RIP Adam Yauch, MCA Of The Beastie Boys

Recommended Posts

It's kind of a strange thing, mourning celebrities. But this one has me a bit gutted.

I grew up with the Beastie Boys. I wanted to be a Beastie Boy. I was a freshman in high school when Licensed to Ill came out, and they've been with me ever since, practically a running soundtrack to the lives of myself and all my various circles of friends.

He was an artist of the people. He grew up from his precociousness and tried to make a difference. That first Tibetan Freedom Concert was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life.

Living in New York, it seemed like I used to run into that dude everywhere, on the street, in the subway, with his wife (asian, props), and his daughter. Hell, I even ran into him in front of the Casino Monte Carlo in Nice, France. Got a dope pic of us, too. He was so cool.

The fucking Beastie Boys. Original. And fucking awesome. One of my all-time favorites. It's very sad to know I'll never see them or hear another original Beasties record again...

Rest in Peace, MCA. You deserve it. You gave us so much enjoyment...

[Apologies if this is a bit sappy. I'm rather surprised myself how much it's affecting me... ]

I think Fight For Your Right To Party is an awesome tune, perhaps not the fave of big Beastie fans, but good gritty rock and roll! RIP Adam.
