  1. This story is unbelievable. It will be one of the news stories of the year & even if he's found innocent, enormous damage has been done to his career.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, one of Europe's most powerful men has been charged with the rape of a hotel employee in downtown Manhattan.

One source is claiming he sodomised her, another says he grabbed her forcefully & demanded oral sex.... you can't make this stuff up.

As the head of IMF & a future candidate for the French Presidency, he carries enormous clout. It is bizarre to imagine him being taken all the way through the court process.

Does the EU stand by their man or will they disown him & leave him to his fate? The frantic calls & emails crossing the Atlantic since his arrest would make fascinating listening.

Now the conspiracy theorists will be blogging about CIA involvement. I can't see this being anything other than someone's serious lack of judgement but I am now locked into reading every twist to this amazing tale.

Once again, truth proves to be stranger than fiction.

  2. I know he does, he has toured Oz a number of times. But the crowds all want his old stuff. He can't escape his CCR roots.

And why would his fans let him. They were classic songs & everyone loved them. But John has never gained the individual status he enjoyed as the leader of CCR.

I am not really as ignorant about Mr Fogerty as you suggest, I just love winding you up. And you sure didn't let me down.

BLASPHEMER!!! Blimey, I snorted my green tea out my nostrils at that one...

  3. There was no speculation with me Packman, but I get the impression that the reply was directed my way? There was nothing naive about my thinking, ‘I stated that the mamasans/ management/ownership ‘WILL’ be taking their respective percentages, effectively robbing the girls!

Relax Unc, I wasn't directing any of my post at you, yours popped up before I added mine. Paul posted at 8.22, I started my reply shortly after, you posted at 9.20, mine arrived 13 minutes later. Between cups of tea & phone calls, I can't think about & write a post in 13 minutes. Others can, I can't.

But Pook ain’t one of them. She pulls money in hand over fist come rain or shine; she’s just another outrageously greedy Thai...

Pook has BIG FACE, she's married to a farang, she has two bars, she's HI-SO!! Everyone knows they can rip off anybody, even the police don't bother her, pay them their 'tea money' & they will leave her alone. I doubt she is making big profits at the moment but she (a Hi-So) could never allow a bargirl (a Lo-So) to make more from her bar than she does. As I wrote, she would be taking 50% at a minimum.

Worry about the places like ‘Obsessions’ with crippling ‘high end’ rents to pay & huge staff bills, but sadly with no fucker in there having a drink?

I despair for the way that Obsessions is run. The conflict between having a mongers bar where the FMs & the ex-pats can meet up for a drink & chat to the girls is completely at odds with a GoGo & its deafening music. But don't worry too much about their rent, the bar & hotel are all owned & paid for. They will survive long after all others have closed.

And I’m not in the cheap Charlie camp, by the way, if that was another indication of yours??..

Definitely not. I have no idea how you behave & I would never criticise anyone else's behaviour lightly. Unc, you sound very reactive today, I have absolutely no reason to have a go at you.

Yes, we have to carry the freight, but the Pattaya bar scene is shrinking & as the more unfortunate bars fall away things should naturally balance themselves out... There’s too much competition out there, get the bar to customer ratio right & a lot of problems will disappear

Not all problems though. The only way the girls will get by will be if tourist numbers return to a level that sees the bars, clubs & hotels busy again. And that doesn't mean substituting thousands of westerners with Indians & Russians. If that sounds racist, too bad, those guys want everything that Pattaya has to offer without spending a cent. They will never make up the slack, assuming that they even had the money in the first place.

And the other problem with the bar to customer ratio plan is, just how low will the bars cut the rate the girls get from one of these pre-paid deals. 200 baht? 100 baht? We pay the same but the poor girl becomes a sex slave.

Think it won't happen? Oh my Buddha, you have no idea what these Thais are capable of.

  4. It is never the surgeon's fault. It is idiots mauling the girl's tits before the implant has been secured by the tissue growing around them. It takes about 3 months before they aren't in danger of slipping out of place.

Of course the girls can't wait that long, they need money immediately so they have to risk it. I have seen many new sets of bolt-ons but I know not to touch them or very gently if I am invited to.

I have seen girls reduced to tears by some moron who pounced on her new chest squeezing the life out of them. This idiot was so happy, he had his Heineken, he had his smokes & he had the biggest shit-eating grin from being the first guy to cop a feel of some tits he thought he had every right to grab.

He had no idea that he had just ruined the girl's life & she now had to live with the consequences of what had happened to her. The guy on the other hand walked away thinking what a wonderful country because he knows he would be locked up if he tried that at home.

And he is no doubt one of the arseholes who posts about lousy surgery everytime he sees a titjob gone wrong. Honestly, some days I could just scream.

  5. The title to the this thread is trying too hard to gain a rise out of anyone who disagrees with the OP. Well it worked, after trying to ignore this, I feel obliged to respond.

Fogarty was good, he was very good in fact, in his day. And that was a long time ago. He is another rock music legend whose flame burnt brilliantly for a few years then he decided he was too big for his band, deserted them & faded away.

A delusional man who thought he was bigger than Hendrix but discovered he was another Jimmy Buffett or even a Don McLean with a rock edge.

He should have kept the band together, they did nothing again, Fogarty disappeared, it was such a waste. He may have recorded a few more albums but internationally, he was yesterday's man.

As for him being God, good grief, he isn't even one of the Apostles IMO.

I accept that it is none of my business what anyone wants to listen or who they should like but to start a thread like this, I assume they want other opinions. Well now you have mine.

  6. I do have a few stories that I may write about one day when I have nothing better to do. As the years pass, the stories get better too.

I tend to forget the negative parts. I think the expression is "seeing the world through rose coloured glasses". ;)

  7. Oh dear... :(

    1st, 2nd & 5th lines all rhyme in a Limerick. They should all have between 9 & 10 syllables per line. The 3rd & 4th lines should rhyme & have between 5 & 6 syllables each. It's better if 3 & 4 have an equal number of syllables. Purists like 1, 2 & 5 to match up too but that isn't as important as 3 & 4.

I bet you didn't realise that Limerick writing was such an exact science? I have written 1000's of 'em. Quite appropriate considering I am descended from Limerick in Ireland on my mother's side.

Another lot who escaped the potato famine. Thank god they did too.

  8. I agree with Willie, your writing is excellent. Though I haven't figured out if you are writing in the 3rd person or about another Ken.

I will go back & start from the beginning to find out myself. Please continue. And +1 from me too. A good story well told is such a pleasure.

  9. One way or another, the bars need to restore cashflow. They will try this, they will try anything before they have to close their doors.

There should be no surprise at this news of bars asking customers to pay set prices up front. And speculation as to whether they keep a percentage only shows how naive some are.

They would be keeping 50% as a minimum! The Thais have no history of altruism, once a Thai becomes a barowner, they become (in their mind at least) HI-SO! And Hi-So's can push the girls around all they like.

If a farang bar owner wanted to do this he would find himself in breach of his work permit (if he has one) or the conditions of his visa. One rule for them, another for us.

After successive low Low-Seasons followed by low High-Seasons, many of the bars would be at their wits end. And 100's of bars & restaurants have closed already.

If they find that people completely reject this policy, they will raise drink prices. They will do that anyway but rather more slowly. The thing I like about this policy is that the newbies will accept it & the owner will bend the rule if we don't.

I would prefer to see the status quo prevail but change is inevitable. I have been posting for years about the problem with the Cheap Charlie mentality. Someone has to carry the freight or one day we will find out what happens when no one wants to pay.

Then there won't be a problem with overpriced bars because there won't be any.

I don't like it any more than the next guy but I have been in business long enough to understand. Don't be surprised if the idea of cover charges to enter clubs, etc becomes popular too. IMO it is inevitable.

  10. Now if you and my main man Kahuna could kiss and makeup.

I have no issue with Kahuna, I met him towards the end of last year's trip at the PBG & he offered me a drink. We shared a few minutes pleasantries before he escorted his terak home. His ex-terak I read somewhere. I am sure he will find someone just as nice. If he hasn't already.

Now that PDogg on the other hand... a mean brute of a man always looking for trouble...NOT!!

How did I describe him on another forum? Less Pig Dog & more Placid Poodle...

  11. Really, we saw this one together, Paccie?

I had to pause & remember now that you ask. I only went to a couple of movies while in Pattaya last year. I know we went to one film & I know you didn't come to see the other one. Ipso facto, we must have seen Inception together.

I think I am more and more inclining to European cinema.

Me too. I have been a fan of Art House films & European cinema as long as I can remember. Everytime I see a big Hollywood production, I am reminded how lame they are. Most of them are patronising, utterly predictable & written to impress the sensibilities of the average 13 year old.

Source Code is set in Chicago, is an American production & is thoroughly entertaining. It reminds me that they can do it if they let the director make the film they want to & not the one the accountants want them to.

Cheers Pacman, your memory is better than mine ;-)

I should hope so, I have less to remember... 8P

  12. I have just been to see Source Code, a new Sci-Fi film directed by Duncan Jones. I only mention the director because he's David Bowie's boy & he has done his old man proud with this effort.

I only go to see science fiction movies when they come recommended & I did like Inception last year. I went to see it with Chinaman in Pattaya actually, not my preferred date but one of my favourite FMs.

But not to be distracted, I watched Source Code & enjoyed it far more than Inception. It has a well explained plot that moves at a good pace, it doesn't get bogged down with sentimental nonsense, it isn't predictable & has a satisfactory ending. Almost a surprise ending but now I sit & write this, no, it was definitely predictable.

You will need to see it to understand but this is a heads-up for anyone who likes a good story to consider the price of a ticket. It may go over the head of your average LB but many of them are as sharp as tacks. I wouldn't hesitate to invite one or several of them.

There's lots to like about this film, especially a very good performance from Jake Gyllenhaal. He is excellent as are the rest of the cast. As good a movie as I have seen in ages. YMMV but I am prepared to recommend it.

  13. Her weapon? Last I heard a Glock 21 with hollow nosed cartridges. A nasty combination.

Nothing too personal about that. Next question please... ^_^

  14. I agree with 90% of the spirit of your post though, I just continue to disagree with some of your conspiracy theories regarding the Fed Reserve and our fucked up banking system. It really is fucked up though, I'll give you that, and unless something REAL is done, we're heading for another melt down in the next 10-20 years.

Thank you for a balanced reply DT. I am happy with a 90% approval rating (you know what I mean). I honestly believe you will come around on your opinion of the Fed Reserve, though I have zero interest in getting into an online debate about it. Until more facts emerge, we are just banging our own drum for no gain.

I am not so familiar of the push within your education system to cleanse it of uncomfortable references to freedom fighters & civil libertarians. Though given that is one of the basic tactics employed by Totalitarian regimes to gain control of the minds of the youth, it comes as no surprise. One day they will redefine the meaning of 'democracy' so there aren't embarrassing questions asked as to why left wing thinkers have no voice in the US. But that is just idle speculation on my part so please don't take that literally.

I am disappointed to read that you consider Ron Paul a wing-nut. I know he's a bit radical but America really needs a man with the passion & courage to replace the banking system with an entirely different model. And if that means charging people with treason to stop them clogging up the courts with claim & counter-claim, then so be it. And it would take a man who would by definition be considered STARK RAVING MAD.

Whoever took on the job would be sacrificing everything (probably his life as well) to have one shot at tearing down all the rotten corrupt deals that exist between these banks. And if 100 trillion dollars of derivative deals (or is it 500 trillion?) was simply deleted with a stroke of a computer key, it would take nerves of steel to stare down the revolt that would follow. But that is what must be done & that is just for starters. So maybe a wing-nut is the man to do it.

There has to be a gold component to whatever currency comes next. That isn't just my opinion. Things like the Glass-Steagall Act don't work without it. But I don't want to get out of my depth here, this is just a hobby of mine & I don't have a Financial degree or anything. Sorely tempted to study for one though.

Here's a theory of mine (not a conspiracy theory, which are not by definition automatically wrong by the way), the day that the banking system stops because the Fed can no longer provide the major banks with the liquidity to keep trading, there will be no warning, there will no announcement..... it will just happen... BANG... just like that.

And that will be the day that the world stops. No one knows what happens next because no one can visualise it. You mention a 10 to 20 year time frame, I expect this within the next 3 to 5 years. Maybe sooner. And despite the horror scenario that it entails, I think it will be a good thing for everyone. And I don't see bankers leaping out of buildings & lynch mobs descending on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I think a lot of people will just be breathing great sighs of relief thinking "thank god that's over".

Here's a favourite quote from Thomas Jefferson:

The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin [gold and silver coins]. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.

  15. Don't stress Mr Lung, (how do you abbreviate that to something friendly? 'Lungy'?), Tomcat is no stranger to a bit of forum banter & can give it & take it with the best of them.

Until I actually met Tomcat, I wasn't sure of what sort of character I was dealing with. As always happens, he turned out to be another nice guy who didn't show any of the shit-stirring traits he might be tempted to display after a visit to the pub. He even had a little bit of class when it came to his choice of girl & venue. (I did say a little bit)

No one really knows anyone on a forum until they actually meet. Then they are usually keen to not be seen as an arsehole. In fact, most go out of their way to be downright pleasant. Quite disappointing actually.

  16. Right wing loonies have been running America for years, and look at the mess the world is in.....

america is so right wing-anyone who thinks they should have some form of medical insurance to provide cover for ALL its citizens is a .....communist.America has moved so far to the right its almost a fascist state.America treats its own people like shit. Its the only country that punishes its citizens for being poor.

Its the most fucked up country on the planet....run by the biggest warmongers...the most evil regime on the planet was the 2nd Bush regime. It fosters and permits outrages like MYLai and recently Abu Grahib prison, with a nod and a wink from the State Department.Kidnaps and tortures innocents and calls it "rendition"

The most uneducated people in the western world, the least travelled, more Christian fundamentalists there than anywhere....an electorate that can vote in retards like Bush and Palin shouldn't be allowed to vote,a biased vicious media that forbids any critiscism of Israel whatsoever, and an unquestioning unsophisticated population that permits it all.....

    here endeth the rant.....

Bloody hell!! I wonder what do-do I would be in if I had written this? I wouldn't dare post it on a public forum but I find so much I agree with here. And Willie never mentioned the Patriot Act, the most insidious piece of legislation ever designed to remove the last rights from supposedly free people. Nor did he mention the chance of Donald Trump running for President... another first-class egotistical idiot who thinks he is so smart that he can run the world.

Here in Oz we just stare in amazement & wonder when those decent Americans are going to stand up & take back their country. And to hell with the huge banks that have bankrupted the place. Shut 'em down, lock up the executives & return their financial system to something sustainable.

I was thrilled to see that Ron Paul is the current front runner for the GOP Presidential nomination. He is the only serving member of Government who gets it. He has been railing against the Federal Reserve & the role the banks have played in destroying the value of the dollar, of the housing market & of driving the world to the brink of financial destruction.

The problem he has is his age & the fact that he will face such huge forces lined up against him. The whole world will be watching & hoping.

And to Kahuna & anyone else who is offended by my post, NO, I do not hate America, I think Americans are some of the most decent people in the world. Now their governments of recent years on the other hand...
