't believe I didn't get 90 It runs all the way from Boston to Seattle. For some weird reason I figured it ended at Buffalo probably because I've never been past there. I did get 40, 70 and 80, been on those three roads and they are loooooong......route 10 goes all the way from Jacksonville FL to SanDiego, ends at Ocean pier.
  15. John Jay indeed.......and actually, I would have had ZERO chance in that once, except for the fact that I remembered there was a John Jay Law school in NYC. In actuality I gave TOO much clue.......looking over my scribbled notes from last night what the quizmaster threw out there for his clue was simply "Both his first and last names started with the same initial".....so I was going through every founding father in my head trying to come up with something. Here's 2 more from last night; What is the 4-letter word for the steering wheel on a boat? And.....3 points for each correct answer......name the 5 longest interstates in the USA
  16. And, for you B-ball fans......PD and Thaibound will get this one quickly if no one else grabs it......what number did both Julius Erving and Bill Russell go into the Basketball Hall of Fame with?
  17. Just came back from Quiz night in north Florida and ran into this doozy; Who was the very first supreme court justice of the USA? The quizmaster gave this hint; his initials were J.J.
  18. America's Smartest Cities {from Forbes} http://www.forbes.com/sites/joelkotkin/2014/11/17/americas-smartest-cities/ No. 1: Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH Share Of Population That Is College-Educated, 2013: 44.8% Increase In Share Since 2000: 7.8 percentage points Increase In College-Educated Population Since 2000: 32.2%
  19. What a sexy babe, seriously one of my favorites ever, probably been with her 15 or 20 times and hung out another 20.....always had a Thai boy in the background though, for a long time the bouncer in her own go-go bar! How on earth could he just watch as she went out night after night with different men.......shows how much getting a free ride [and great sex] from a cash-producing LB can overcome jealousy any day.

    Band Names

I'd highly recommend his Bio as well......one of the better rock-star bio's I have ever read, he's just an ordinary fellow from the slums who made it as a rocker......even when he started having some cash he'd just hang out at the pub with the locals, never put on airs. Sabbath was named "Best Metal Band" ever in a recent poll of about 250 rockers, no real surprise there, they influenced a whole generation or 2 of bands.
  21. Cheers, PD....my first instinct went to Africa but Madagascar wasn't nearly long enough and Equatorial Guinea, while closer, had too many vowels!
  22. Had to put it down on paper and it took a few minutes, but I think I have it; United Arab Emirates?
  23. Or even Lyla!! Still to this day one of the best sex partners I have ever had, holy hell.... You have GOT to see Inception! Yes, it's science-fiction or whatever they call ''impossible nonsense'' these days, but it's pretty good! Leonardo played a good role and that little Ellen Page is easy on the eyes [shame she doesn't like boys]. But then again I may have just liked it because of the Cali prime bud I was hitting It really is quite trippy I've seen Independence Day at least 20 times......bear in mind I have 2 kids and when that was released in DVD in 1997 they played it on a constant loop in the family VCR. Lyla in her prime below, just 'cause you mentioned her
