  1. Took a trip over to Jomtien last night, Rompho area to be more specific. Looks like the planned redevelopment isn't going to happen as many bars and restaurants are obviously re-opening albeit with a fairly modest customer base. Took a stroll down to the beach and then up to soi 3 for my inaugural visit to Emmy's where only Teya and the cashier were present. Had one Singha and then left for Na Jomtien to check the volleyball status: no-one playing but it was busy there I can confirm.

Left for home, only to be pulled over by the Nib for a breath test at the top of the hill on Thappraya Road. Those fuckers - I haven't had one since 1980! Bit of a moment there, but was neg. With the old recipe Singha, I wouldn't have been so sure. Anyway, here's a few shots to liven up the report:

It really is a pain these days.  I was heading through Pattaya Park when I came down, so rushed for shelter under the cover of one of the big building there.  It was only when I sat down on the entrance step did I realise the whole area was covered in sticky tar.  The guys laying a new surface park the trucks there when it comes down, and the the stuff leaks from the load.  Sandals ruined and tar had splashed up on the back of my shorts and shirt :(

I also ruined my new white t-shirt riding home due to that filthy road water spraying up the back of me. Think I might have to refit the hugger if this is starting to be a thing again.

I always wear a fanny pack, with the pouch center in front. I don't know if this is the best idea, and it definitely isn't fashionable, but being the latter is usually the least of my concerns.

Many people seem to wear them slung across the shoulder like a bandolier - definitely looks a lot more trendy Might have to invest in one myself, then at least I can carry my reading glasses around!

    Finally............ the mystery becomes clear!

I prefer LBR simply because nobody jumps down your throat when you post something that doesn't jive with another posters view, or narrative. I used to be very active in the old Secrets forum (back in the noughties)but these days the only other forum I post in is PattayaTalk which is on a similar level to here.

  5. Quick installation guide (for Windows):

    https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-chrome-clean/-/archive/master/bypass-paywalls-chrome-clean-master.zip

    1. Go into Chrome settings and then into the Extension page. Enable 'developer options' at the top right.

    2. Download the zip file from the link I gave and then extract it. (right click then 'extract all' from the context menu).

    3. Go back to the Extensions page and select the 'load unpacked' button.

    4. Then browse to where your folder is, 2x click to open it, select the folder inside it and wait a few seconds for it to load.

    5. Get browsing!

  6. I've only been back here for 2 months now, and already I'm questioning the validity of my decision to do so as it certainly does seem like they're trying to kill the goose that lays the golden egg. For example, a week ago I enquired about longstay in an apartment - 6500 per month apparently. Went back yesterday just to confirm and the price has risen to 9500 (along with electric@ B10 per unit and water@ B500 a month).

WOW...Laawman, that just totally sucks.  Sorry you have to go through that maze of incompetents.  I can see that being the norm for everything associated with certifications, visa, etc.  Makes me laugh that maybe they just like playing with foreigners.  I guess its just part of the big picture.

TiT - This is Thailand. This has long been the foreigners lament! We all used to say that if it wasn't for their inefficiency then we wouldn't be able to afford to live here. Unfortunately, pricing has risen and nothing has really changed. But.........but.........we're guests in their country I hear you cry! Sure, but is this really how you treat your guests?

  9. I had to get a residence certificate as I was buying a bike. Went down with a friend on the Monday and were told too busy - come back tomorrow. B40 for parking down the shitter. Rolled in at 8:15 the next morning and got the necessary photocopies from the assisting shop there - B300. Queued up for 30 mins at stall 9 only to then be re-directed to stall 10. With 66 people in front we decided to get some brekkie from that on-site cafe whilst waiting so that was another B150. Went back in with minutes to spare only to be directed back to stall 9 again. A shorter wait with yet more photocopies and a further B300 bung for 'admin'. OK, come back after 1pm was her response. Back again later to collect the finished product and I'd finally got it sorted - but what a massive palava! The real bummer was I'd considered getting Maneerat to do it (B500) as they'd already sorted out my ret. visa, but my friend reckoned it was unnecessary as he could do it easily enough. We live and learn!

  10. The biggest problem I'm now finding is that they are getting busy to the point of having nowhere to sit when you get there - and we're not even in high season yet. This is mostly at peak times to be fair, and I can't comment on the Jomtien branch just yet.
