Posted today Rareity Value: Jimbo Praises Thailand ! I grumble a lot about Thailand and thais in particular, but last night put a smile on my face. As i drove towards Kathu at 9pm, having just passed the brow of Patong Hill (thank God!), i felt the drive belt go on my Honda. So, power but no motion. I coasted all the way down the hill and came to rest outside a repair shed (i can't describe it as anything more than that) with a solitary middle-aged thai guy tinkering with a few bikes. I described as best i could using pigeon thai, tinglish, and hand gestures what had happened and could he fix it? "Come back 1 hour". "What time you close?" I answered. "Never close" I walked to my friends house, and we went for dinner, returning to the shed at 11pm, and the bike was fixed: 580 baht ! I can just imagine the same scenario back in England, with the Honda mechanic shaking his head, sucking in his cheeks, and telling me what a tough job that was going to be, and being presnted with a bill for 580 QUID ! Plus VAT!
