  1. First I thought it was just bluster from the administration.  Still dont totally believe it until the black boxes, which are actually orange, have been examined.  I mean examined by a competent, experienced, unbiased entity.

Also reports out of the UK and Canada are making the same claims.  Evidently, there were 63 Canadian citizens on that flight.  They should lead the charge here.....

Well I finally made it to the head office of Super Rich Thailand (Green)!

I felt like the way some guys feel when they finally get to go to a ladyboy bar they've been reading about on a forum.  I almost came in my pants!    This is where you can get the very best rates for most currencies in Thailand.  If taking the BTS, get off at Chitlom and walk away from Nana and towards Siam Square.  Make a right on Rajdamri.  If you reach the canal boat station then you went slightly too far.

From the airport link take it to the next to last stop which is Ratchaprarop.   Head towards Central World. Cross Petchaburi and  then cross the canal and make the first left.

The Head Office of Super Rich Thailand has a rate for USD that is usually about 3 satang better than Vasu and 5 satang better than TT Exchange in Pattaya.  Probably quite good for other currencies too. It's quite an efficient operation. You walk in. They copy your passport and then you wait for the next available teller.

Super Rich 1965 (Orange) is across the soi and there is third place nearby so easy to check the rates.  Although I doubt if these other places have a policy of better rates than SuperRich Thailand but at a specific hour if the rate has just changed at one of the place, one of the competitors might be better.  Buy/Sell spreads looked pretty tight for most currencies. Nepal was an exception.  Probably in Nepal you should exchange rupees for USD and then in Thailand exchange those USD for baht.

  6. Geeze this is a bit depressing!  I have NEVER received less than 30 per dollar and hope I never do.  Wont be back until the middle of February and hope it goes up a bit at least.  It is what it is.  I dont go out much and I dont live like a monger but still I have bills to pay in Thailand.

  7. Posted on another thread.  Top 3 for me:  TJs, Katty, and Why Not.  Probably in that order.

Now whts you fav LB bar now defunct??

Think mine was the original Guess on Soi 1.  Was it called Guess back then?  Shit, I forget.  those were the halcyon days of Asian TS with Jai Dee and Stogie on the scene.  That place was like a little clubhouse....

Also enjoyed the Beverly Hills Club on Soi 8 when I was but a LB pup, a mere rookie.

  8. This year was the first year in a long time I was actually awake at midnight. Was at familys house.  Didnt go out but they did for a short while.  I stayed in and looked after the dog!!!  Years gone by I would work NY Eve and NY day as we got a bit extra for working the holidays.  The last few years I couldnt be arsed.

Hope 2020 is a good one for everyone concerned.  Good health to everyone....

  9. I just entered the 21st century and got a personal I Phone.  Had one for work but, for obvious reason, couldnt do a lot of stuff on it!!  When I am in LOS I still rely on phone cards from 7-11. They are convenient and cheap.  Two hundred baht lasts me a good long while.

  10. I know you are the man about town BB, but honestly, why would one venture to Walking Street?  I think the only reason I would go to that area would be to pay a visit to The Beer Garden-nice area, decent prices and food and its a nice setting.

Not knocking anyone who might wish to have a mooch around WS but, to me, whats the point??

  11. Well, as I end up spending more and more time in Thailand I would like to think of myself as am almost resident. If you are going to live in thailnd, you must have outside interests.  Even when I was 15 years younger I didnt want to spend all my time in bars and shagging.  Now I am older, less so.

Sometimes I play the Lotto.  That has smaller jackpots than PowerBall and, in theory, you have a better chance of winning.  When I am in Thailand, I always but a few tickets.  Its funny but in the last few months I have won 4,000 once and 2,000 once.  Years ago I won another 4,000 but I bet I am still way down on my original "investment".  Just a bit of fun and should lightning strike........

  12. Look guys, Pattaya has been changing and the type of people visiting there is changing.  Its been changing for at least 10 years, maybe more.  Kind of like some of the Gulf states trying to wean themselves off oil sales for its economies, Pattaya is trying to wean itself off a sex tourists economy.  Pussy and LB cock will always be on the menu in Pattaya.  Its just that things are "evolving".  If my life were different and if I were a younger, I am certain i would try and monger in different places.  Having said that, Thailand is still probably the easiest, most laid back and has the best infrastructure for mongering.

I would love to know what the monthly "nut" or overhead is to some of these LB bars.  I had a couple of miscreant buddies I know took a little trip down Pattayaway last month and my two buddies ended up drinking and buying a lot of lady drinks there.  I know that made their night but did it make their half week??  Their week??  BTW it was Katty Bar they visited.

the other forum BMs you mention Rom are rarely around the Katty nowadays.

Bell  too... long away from the scene

Mona?  who knows..still around in Pattaya somewhere... maybe Duke knows.  if you get to the Katty just ask teya to phone her? or pokki if she's around.

If Duke doesnt know-nobody knows!!  The guy is usually a fountain of misinformation but when it comes to LBs he knows all!!!

  14. Well, I am still in the workforce so I income.  I spend a lot of time in Thailand and I have a job that allows me huge amounts of time off.  My time off is only limited by my bank balance.  Thats EXTREMELY rare for someone in the American workforce.  Having said that getting older I want to enjoy the fruits of my many years of graft and tend NOT to be in the mood to deny myself.  Historically, I have lived simple and rather frugally. I have had to as I never made much money.

Spending a lot of time in Thailand, specifically Bangkok, the lure of whoring and the bars has faded.  Dont get me wrong I still like to play around a bit but its not nearly as important and the drive isnt there as much anymore.  I can be in Bangkok for three weeks and only go out a night or two as I have other things going on in my life.

The lousy exchange rate doesnt help.  I am like PDogg in that, if I ever came into some money, I would invite some friends for holidays on my dime. I think that would be cool.  I have a couple of great guys I know for whom I would LOVE to be able to do something. The main thing is I am not in the mood to deny myself small pleasures.  I am getting older.  My Dad dropped dead suddenly at almost the same age I am right now.  I think that I have sacrificed and saved and have this sum of money in my own retirement account, called a 401K here, so what if I drop dead?  How fucking cruel would that be?  I mean I would be dead so I wouldnt know but fuck me that would piss me off royally!!!!

Sorry for a bit of a ramble.  But I really wouldnt want to live a sort of "Cheap Charlie" type budget......

I was trade union activist when I was working. I'm still a (retired) member of my union.

I have occasionally talked to Thai lbs about trade unionism and workers' rights but they don't seem to know anything about this.

So many sectors of the Thai work force, especially the hospitality industry NO not THAT type of hospitality either, needs protections and rules.  But I dont think its something in the fiber of the Thai DNA to fight like that.  It would be crushed brutally in the crib anyway......
