I have lived in Dubai for a while and like any race there are good ones and bad ones. My personal experience in Dubai was mostly good as long as I wasn't dealing with some spoiled brat. Now in Pattaya -- they're mostly pretty shitty but so is just about everyone else (who isn't into ladyboys). So, I think if you were to take a sample of farangs from Pattaya and make stereotypes about all of us from it, it wouldn't be particularly positive either. Which is to say there is adverse selection in Pattaya.

My personal, limited experience has been that they're less professional / businesslike than their Thai cousins in Bangkok and Pattaya. I'd go so far as to say even the Lao lbs working in Pattaya are a bit more laid back and fun than their Thai counterparts. So many of lbs I've met in Bangkok and to a lesser degree Pattaya are a bit jaded and looking for all the angles to squeeze as much baht as possible from a punter. In Laos, they seem to be more happy go lucky. It's sort of like Thailand 10-20 years ago.

I was there last month. Laos is in the slow lane when it comes to change. So I don't think it's changed that much.

Thought I would throw a up some info on Vientiane - this is not so much a trip report as I was there with my gf but more useful info for would be travelers. I'll try to throw up some pics at when I have time. First off, there are a lot of ladyboys in Vientiane -- caveat emptor, my take on the number of ladyboys may be higher than for most as all my gfs friends are ladyboys. Most I met are not the hardened types you see Pattaya or Bangkok. Moreover, Vientiane is a pretty sedate city that's more town than city. I liked it because it was a nice respite from the go go pace of Bangkok and to a lesser extent Pattaya. You want to stay in the city center which is the area around Wat Mixay. A lot of budget to mid range accomodations. Should not be too hard to find a decent deal. Like much of Thailand, you can find ladyboys everywhere but for more sordid activity you can hit the following night spots: Bor Pen Nyang, a nice roof-top bar right on the river at the city center. This is the early night spot, decent food also. Talent starts to pick up around 10 PM. Sam Lo Pub is the after hours bar most of the girls migrate to at midnight or so. This place is in walking distance to Bar Pen Nyang, so no need for a moto. It's on the second major street after the street on the Mekong. All you have to do is follow the ladyboys streaming from the Bor Pen Nyang. Or better yet, just ask one, most will be more than happy to escort you there. I like the Sam Lo pub because it is dark and cosy, and get pretty packed. This can lead to a good time on a good night. Also, the ladyboy per capita skyrockets at this place. An alternate late night spot is night club at the top of the Don Chan Palace (hotel). This is a biggish club with a DJ, a lot of the girls like to go here to dance and have fun. Though, I'll say if you don't like loud blaring club music and are not ready to be a little more forward, this place might not be for you. Though a good place to go with a date as most of the girls I met there like it. Prices are generally more negotiable here than in Thailand. Everything is cheaper, so this is a pretty good place for a budget trip / visa run Also, a lot of good western food here because of the French colonial history.

I think there is a huge scene actually. It's just more under cover because it's a socially conservative country.

So I went to Istanbul last year for a trip and decided to explore the local scene. I thought I would pass on the info for those who might be interested. I didn't know if this should go in Asia or Europe, so I put it here. I think it is a beautiful fun city and there are a lot of shemales there but I wouldn't recommend it for a mongering trip as its expensive compared to Thailand and not as much variety. But if you end up in the city on business or a lay-over, there is some fun to be had. I didn't take anyone as I was there free for only one night but I think the going rate is about 100 Lira or about 50 euro for short time. It may be more if they thinl you are a rich foreigner. All the venues I visited were in the Taksim area (downtown area) and easily walkable from one spot to the next. I went on a Thursday night, so it was a relatively quite night. This is a mixed venue with 10-15 ladies and shemales mixed together. Apparently the place has a mix of local shemales and gg from east Europe. Rather strange mix but fun for a night. Entry fee was 15 Lira (includes your first drink) and a beer also costs 15 Lira. The place had 4 or 5 shemales there. They were generally pretty average looking except for one absolute stunner. To be honest she looked so good I wasn’t even a hundred percent sure she was a shemale. The bar looks as such from the outside: Finally, when I was wandering around the backstreets of the Taksim area, I strolled down a street with two buildings with what I thought were ladies sitting at the windows (all of them). I didn’t pay much attention until a number of them made cat calls to get my attention, then I knew I had wandered into what was apparently a shemale redlight area. The ladies were of varying quality, some real rough heads, and some that were acceptable. I was thinking of popping in to have a go at one but I was gunshy as I am not sure how everything works. They objected to me taking a photo of the building as the police tends to crack down hard in conservative Turkey.
