  1. I've been seeing the same lb for 4 years, and we have plans to make it more official - but still that's not in the 10 year plus range yet.

My ex-gf was in a common-in-law relationship in the UK for four years, but then split up as her partner started seeing other ladies (gg), and insisted that she had to conform to "high" English society standard to be a proper "lady".

  2. I think the most famous Thai lb is Nong Poy - Miss Tiffany and Miss International Queen 2007. She's been on TV, in movies, videos, magazines, and is very well known throughout Asia. She's also a successful model and is current featured in an ad campaign for G-Net mobile phone service in Thailand.

  3. KenW, I think you are thinking of Li Jing - here's a Youtube video about her:

I think there are long term relationships with lbs and certainly ts that we don't hear about because they have blended in with society and don't make a big deal about it.

  4. Some general advice when using ATMs in any country, including home. Skimming (capturing the information in the magnetic card stripe) cards is becoming a more frequent scam. To minimize this watch out for the following when using an ATM, does the card slot seem to protrude out further than normal? It should be close to flush with the face of the ATM. Most modern ATMs feature a flashing green light around the card slot, if this is missing be suspicious, as a card skimmer may have been installed over top the card slot. Always obscure any views while you are entering your PIN. Don't use the ATM when any suspicious looking people are nearby.

  5. ringspun - there is another option. If you will be using the same hotel when you return to BKK from VN - they generally have a secure luggage storage area you can use until your return. Typically there is no charge involved, especially if you are a repeat guest. My favorite hotel, Grand Business Inn, Sukhumvit Soi 11 has this service I've used on many occasion, without problems.

  6. The gyms listed by PD will have weights and machines, but I don't think they would have a punching bag, and likely the same for the gym in the Landmark Hotel. Look for a Muay Thai centre for a punching bag, or you could always make friends with "Lights Out" Janet from Cascade - she's quite involved in Muay Thai.

  7. Al Qaida already verified he's dead and blew up 80 people in Pakistan for "revenge". His wives and surviving son have confirmed it as well, so a photo is really unnecessary. One of the Republican senators has seen the photo and attested to how gory it is.

It is a contrast how Obama has handled the announcement - not trumpeting it or showing off as some other previous presidents would have done. Hopefully some of the US citizens can grasp that, and not be fooled by the ridiculous Tea Party and Republican attacks. It would be a shame if he were a one term president and a nutcase like Palin won the next presidential ballot.

  8. Body Surfer, you're welcome - best if you take an lb companion to the contest who can translate for you, if you don't understand Thai. It is pricey though, main floor seats cost 2500 Baht this year.

Here's the story from The Nation about the contest - note the occupations some of the contestants have - a change from previous years!

There she is - 'Sammy' Sirapassorn is crowned Miss Tiffany's Universe

It was once again a night of eyepopping, heart thumping production numbers as the perfectly madeup contestants sashayed across the stage in their best evening gowns.Like a spinoff of the cabaret theatre Miss Tiffany Show, Saturday night's Miss Tiffany's Universe pageant was all about glittering gowns, huge sets, extra large headdresses and one fabulous extravaganza.

The annual competition for transgenders and transvestites has raised the bar for katoey beauty pageants to a classy affair, with quality contestants of different educational backgrounds and professions.

Third year communication arts student Sirapassorn "Sammy" Auttayakorn from Bangkok's Suan Dusit University bested 29 other contestants to be crowned Miss Tiffany's Universe 2011 in a pageant watched on the small screen by millions of Thais through a delayed telecast. The first runnerup was 23yearold student Saranrat "Nat" Chaiyakorn while coming in a close third was Tissanamadi "Gigi" Bunniyom, a fourth year costumes design student at Bangkok's Rajabhat University.

Tissanamdi, who was initially a crowd favourite, also won the Best in Costume and Miss Photogenic special awards. Other special award winners were Serinapa Petchaboon, who picked up Miss Unlimited Sexy Star for having the best swimsuit, Archiraya Trithanawiboon (Miss Congeniality), Atchreechaya Tanuganurat (Most Stylish Cocktail Dress), Variny Khumpaiphuan (Miss NuRiss Beauty) and Sirapassorn Auttayakorn (Miss Silky Skin By Asoke Skin Hospital).

Sirapassorn, who takes home Bt120,000 and a Toyota Yaris, will represent Thailand at Miss International Queen, a pageant for transvestites and transgenders from around the world, taking place in Pattaya in November.

But beyond all the glamour of this beauty pageant and the apparent tolerance it reflects, Thailand remains a very conservative society that frowns upon transgenders and transvestites. Many families still believe that being gay is just a passing phase and when boys who show some effeminate tendencies marry off, these strange fads will go away.

Sirapassorn's story is similar to that of past winners and contestāļŒants.

The 21yearold Chiang Mai native says she's always felt different and her family knew it but shrugged off the idea that she was anything but a boy.

At 15, she started wearing women's clothes, putting on makeup and growing her hair long. The family still believed she was conāļŒfused and that she would change her mind.

"This is my way of proving to them that this is me," says Sirapassorn.

Acceptance has obviously not been easy but her parents and brother came all the way from Chiang Mai to watch her on stage and gamely posed for pictures, kissing and hugging her, after the pageant.

Sirapassorn believed that getting the family's acceptance is the first challenge transgenders, transvestites and gay people have to overcome before they can come out in society.

"I will be complete inside and out if and when I am accepted in this society," she says.

She cites past Miss Tiffany's Universe and Miss International Queen winner Treechada "Poy" Malayaporn as an inspiration because "she has opened more avenues for transgender men in Thailand".

Treechada is the model for Thai mobile phone brand GNet and has appeared in television shows and movies, proving that transgenders and transvestites can find a niche in the mainstream entertainment industry, which has traditionally been biased towards straight men and women.

Sirapassorn's message to transgender men and others who feel they are trapped in the wrong body is to "just follow yourself. If you think you are a girl, then be a girl and don't mind about your body."

Miss Tiffany Universe 2010 Nalada "Mik" Thamthanakom says she was happy with the contestants this year, saying they showed great talent and wit.

This year's pageant also saw a number of professional contestants, among them a doctor, a flight attendant, a pharmacist, an engineer and a government civil servant.

Miss Tiffany Universe will always be fabulous and more than entertaining. But for Sirapassorn, the show has just started and the challenge to all transgenders and transvestites still remains

  9. The cheap charlies are operating under the mistaken belief the 2 week millionaires are driving up the costs of what the girls are asking. Having done some research on another forum, the costs have not changed significantly over the past 7 years.

The ladies know that there will always be some customers who are willing to pay more - for example the Japanese, and some who will not pay that much, like the resident ex-pats. Depending on their economic situation at the moment, they could accept a "cheap charlie" offer. By the way, the Japanese have been coming for decades and don't seem to have impacted the cost of the ladies either!

So, it should be live and let live - don't get obsessed by what the various groups pay, as long as you enjoy yourself during your LOS adventure - ultimately that is what matters.

Jimslim, are you sure that's not an effect of those Irish genes?

  10. This is the Thai TV 7 website: Thai TV 7. There is a button for TV Online - so you might be able to watch the contest in that section. Just remember it starts 10:30 pm Thai time Friday May 6 and ends at 12:30 am. If you don't know Thai it may be difficult to follow.

  11. For those in Pattaya on May 4, the Miss Unlimited Sexy Star segment of Miss Tiffany Universe is on. It will be held at Central Festival Pattaya Mall.

Here are a couple of videos and photos to give you an idea of what it will be like:

  12. Haven't you wondered why some lbs have bad breast jobs? Nipples pointing different directios, One breast higher than another, or too close to each other? All the result of bad placement, probably because she went to a cheap or inexperienced doctor.

Of course the other contributing factor is not good post surgical care. The breasts must be massaged daily for a number of months to "settle" in properly - something Gizmo knows quite well! :D

  13. Hound of Baskervilles, I think you must be talking about acetazolamide (Diamox - brand name). Iodine is used for protecting the thyroid in case of radiation exposure, as what happened in Japan.

JD, have a great trip, some of my friends used to do the trek to Everest base camp before the problems and loved it.

  14. I don't think the doctors suggest big implant sizes. My girlfriend was recommended to get 320 cc implants, but just as she was going under from the anesthesia, she told the doctor to upgrade to 340 cc implants. They turned out great, but as JD wrote too big for a regular Thai lady.

My ex-gf on the other hand decided on smaller implants, probably around 260-280 cc and she is 100% passable.

As far as I know I think silicone and saline implants are available in LOS. Some of the ones mentioned in the internet article such as soya emulsion implants, and saline expandable implants are not available in LOS.

The most common insertion method LOS drs use is via the axillary route (under the armpit), which hides the scar quite well, but makes it harder to accurately place the implant so everything is aligned well. The second most common would be inframammary, so just under the breast fold.

  15. Giz, good photo there - still looks fairly recent after the operation. Were you the one who got to do the daily massage to help them settle in? :D

  16. Probably the lowest price/reasonable quality is Pratunam Polyclinic in Bangkok, which is operated by Dr. Thep. Many Thai lbs go there because of his lower prices and generally good work. The only caveat is that he does not use general anesthesia only local to perform the operation, so post surgery the patient must have a high pain threshold. He also does not charge as much differential fees for foreigners as most This hospitals/clinics do.

The other place lbs say is good is called Suay Ngam clinic in Nonthaburi, a suburb of Bangkok. They do use general anesthesia here. I think the drawback to this place is they don't speak much English.
