MARTIAL LAW was the reason behind a spike in tourist arrivals in the second half of last year, a government spokesman said yesterday.

Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that thanks to martial law, local residents and visitors felt safe.

His remarks came following renewed calls for martial law to be lifted, with many tourism businesses arguing that it adversely affects the sector.

"One clear proof [the opposite is happening] is that the number of tourists to Thailand increased 16 per cent in the last six months of 2014 when compared to the first half [of the year], which saw much political unrest and violence," Sansern said.

In the first half of last year the number of tourist arrivals was 11.47 million, climbing to 13.3 million in the last six months, he said.

The spokesman noted that tourism is Thailand's major revenue earner, accounting for about 10 per cent of the country's gross domestic product.

"Martial law has not affected the every day life of honest law-abiding citizens. Instead it helps assure safety for everyone living in Thailand," Sansern said.

He added that martial law was still considered necessary. The spokesman said the authorities were enforcing martial law carefully and only when necessary. "It definitely has not caused uneasiness for innocent people," he said.

Frenchman arrested for shoplifting meat from North Pattaya Supermarket

On Sunday afternoon a 60 year old Frenchman was arrested by Pattaya Police after he was caught by Security Guards at a North Pattaya Supermarket, attempting to leave with meat products he had not paid for.

Mr. Thomas Micallef was caught placing two bags of meat into another bag of meat which had just been weighed and priced. A security guard saw what Mr. Micallef was doing and followed him until he left the store.

The bag of meat was re-weighed and it was confirmed that he had loaded the bag with extra meat prior to him paying for the item at the checkout.

This is not the first time he has been caught taking items without paying at the Tesco-Lotus Store on the North Pattaya Road. He was caught on 22nd October 2014 attempting to steal salad cream. At the time he was fined and released but this time the store would like him prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I wish she'd block Hugo Yaperz, the Indian knob who keeps posting a pic of a knob. For some reason I cannot report him. Incidentally, he got his pictures from here and here.

On Facebook, you usually get a warning the first time before the page is zapped.  It could have been Hugo's knob that caused the problem.

Though topless shots of silicone boobs and topless shots of sexy feminine ladyboys like Lola can get a page zapped too.  You never know exactly why your Group/Page/Profile was zapped.

These recent pics have gotten guys to check out the bar.

Sexy ladyboys and a comfy aircon bar is a great combination!       :drinks:

  4. Soi 6 really has changed over the past few years.

Gone are days when most of the bars were indoors grope bars..

While the bars closest to 2nd Road haven't changed that much, the rest of the soi is open air bars that are clubhouses fro the guys from str8 forums.

It had been a relatively quiet soi. Last night I walked the length and never heard it so loud.  Not sure about the girth.

  5. I was sitting in a gogo tonight watching the girls boys and this song came on.  The dancers liked it. I liked it. But I was thinking to myself that none of my friends would like it which inspired my thread.

But my teerak came home as I was playing it and she started dancing.

Without further addieu a dance version of Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.

  6. Looks like Ifound this a day too late.  But perhaps this organization has other events.

I suppose there are similar pics around somewhere but I can't recall ever seeing one before.

This morning at 6am 700 police and army officers carried out a dawn raid in Koh Samui. During the raid 26 dawn-raids-4-300x223.jpgindividuals were targeted. Soldiers armed with machine guns were lowered onto the island from helicopters as homes around the island were raided. Some homes were raided via the roof in scenes that looked like something out of an action movie. Many of the homes owners came out looking bewildered still dressed in night attire.

According to Thai news reports the move came after the very public execution of a prominent local businessman, the 49 year old man was gunned down while having dinner in a restaurant in the popular Fishemen’s village. The shooting took place around 7-20pm during the village’s weekly walking street, hundreds of tourists were witness to the crime, authorities are gravely concerned that dawn-raids-2-300x199.jpgsuch acts will have a negative effect on tourism and are concerned about violent crimes on the island as a whole, specifically gun crime.

Ruengsri Travel in Bophut was among the targets this morning, however, little was recovered in the raid, only 2 bullets and a few training bullets.

However arrests have been made and an announcement is expected later today with regards to arrests made and hauls of drugs and weapons that were recovered in the raid.

Plenty of ska music too , Thai's seem to like the beat Issan music has the same heavy bass and choppy beat .

Last year there were 4 stages.

This year only 2, the Main Stage and the South Pattaya Stage.

Not sure of the exact location of either.

  11. I'll hazard a guess that one is Rick's Bar in Casablanca....           :party0005:

    That's Number 2 Paccers!

    2. Rick's Café Américain

    post-7348-0-62308300-1426728785_thumb.jp

    First Appeared: Casablanca (1942)

Notable Patrons: Elsa, Victor Laslo, Captain Renault, Nazi scum

    Signature Drink: Champagne and Brandy

There's no telling how many people dreamt of opening a bar before Casablanca was made, but from the second "As Time Goes By" pours through Rick's Café Américain, lacquering a coat of glory over every surface, untold sentimentalists decided to get into the booze business. Rick's isn't just a bar with everyday patrons—the majority of the customers are facing decisions that will permanently alter the rest of their lives. Refugees from across the war-torn world wash up in Morocco, and Rick's is both the place to forget and face their troubles. In the end it becomes the backdrop for love, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice. A legendary respite and gin joint for the most honorable of vagabonds.

  12. There are canopies on Beach Road

    post-7348-0-32626500-1426697141_thumb.jp

for the vendors at the Pattaya Music Festival.  This is on the road itself, not the sidewalk.

I heard they were set up yesterday although the vendors won't be there until Friday.  Not great for traffic flow but there wasn't too much traffic on Beach Road tonight.  There were some nice ladyboys in the  Soi 12-13 area  though.

My understanding is that Beach Road will be closed to vehicular traffic Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings.

  13. There was some discussion of Dino's Bar and Grill in the Irish Trivia thread that meandered into talk about Thin Lizzy and who are the "Boys" in "The Boys Are Back In Town"  Don't think those boys were from Soi Sunee.

Googling around to find if Dino's exists, some say it's in LA, I found a website listing the Top 50 Coolest Fictional Bars.

Can anyone guess Number 1 and Number 2?

Any ideas for a name and a theme for your fictional Ladyboy Bar?

    11. Dino's Bar and Grill        :sword:

    post-7348-0-11491700-1426677200_thumb.jp

First Appeared: "The Boys Are Back in Town," Thin Lizzy (1976)
    Notable Patrons: The Boys
    Signature Drink: The Drink

Yes, until we gave this one another listen, we also thought that the only lyrics to

were "The boys are back in town.” Though their needs are simple, the boys at Dino's Bar and Grill are looking to have a good time. “Drink will flow and blood will spill”—this spot isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you go, it should be a good time causing big trouble. Guitar solo!

    20. Bada Bing!   :bling:

    post-7348-0-93240000-1426677213_thumb.jp

First Appeared: "46 Long," The Sopranos (1999)
Notable Patrons: Tony Soprano, Ralph Cifaretto, Paulie Walnuts
Signature Drink: Body shots of tequila

David Chase was right to choose "Bada Bing" as the name of the strip club owned by Silvio Dante on The Sopranos. Not only is it a nod to The Godfather, the serious mob film all other serious mob films aspire to, it is a vast improvement on Wiggles, which was the inspiration for the topless bar where the plans for so many whackings are laid. From Big Pussy to Richie Aprile, the deaths of all your favorite characters were plotted here, amidst the silicon and glitz. The perfect training ground for a boss.

    21. Cheers    :drinks:

    post-7348-0-44239500-1426677230_thumb.jp

First Appeared: "Give Me a Ring Sometime," Cheers (1982)
Notable Patrons: Norm Peterson, Cliff Clavin, Frasier Crane, Lilith Sternin
    Signature Drink: Carla's cocktails

Inevitably someone in your life will compare a relationship they have with a restaurant, or bar, or vending machine, as being like that of Norm and Cheers. It's an unavoidable fact of being alive that most likely stems from the fact that Cheers is nothing like a real bar at all. The bartenders never seem to do any real work.  No one ever vomits or becomes anything but hilariously eccentric after their ninth beer; and no tragedy ever makes its way into the bar except as plot fodder. Cheers is a pillowy purgatory, disembodied from the real pricks and pleasures of a real bar.
