farangbah
It's kind of a strange thing, mourning celebrities. But this one has me a bit gutted. I grew up with the Beastie Boys. I wanted to be a Beastie Boy. I was a freshman in high school when Licensed to Ill came out, and they've been with me ever since, practically a running soundtrack to the lives of myself and all my various circles of friends. He was an artist of the people. He grew up from his precociousness and tried to make a difference. That first Tibetan Freedom Concert was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life. Living in New York, it seemed like I used to run into that dude everywhere, on the street, in the subway, with his wife (asian, props), and his daughter. Hell, I even ran into him in front of the Casino Monte Carlo in Nice, France. Got a dope pic of us, too. He was so cool. The fucking Beastie Boys. Original. And fucking awesome. One of my all-time favorites. It's very sad to know I'll never see them or hear another original Beasties record again... Rest in Peace, MCA. You deserve it. You gave us so much enjoyment... [Apologies if this is a bit sappy. I'm rather surprised myself how much it's affecting me... ] 1 Quote Link to comment
Lone Ranger
I had seen the band a few times and always enjoyed their music. They also put on to Puma States trainers back in the early 80's when every man and his dog were wearing Adidas. Music and style gurus. RIP Adam Quote Link to comment
Guest Stroker
I think Fight For Your Right To Party is an awesome tune, perhaps not the fave of big Beastie fans, but good gritty rock and roll! RIP Adam. Quote Link to comment
iceberg
I'm right there with you as when I got home from work friday night and saw this on yahoo,it choked me up a bit as I'm a huge Beasties fan, myself. "Licensed to Ill" is still my favorite BB album, followed by "Paul's Boutique". R.I.P. MCA! Quote Link to comment
