I started writing something similar. I don't think too many people are stressing about this & I haven't heard of anyone coming to blows over it. There's something else we agree on Ciobha... You can say that again!! I thought you were never going to buy me a drink at the PBG last year...

That speaks volumes for Nok, both for her kindness in helping a fellow person (I nearly wrote 'fellow man'... blimey, I'll get myself banned) & also it bears witness to her intelligence. Nok has good business acumen & knows that her customers deserve help plus it can only be good for her bar. And having met Nok, I am sure she would do it if you weren't a customer though perhaps not take them back to the bar to save rent. What is that adage the girls say? "Good for you, good for me" I can't be sure, it was quoted in another forum & I thought even for Pattaya, that sounded a lot. 260 per year! Not inconceivable though. I wonder what reaction there would be if the western media revealed that many deaths in Pattaya from Thais killing their farang partners? People promoting racial equality would be up in arms, the social justice people would be in denial from the jump, oops, I mean from the start. And the old guys in love with their 24 yo Thai bargirl would be screaming to have the story censored & the media banned. Reminds me of another old adage - "There are none so blind as those who do not want to see"

Two, five, who cares, two a year is disgraceful. I was surprised at five but we are talking about a society that holds human life in low regard. So any number wouldn't shock me. The latest ploy is to force bread down someone's mouth till they choke. Then the police report comes back that someone choked on their sandwich. Anyone who promises his Thai girlfriend his eternal love is in for a shock just how quick eternity comes around. The more posts about this subject on more forums can only help save lives. Unfortunately, every guy I have ever tried to counsel always declares that "my girl is different". Good luck working out if that applies to your girl or not.

How ironic! A Thai hotel owner calls up the Chiang Mai pest control company & he gets all his bugs killed in one go, albeit with a banned toxic chemical. Compare that experience with a farang hotel owner I know who gets his rooms sprayed with water. He is charged for proper treatment with chemicals but they will not stop trying to cheat him by spraying water. On the one hand, the Thai guy gets deluxe service & kills a half dozen customers, my friend gets lousy treatment & has to put up with upset customers complaining about bugs. I must tell him to advise his guests, "at least we didn't kill you". And those Pest sprayers, there's no way they would throw out any chemical they have paid for. It is probably being sold cheap on the black market. Only in Thailand.

I have walked both sides of the fence, over the years I have treated girls to some shopping, lots of meals, bought them clothes & shoes when they needed them, but last year I went very careful with my cash. As I planned to stay as long as my budget would stretch, I had no intention of hiring a girlfriend. That can get expensive when she is only there for what she can get. I understand when a guy who can only get away once or twice a year from a demanding job not wanting to spend his precious two weeks counting pennies & passing up on his dream date because she has hit him up for an extra 1000 baht. Makes no sense to me. One day in 30 years time, I would like to ask some of these fellas who let some of these gorgeous creatures go because she wouldn't go ST for 1000 baht, if they had any regrets. When trips to LOS are all just a memory, they will still have 1000 baht (or the equivalent of it), what good is to them then? I love the way some people approach life as if it were a dress rehearsal. Like they will be real careful in this life but when they come back, then will lash out & do all those things they deny themselves now. This doesn't apply to ex-pats who would only attract all the wrong attention if they threw money around. Man, how long would anyone last if they started that nonsense. Only a matter of time before the Thai mafia caught them in a trap. But it does apply to people who have an impoverished spirit. They can afford to do so much more but they just can't let go their purse strings. It's a mystery to me, they live like they are going to get some reward in heaven for being parsimonious. Remember, you can't take it with you. As should the CCs remember that without the 2WMs, the whole scene would collapse. Rents, wages, etc can't survive on a bunch of guys sitting on one drink slipping their phone number to a girl to call them after work. All those Russians & Indians buying cheap beer in 7-11 & standing outside the bars, how the hell do they think their contribution allows the bars to survive? The visitors from the subcontinent are the worst, they ask 100 girls every night if 3 of them can screw her for 200 baht. That was what they were up to last year. I doubt they have seen the light since then. But while I stayed on way past my normal departure time, I found two things happened - with some of the girls, familiarity bred contempt & they grew to hate the sight of me (weird considering I had never talked to them, maybe that was the problem) but with others, they became regular visitors to my hotel. They knew what they were going to get & I only had trouble from one primadonna who changed the rules after the deed was done. I quickly paid her what she demanded, it is crazy to make enemies when you are in their domain, she just wasn't invited again. Sorry for going offtopic Mr PDogg, you know you shouldn't encourage me...

This is classic, contemptuous behaviour. And it is all about FACE because she gets to demonstrate her power. Her coterie of hangers-on would have been onto you in a second if they could have. They don't have the privilege of trotting out a spare farang for the spectacle of making them look a fool. They wouldn't dare fall out of We We's good grace for fear of her retribution. She is now a VIP in her village, she's now Hi So, the ultimate goal for any village girl. (Hi So = High Society, the aim of every Thai is to be Hi So) I liked your comment about finding yourself in inappropriate situations all the time. It's only inappropriate for us, they love it... "look at me, I can bring farang to pay for drinks". And all her friends get a reminder of how powerful she is & give her the due deference that BIG FACE demands. And you need to be careful not to embarrass her in front of her friends, you know how vengeful they are & how cheap it is to buy retribution. I really hope her boyfriend gets to read this & realises what a fool he is being played for. These guys rarely discover what game they are caught up in until it is too late & they are being thrown off the balcony of their condo by her relatives. There was an average of 5 jumping farangs a week last year in Pattaya. All "suicides" of course. Saves a lot of unnecessary police work. We We shows her true colours with her final text message - "WHY YOU NO GIVE MONEY?" Why indeed? You should know by now, no money, no honey.

This thread brings back some memories. May 2007 was my first visit to Bar131. I was no stranger to LOS but I was a bit new to LB bars. Not new to LBs but an actual bar full of 'em, well I hadn't tried one of them before. I followed Franck's Diary on a few forums & thought he seemed a nice enough fella. He was charming & if he's still around, I am sure he reads all the forums whenever he gets online. I imagine he's living in Loei though not as comfortably as when he owned the nicest house in town. Brand new with all mod cons, it was a beauty. I have photos of it somewhere. With him standing out front with his wife & daughter. (His poor daughter, I hope she found some peace in the end) I remember introducing myself to Franck & he took me around & introduced me to Rossco, Seven & Bigtel. In that order. There were a few other fellas as well whose names escape me. I know Tel was chatting to someone, it may have been Lefty or even DaveDuke seeing as they were around at about that time. Ozzie came in with 2 LBs, he was in no mood for sharing his knowledge though. And all those familiar faces, Pond, Alis, Kwang, Noon, Moo, Janni, Sindy... others I can't remember. I do remember Nicky very well, I have photos of her myself. Those pics of Nicky posted by Deepthroat were taken after some break up. I am vague on the details but I remember those pics where she seems to have no make up on & she has that far-away look in her eyes. She was still only a kid & it was her first big bust-up or something. I don't feel like trolling through the threads to remind myself, I just know it was a stage she went through. It was the start of her hardening up process. When I first met her she was so delightful, so carefree... it's a shame that their vocation destroys them all in the end. How Nicky keeps her sanity in light of all the wackos who promised her the world & let her down, it boggles my mind. I know I was only one of 1000's who logged on to catch Franck's Diary every day. It was particularly exciting when he made a feature out of Nicky. He was genuinely besotted by her & made some crazy decisions based on his passion. At the time I thought he was mad but when I look back & consider how fleeting life is & how some experiences need to enjoyed NOW, I think for him to have done anything else would have been the crazy decision. It's strange how time can give an entirely different perspective to these things... :rolleyes:

I was actually thrilled to read your post. It made such a change from the placatory nonsense that gets written about Hi So Thais. I am sure some of them are nice but so many of them display the worst characteristics of man's inhumanity to man. And I didn't think you a racist for having the courage to write the truth. I was merely acknowledging how it might sound to some politically sensitive creature who looks for offence in any strident commentary about "race". Oh man, you have been there too long... The Minister with the tiger in his car... terrible but with a tiger's penis worth about $1,000,000 on the Chinese black market, what hope do the tigers have? Using a Ministerial portfolio to enrich oneself is par for the course not just in Thailand but in most all 3rd World countries. A sad fact of life when they are surrounded by untold poverty. Nothing we write here will do a damn thing to change it. Be afraid, be very afraid!! It is happening today with the most egregious example of it to my knowledge being the flourishing trade in counterfeit pharmaceuticals. They are everywhere in Asia now. The Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya told me last year that there were only a handful of local pharmacies who could be trusted to dispense legitimate medicine. China released their own figures that almost a million Chinese died last year from not getting their prescribed medication due to all the bogus drugs being sold in China. And they have already appeared on the shelves of Chemists in the UK. This is a massive problem now & all because someone is prepared to enrich themself at the expense of people's lives. I can't speak for others but I would be delighted if you took the time one day to expound upon this Buddhism versus Confucianism idea. I know I can google it but I am more interested as to how it applies in the real world. The real Thailand that is. Good question! The guy wrote fairy stories for a living. It sounds like he believes in fairies at the bottom of the garden. In other words, he was very naive. What are the odds his next book will be a horror story?

I cannot go past this comment without offering my support. As racist & politically incorrect it may sound, it is my experience that there is more truth written here than can be found in any published article written about wealthy Chinese. And remember the Hi So Thais are Chinese Thais. Thaksin is Chinese Thai, he was born near the border & had to change his name to a Thai name when he wanted to enter politics. The Thai constitution has been changed in ways that make it hard (I was told "impossible") for non-Chinese Thais to be elected. I don't know any specific details about that, I was told by local Thai business people. And Lung's comments about not trusting these people to do the right thing when it comes down to a decision between making money for them self or doing the right thing by the average man, such as adding Melamine to make baby milk go further, they will opt for profit every time. There was never a more blatant case as to their mindset as the Melamine episode in China. Observers in the West were dumbfounded but among the educated Asians, they knew that one of the dirty secrets about how to get rich in Asia had been blown open. We assume this was an isolated incident & that it could never happen again. This is dangerous thinking, far better to assume the worst because one day it might be you being fed poison because the hotel or the restaurant isn't making enough money to pay for proper ingredients. I am sorry if this offends any Chinese or other Asian nationalities here on the board, please bear in mind that I was set straight on these matters by Chinese Thais. Good guys, they were just as disgusted as the rest of us.
