  1. All restaurants (except for takeout and delivery), bars, theaters and gyms are closed in my state. Fortunately I have an aerobic exercise machine in my living room. It helps with the calories from all the booze and frozen pizzas I have stuffed in my fridge.

Irish Pubs closed until the end of the month, that's St Paddy's Day knackered

And I know how much you guys love the Irish.

He was going to return to Spain but cannot as yet.

The way things are going in Spain he might be better off in China.

  3. In reality no one knows what will happen in summer and beyond. But it seems there is a decent chance the virus will be back next winter in the northern hemisphere.

I sort of wish I had stayed in Thailand given what is going on here ATM. However I have no trust the Thais actually know what is going on. They don't seem to have many deaths if they are actually reporting them/know what caused them. I came home a bit early because I was worried about possibly not being able to get back in the US. Now I'm not so happy to be here. And the prospect of a water less Songkran sounds pretty good (if that is still being planned).

I have a trip booked in January 2021. I'm hoping there will be some kind of medical break though before then although I know that is a short amount of time for a medical solution. On the hopeful side there has been a lot of research done on previous viruses that might help speed up things. I haven't missed a winter trip to Thailand in 14 years. So here is hoping.

    Apparently COVID-19 isn't feasible over 25 degrees C

A lot of sources don't agree with that. There has been community spread in the Philippines. I don't see a lot of good data on Australia but apparently Tom Hanks caught it there and it's summer. But I have no idea who is spreading it to whom.

  5. I've already booked a miles flight for next January. Worst case canceling will cost US$125. If corona is back next winter canceling will likely cost nothing.

I'm not sure how it works in the rest of the world but booking a flight a few days before the actual flight date in the US usually means the flight will cost at least twice as much as an early booked flight if not more.

Yeah, I don’t get the toilet paper thing. I went to the market only for food items.

I went to a Walmart store, Target and then a different Walmart store yesterday. The second Walmart store I went to had a few four packs of generic Walmart TP. The generic TP is actually much better than I envisioned for a generic. There were about seven four packs and I bought one and left the rest for others (I was out). The rest disappeared in minutes. I also have a Thai style bum gun but don't always use it here. I'll mostly spare you the story about a previous setup I had that sprung a leak in my home bathroom that doesn't have a floor drain like the bathrooms in Thailand (I didn't see a swimming emoji here). So my new setup is something that isn't always hooked up but I can do so easily.  It's all a bit crazy but when the US finally gets a decent amount of testing, and real results, hoarding will probably get worse.

Some one told me in an emergency (or pseudo emergency) the first things that get sold out are TP, bottled water and batteries.

It will get worse before it gets better. The way the market is tanking does NOT say you will be buying on the cheap for the future. It’s not saying that at all. I think it’s saying the opposite.

I am not saying it’s correct. But let’s see where it is in two years.

Hell I agreed with you for a change. I mean cheaper in the near future. And if you miss the bottom by a bit who cares. Calling a market bottom is a fool's errand.

i have a feeling the same thing can and might happen 18 months from now.

Hell I'll almost guarantee if you by quality companies now in 18 months you will be ahead. Unless CLOVID-19 comes back for round two next winter. Then you might have to wait another year.  And if the spread gets worse, as it probably will now that we are actually starting to test in the US, you will have a chance to buy them cheaper. But when to buy is always a dilemma in volatile conditions unless you have mucho capitol. Warren Buffet was buying last week.

Major league baseball just suspended all operations

MLB moved the start of the season (originally March 26) back two weeks and canceled spring training. But that might not help much.

The PGA golf tour, the last sport still going?, is playing with no fans in attendance. But when one of them tests positive that will likely end also?

The Golden State Warriors (US pro basketball) will have no fans at their home games for at least the next two weeks

Things changing fast here tonight. The NBA (pro basketball) is suspending their season after tonight. One of the players tested positive for the virus.

Hopefully this thing will be like seasonal flu and die down in the summer. But no one knows yet. But it will probably be back next fall (US CDC).

How many of you guys have  been tested  if ever ?

I get tested every year 90 days after I come back from my Pattaya winter trip.

Do they use those little white plastic rectangle testers where you put in a drop of blood or something better?

  12. The Golden State Warriors (US pro basketball) will have no fans at their home games for at least the next two weeks (jinx I owe you a Coke). Just a California ban not a national ban. So far pro sports and many college sport have been playing as usual. That will probably come to a halt soon.

Its crazy!  Its scary!  Was it Baron Von Rothschild who said "the time to buy is when there is blood in the streets!"  I know JP Morgan said it as well. I know I am living in a bit of a bubble here in Bangkok (for the next week or so anyway) but this strikes me as a totally hysterical panic.

Lots of instability especially in the oil markets.  The Saudis are looking to rip out Russian throats.  Huge problem for the Russians.  The Saudi can turn on the faucet almost indefinitely.  Its costs getting it out of the ground are next to nothing.  this is dysfunctional and probably a total over reaction.

I could understand it better if hordes were dropping like flies due to this CoronaVirus but its not like that, is it?

Also I dont understand why gold isnt way up.  It should be.

The DOW fell 2013 points. The selloff greatly influenced, as you mentioned, buy the Russia/Saudi oil feud. Oil dropped into the lower US$30/barrel and all oil stocks went way down. The small oil producers saw many of their stocks drop 40% today. Really shitty timing with everything else going on. The problem with Corona is no one knows what will happen. Markets really hate that. Gold is at the highest level since January 2013. Up 50% since it's low in late 2015 and about US$150 off the all time high.

One of my pet peeves about Pattaya and Thailand in general are the nasty community cloth hand towels in almost every wash room, especially in LB bar loos.

I have many kebabs while in Pattaya and they are rolled up by bare hands. Much street food is prepared by bare hands. There are so many bad hygiene possibilities in Pattaya. Perhaps Pattaya is aided by warm weather? Well from corona not salmonella...  I have licked a pussy or two (OK more) at Kink.

Sorry a slight venture off topic. This winter was the first time the Listerine I buy in Thailand had a child proof cap. I had to show a few LBs how to open the bottle...

  15. The US had it's first community case yesterday in northern California. That means It couldn't be tracked back to someone that traveled overseas, etc and they don't know where it came from. They had that person in a hospital for several days before testing them for COVID-19. Seems all of California has only a few hundred test kits and this case didn't meet strict federal government rules for doing a test.

  16. China is a much bigger parts supplier and consumer than it was in the SARS era. And they are still mostly shut down. Despite how much we poke fun at the Chinese there is an active market there for high end/luxury products. 10% of Apple's sales are in China. I've been watching CNBC off and all day. The big US shipping container ports are expecting a slowdown soon. It take something like 30 days for a container to get from China to Charleston, South Carolina so they really haven't seen the slow down yet. But expect it soon which will cause some parts shortages.

But now Europe is becoming a concern with three? new countries (Spain, Switzerland and Germany) reporting at least one case. The US still claims they have it under control. But who knows so now we get to see the stock market go nuts. Even if it had been contained in China that would still be a problem for the world economy as many countries are (IMO) overly dependent on China production.

The US CDC today changed their US warning alert level higher.
