During this entire ongoing pandemic getting useful and thoughtful information has been as much a challenge as dodging the virus.  In the US, individuals who should have been definitive voices by virtue of the positions they hold have either been wishy-washy or polarizing (e.g., Anthony Fauci at the NIH and Rochelle Wallensky at the CDC).  Add to them each major news outlet having their pet expert, usually with a political orientation aligned with that of the respective new outlet, and you only have further confusion.

Two individuals who I've come to follow during this time have been Eric Topol at the Scripps Institute and Peter Hotez at Baylor College of Medicine.  Unlike most other talking head "experts", Drs. Topol and Hotez are active and internationally respected researchers, not just administrators.  They are also excellent in communicating complex issues in medicine and research.  Way too many articles, opinion pieces, etc. to post links to, but both are very active on Twitter and other outlets.  Seriously, just google either of them and follow the links to their most recent observations.  And, they each post several tweets with links every day. 

At the moment, both are of the mindset that we are now in a lull before the next big storm in the form of ever more quickly mutating Omicron variants that are ever more transmissible, and for which the current first generation covid vaccines are less effective.  Oh, and let's not forget animal reservoirs of the covid virus.  Yikes!  The only thing more scary is an excessively hairy ladyboy butt crack!
