Would have thoughts google maps shoud be fine as long as GPS is active.

Other products would require the downloading of a thailand map i would assume.... i.e navigon.

The Rossco/Streetwalker app might be useful if there was such a thing. Are you going to be in town for Party Season also Eroticadventurer?

Finally got the courage up and splashed out on the SG3 at the weekend. Pretty impressed but a bit pissed that the controls on the headphone supplied cannot operate the FM Radio out of the box. Hopefully I can put it too good use keeping those who are not in town up to date on what is happening as it happens during Party Season and beyond. :pic:

You made the right choice. Technology is moving so fast & none move faster than Samsung. At least you will be on the cutting edge for a few months.

Yea a few months is all it takes for this stuff to move on. I just said to my brother earlier today that this phone will look really low spec in 5 to 10 years from now if not sooner.

I remember a guy showing me a digital camera in 1999 and he told me this costs £1000 and is the latest technology in cameras. At the time i though who would be stupid enough to spend such money on this "new" digital technology.

A few years later another friend had a small digital camera and said this is the future, that most people will have these in years to come but that the best way to view the photos would be on a computer, which we will carry when we travel.

Regarding the second incident I was skeptical to say the least that I would ever be someone who lugged a computer half way across the world to view my holiday snaps as I took them. Well I just got a new laptop last month and I have a new Panasonic camera waiting for me in Patts. I hope they both get on well together when they meet up in a few weeks. :geek:

Nerd that I am, you know I'd be weighing in on this, right? :geek:

With the exchange rate, Los is not the bargain destination it used to be as we all well know.

I've found over the last three years that when it comes to leading edge electronics -- I can almost always get it cheaper in the States than anywhere in SE Asia (assuming that I can find said leading-edge tech in the first place). Even with the VAT refund in Thailand, things I want are still cheaper back home, or average out to about the same (my laptop fell into the latter category).

Case in point: I was going to buy a Canon 5D-III here or Thailand; as expected, the real deal unused is cheaper in Thailand, but I can get it cheaper still in the U.S., even with a VAT refund. Hell, for the price of the Mark II in Thailand, I can buy the Mark III (with kit lens, even) in the U.S. Would have liked to have had that camera in time for the volleyball competition, but at that price difference, I have to wait.

On the other hand, if you want serviceable cheap Chinese knockoffs, SE Asia is the place. I got one of those S3 knockoffs (the HDC Galaxy SIII, don't you know) in Tukcom last week, and it works really well. Granted, the image sensor can't compare with the genuine article (I tested it with a friend's S3; not even close), but still takes reasonably good images (for a phone) if you tinker with the settings. The rest of the phone works great; came unlocked and I rooted it with no problems. All for 5,500 baht. I ended up giving it to a friend, but that's another story.

Incidentally, my Chinese knock-off Android tablet is still ticking along, six months later ...

A new phone, a new camera & a new laptop! Blimey! Obviously there's no recession in your corner of Ireland... :drinks:

Lol got more work the last 2 months than I had expected so decided to update my gadgets while I had the cash. The laptop is noting too high spec but much better than my old noisy fan one. I look on the GS3 as more a mini computer that happens to have a phone attached along with a lot of other features..

Wise move BB. Everyone needs a laptop that won't let them down. And your new Samsung will also take half decent pictures while you are out & about. In case you ever forget your new Panasonic.

It will also take IN-decent pictures, something a few around here will appreciate even more... :hi:

Ah I forgot to mention I am a married man these days so the baby oil photos are on hold for the time being, and besides I was always more tasteful erotic that in your face porn lol.

Will still have the old Panny with me also, so well armed like all the best gunfighters when then enter Dodge. Pity I'll miss the volleyball by a few days, but still plenty of events to cover, love it! :pic:

  • 2 weeks later...

It is the same on a PC but there is a time limit. If I switch it off & turn it back on hours later, I am still logged in.

When I shut down at night, the next morning, I am not logged in. It appears to log me out after 4 or 5 hours.

I don't know if that is the same in Ireland, I will see what others say.
