Thanks Mardhi. It's good that you don't feel the need to only promote Bar Anaconda. I want to check out some of the other mixed bars over the next three weeks, so this is useful for me. But I will be coming into Anaconda too, of course.

Like the Indian white wine it will be ignored

KenW, Indian wines used to be pretty dire, but on my last visit to Goa two years ago there were some reasonable Indian produced white wines available in the hotel, and even in some of the beach shacks.

I can't remember the name of the producer ( Ithink it was Indage vineyard) of the wine in the hotel restaurant, but it was quite good. Though it was about £20 a bottle due to the high 'luxury' (ie tourist) tax, it was still cheaper than the imported Australian wines.

The white wine which was available in the beach shacks was called 'Sula' if I remember correctly. I think it was about £10 a bottle, and while not great, it was certainly drinkable.

Edit: Neither of those links seem to work, but if you google 'Indian white wines' you will get some useful information about Indian wines which are being increasingly recognised as quite good.

I'm surprised to see New York at second place from what I've heard about them.

But I agree that London cabbies are the best in the world. It takes 3-4 years hard work,doing 'the Knowledge',going out on a Honda 90 motorbike (like the little bikes you see in Pattaya), learning the roads, routes, and 'points' (anywhere you might be asked to go, including places of interest, police stations, hospitals, stations, and so on). Then there is the mapwork, and the oral exams known as 'Appearances' before you reach the 'Req' (Requisite standard). After that you have to pass another test on routes outside London itself, mainly from different places to Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. And finally an Advanced Driving test in a Black Cab.

I did it 20 years ago. I had hoped that if I became a Cabbie I could spend my summers working in London and earn enough to spend the winter abroad, as some cabbies do. When I started the the Knowledge the economy and the cab trade was booming. Unfortunately after 3 years and 4 months, when I finally got my Badge, the economy was in recession, City firms were cutting back on expenses, tourists were using public transport instead of cabs, and I wasn't even earning enough to pay for the diesel and hire of the cab. So I had to stay in my day job.

Still it was an interesting experience and I got to know every corner of London. Most Londoners only get to know the area they live and work in.

I wasn.t arguing with you Sam. I agree with you. I was just saying that our taste in music might be due to it being the music of our youth. People who are 10 years older than us probably think that Vera Lynn was the best singer ever.

And I certainly agree about the music of today. But young people like it.

Sam I tried to get my niece to like my music. I looked after her quite a lot as she grew up as her father had died. I would have the radio tuned into Gold FM the retro music station while I was cooking/washing/ironing/cleaning and she was doing her homework.

Until one day I saw she had posted on Facebook that she had to listen to old boring music again! LOL. I gave up trying to educate her musically after that!

The younger guys at work also don't like it if I put the radio on to the Gold FM station. They like the music(?) which sounds like the needle being dragged up and down a record.

I just bought an iPod Classic last week. It's supposed to hold 2,000 songs. I've spent the last few evenings ripping my CD collection of 60's and Country&Western music and importing it onto the iPod to give me something to listen to while I'm lying round the hotel pool in los in two weeks time. Got just over 1,000 tracks copied so far.

NO it is not the reason you like 60's music. It ain't got nothing to do with re-living your youth.

50's and 60's music was simply GOOD!

My 18 year old niece certainly doesn't.

And they probably will get emotional about the music of their youth when they get older, and say they can't understand the contemporary music of the youth of the day.

I like ladies with short hair, I think it's because it became quite fashionable during my teens in the 1960's - thanks to women like Mary Quant et al. So I guess it reminds me of the distant days of my youth. It's also the reason I like 60's music.

Thanks for the info DK. I thought it was in the same Soi 10 as the hotel I will be staying in. Probably just as well it isn't or I might not have left the Soi at all!

Not too far though, and another bar to check out in 25 days time.
