  1. Well I think with me it's a case of ticking the boxes of things I wanted to do so I would not have to live with "what ifs" I used to want to live in Spain, and so I went and did it in Madrid and Barcelona, I sort of got it out of my system. The same with Thailand/Bkk and Cambodia. I told myself I wanted to live there, did it and now the mystery is gone. I remember my first time in Phnom Penh, and thinking some day I'd like to come back and live here for a while. The thought stayed with me and finally I did it last year. Now no longer do I have to live with the wonder of what it would be like to live there. The curiosity has been removed. At the moment I have gotten all of these places out of my system and can appreciate home more, as I don't feel like life is happening elsewhere. When I want to live a fantasy life these days I can just hope on a plane, meet with up with the fine gents here, and then head back home when I have my fill. The balance suits me fine, I am at peace with the urges which controlled my thoughts up to recently. That's also why I said I may hang around Thailand longer than the planned 4 months. My previous two jobs were in high schools in Bkk, I am still curious to see what it would be like to teach in a language academy with adults. If a decent job offer comes along I would consider it, but I don't have any urge to put too much effort into it as I have a job to come back to at home. Maybe that's why some of us here feel more comfortable with home than in the past, as the old cliché says, been there, done that.
  2. Now that Num looks interesting, yum Num.
  3. Got to agree with you DC. Nothing like a relaxing meal in Dolce Vita and then the short stroll down to catch the show, bliss.
  4. Yea it was open when I was there in Dec. '07. Think it closed soon after that The owner, Sasar or something like that later worked in La Bamba, but would never let anyone take her photos. Looked a bit like Halle Berry.
  5. I think the big 50 gets us thinking about what we really want to get out of life for the second, shorter in most cases, part of this great journey. It's time to analyse what's important and make the most of it. I am 2 and a half years shy of 50 and spend a lot of time pondering how the next 20 years will play out. This year I am planning to spend 4 months in Los, with the option of extending it to 6 or 7 months if I decide to work in Bkk. I really enjoy meeting up with you great guys there, many of you have become an important part of my life, not only in SE Asia but in general. But the call of home has become stronger the last few years. Even 4 or 5 years ago I could see myself living in SE Asian for years, but now that hunger has been replaced with an appreciation of what I have at home, what we all have, family. The folks are getting older, who knows how many years they have left and I want to spend as much time as I can with them as possible, while also having the outlet of Los etc for my other life. So that's where I am at now, but who knows how those feelings may change over the coming years. Great thread JaiDee and good to see some honest soul searching being discussed.
  6. Don't think any of our American members would feel homesick in Dublin this weekend. Approx. 30,000 US citizens have flown in for the game between Navy and Notre Dame, the single biggest peace time movement of Americans abroad according to reports, awesome as the "locals" would say.
  7. For sure. The idea when I started it was just post whatever is on your mind at any given time and see where it goes with replies. Saves having to keep starting new threads.
  8. I can feel your excitement, noting like the rush of an approaching trip. Have a safe journey and we look forward to any input you can give us.
  9. Great information there Premier. PP as you know does not have a huge population of LBs to start with. So any exodus to Siem Reap would be noticed for sure. Just as a bit of trivia, I believe Siem Reap means Siam defeated as the Khmers won some battle over them back in the mists of time.
  10. Cue Joe Jackson singing to you in Sydney Brucie.
  11. I was chatting to an LB whose boyfriend is visiting. She was telling me some of her antics and I said do you boom boom him. She said no, "He is a real man: lol. So there you have it gents.
  12. Was chatting to one of the girls there and she said the LBs will be remaining on under the new ownership.
  13. I wonder will they have some on Dongtan beach.
  14. Your absence is forgiven with this wonderful tsunami of photos Flatpack lol. We were going to organise a search party, fly some member over to see were you MIA. Anyway great to see you got your internet sorted and those bikini photos, wow. All the best with the bar, catch you finally in 2 months (or does 8 weeks sound shorter?)
  15. Yep the EXIF info shows this photo for example was taken on 29 August.at 5.58.20. Up to date info, the way we like it here on LBR.
  16. Welcome to the forum Pattayapunter. There are a few events on during the first week of September, some good opportunities to meet fellow members. You can see them posted in the Pattaya Times and also on Upcoming Calendar Events on the home page. Have a great trip and maybe keep us posted on how you get on if you have some free time.
  17. Roadhouse/Sallys: Quietguy has mentioned in the Sallys bar thread that there is a party on Friday 31. Tim has sold the bar and is having a farewell do.
  18. Quietguy has said in the Sallys Bar thread that there is a party there on Friday 31. Tim is selling up and it's his going away party.
  19. Haha I am better than you, I'm a dick.
  20. Looks like it is going to be another fun night in Baby Boom. Good luck to all that can make the party.
  21. Lol thanks for that Duke. I see, 1,982 Total Members RoundShutiouh Newest Member 918 Most Online The software seems to have a mind of its own with statistics.
  22. I have just noticed we are 18 members shy of 2000. For such a small forum we seem to be doing pretty well regarding regular posters. Thanks for all you efforts guys, onwards and upwards.
  23. Ah brings back great memories of Pooks bar training on the beach for the VB 3 years ago. Excellent work Mardhi, damn wish I was there now.
  24. Yes good point Rx and alas she did not elaborate on what he had done but I got the feeling it was not something like an assault or involving any violence thank god.
  25. I agree with not wanting to seem to be patronising them by speaking in broken English when in fact they might appreciate us speaking with simple, clear words. One guy who has mastered the art of communicating what he wants in Los is Dav26. His verbal gymnastics of mixing Thai and English in his distinctive manner is something to witness. It may be pigeon but the locals love his sanook charm it seems.
