  1. A 45 year old sells all his stuff and then has a life savings of $30,000.

In my line of work i see a lot of personal profiles.... His position in life is not that unusual i can assure you.

His naivety is the sad part, not his financial net worth before he was scammed.

  2. Seems more and more guys are just bringing a lump of cash for the duration of a trip now.

All good as long as you have a Thai bank account to dump it in for safekeeping - Hotels safe are not ideal to say the least.

As Rx mentioned, i was using a loaded up credit card that provided wholesale exchange rates and zero fees. AEON ATM served me well for zero thai fees.

Was saving me about $50 for every $1000 i withdrew. 1500 baht saved - more bang for your buck - so to speak. :hi:

Of course the "banks" like to close all the loopholes. <_<

I'm did a few checks her in Oz and came up with the Citiplus savings account. Not sure whats available in you neck of the woods, but this accounts offers wholesale exchange rates and zero fees at Citi ATM's worldwide.

Lord Buddha, in his kind ways, has offered myself the Citi branch next to Soi Cowboy in BKK and, on my far affield adventures, he has ensured an ATM is only a liesurely 10 min stroll from Walking Street in Angeles City (nearby the casino). :drinks:

Incidently, the Citi ATMs in Phillipines allows a higher per transaction withdrawal than the other banks which seems to max out around 10000 peso.

  3. Great pics and great reports, Dave. Very timely, too, as my girl and I will be going there next Tuesday, for 6 nights. Staying at Le Soleil in Zone 2. 23K THB/6 nights, breakfast included.

Info on Ariel Point was great. Hadn't considered it, but now it's a must do.

Also, useful info on Caticlan to accommodations. Was the price you quoted for 2 or per person? Now that you have some experience, would you use the same service or is there a less pricey route?

Its actually an easy walk from caticlan airport to the boat area but 1st time you are probably better off taking DD advice.

  4. They can keep coming across to Los but ill keep going back to PI.

Love the raw feel of Pi compared to Los. Los has become too developed/conventional... Its lost its edge in many ways.

I ran into Alex last april at Darkside. Fun lady and she weaves her spell very well. Real language skills is clearly a winner for her in Los.

I spoke a few words of tagalog to her and she seemed to go up a notch.

Good luck to our pi ladies i say... Just a shame a sustainable bar/club scene cant be established over in Pi.

  5. We really do have it quite good!   :yahoo:

But I think the Thai middle class is catching up.  Almost any Thai I meet has a nicer phone than me.

I call it the phone standard... I noticed the decline in attitude in LOS when the technology the locals used caught up with the west.

PI behind recently but i noticed the proliferation of large screen smart phones on my april trip recently.... Worrying signs !!

  6. Fantastic photos Duke, compliments :)

I've never been to Boracay but your photos do tempt me. I did enjoy the beaches of Bohol, a small island of the city of Tagbilarin with many beaches. I think its called Pangdan Island or something.

Attached is a pic of Blue Rock floating bar at Subic Bay. Sure is relaxing to swill a few SM Lights and listen to the sweet sing song voices of the Filipinas :)

I think you may be referring to Panglao island.

Quite an enjoyable spot to consume 35 peso SML. :drinks:

  7. The doll house group in angeles has a new hotel called Score Birds. Location in vian street, same as pacific breeze, and parallel to walking street.

All their clubs will be having the pool parties at this venue going forward.

I was at their grand opening party... Some nice ladies indeed. You can find the video on you tube easily enough.

    http://www.scorebirds-ac.com

The rooms at the new hotel have great beds and the king deluxe seems to be the best value.

Already looking forward to Jan 2015!!

  8. Well... i find the squatting method, albeit uncomfortable, allows better throughput shall we say :db:

I'm guessing the throne, which we western folk take for granted, is somewhat unfamiliar and unnatural to our asian friends.

On a similar topic, i had an emergency in KL once and only found those asian toilets available. I'll leave the rest to your imagination <_<

  9. Thai authorities obviously didn't prevent these illegal passports to be used on international flights.

Fuckin monkeys. They can't get anything right.

    Poor call Seven.

The passports were registered on the interpol database (so i read) and i would assume its up to the persons own country to list passport as lost/stolen.

How the parties got though passport control at KLIA is the issue!!

And this could be nothing... or could be everything... only time will tell.
