  1. I have traveled from Canada to Thailand a number of times during 2010. For the most part I was able to get pretty good airfare deals ranging from as low as $900 to $1,500 return (inclusive of all taxes, et cetera). I suppose the average was some where around $1,200 Canadian. In planning my trips for the year 2011 I've noticed the airfares have increased across the board and there seems to be less deals available even in low season. I don't know whether to book now or wait hoping there will be forthcoming seat sales. However reduced fares may be a thing of the past. I sense the trend is for a more robust, bullish air travel industry.

    Your thoughts?

  2. On well, another sacrifice to the satisfy the penis god. Ancient myth has it that if one penis is not sacrificed every winter and summer solstice a 10 year drought of ladyboys will follow. We must look at the grand scheme of things, count our blessings and enjoy the current bounty.

  3. Interesting FB. It seems this is not restricted only to Japan.

This morning my Thai GF gave me a Valentine's gift and I had nothing to give her back (I forgot). She told me it did not matter because Valentine's Day was the time for girls to give the guys a gift of love. Then in March the guys give the girls something to express their love and appreciation. She also said the gift from the man to the woman in March must equal 3 times the value of whatever the lady gave the guy on Valentine's Day. I laughed thinking she was joking. She wasn't. Apparently this is tradition from where she comes from.

The Thai ladies sure have this shit down to a find art.

    Gotta love this country.

  4. This is not what I have been seeing in my little field. I am with my Thai girl (who is much to my junior) and I am getting the full meal deal GFE including the daily moody pouts over insignificant things. :)

During the afternoon we sit around the pool at our hotel and watch old and young farangs with their ladies of various ages and it seems the girls are giving them the full treatment also. Sure, as an objective observer we can detect trace elements of insincerity but certainly no more than usual or expected. All within acceptable levels of the GFE richter scale.

Perhaps there is more noticeable cynicism with the girls who work Little Moscow (aka Walking Street). This we can blame on the Russians for sure.

  5. History; culture; beauty of their people both physically and otherwise; weather; food; prices and availability of things; coolness of pace; view on the big picture; respect of family and people in general; and the TIT thingy which is increasingly becoming endearing and I am growing fond of.

I am sure the above appreciation comes with age. Perhaps younger folk can only relate to the stuff that attractive me in the first place. But in time that gets spent and the other qualities come into play. Ask any veteran ex-pat leaving there.

  6. As a younger person I often wondered why my parents and grandparents spoke so much to each other about the weather. It was usually one of the first things they asked about and discussed.

The older I get the more I realize weather has a tremendous bearing on my overall mood and demeanor. With each winter I tend to gripe, bitch and swear more. With each winter I say never again, this is my last one. I look at the temperatures in Thailand and ache with longing.

They say there is only two things wrong with Canada. And that is, January and February. You have to live here to appreciate that.

Today it is minus 28 centigrade for me. With the wind chill factor it is minus 40!!! For you Americans, centigrade and fahrenheit meet at minus 40. So it is fucking numbingly cold. Cars don't start and dogs refuse to leave the house to take a piss. It is baffling why anybody lives in this climate and yet millions do. It is no wonder the suicide rates increase during this time of year. On the other hand the Scandinavians seem to enjoy the long winters, short days, and cold. So what am I missing?

I am curious how weather impacts the overall well-being of others. For example can 12 months of sunshine and 25 + temperatures drive you nuts also? Can rain on the west coast of North America do it to you? What about the northern latitudes with short days, long nights for 6 months? Is there the perfect climate and if so, where?
