  1. Promotions, cat-calling, running out and grabbing my arm or blocking my path (pre-covid) are things which would never entice me to enter a bar I've never been in before. Yes, I may well miss out on some things but I don't care. I don't like to feel that I've been coerced or cajoled. If something is new to me I prefer to make the decision to partake by myself or with friends. Any of the afore-mentioned more often than not have a negative effect on me and I'll pass. Personal recommendations are always best.

In terms of bars, clubs and restaurants I tend to think people, particularly expats and regular visitors, already know where they are going and have their destination in mind when out and about. I know I do.  If something looks enticing it will perhaps be filed away for another time as when you're out you're already en route to a pre-determined destination.

  2. The whole world has been put back several years, but in Thailand's case it is seemingly more with such a reliance on tourism. Stubbornly refusing to devalue the baht can only go on so long as they have no tools left in the toolbox unless they go for zero interest rates. Negative interest rates are for losers.

Tourists don't give a shit about a country's interest rates, they focus exclusively on exchange rates. Interest rates are for locals.

    Quote

Thailand recorded no foreign tourist arrivals or receipts for a second straight month in May

We can add June and all of July, plus several more months before tourists beyond any other Asian countries are allowed into their bubble.

This face-saving bullshit could well end up biting them harder in the backside than is truly necessary. Wiping some  painted smiles off a few of those smug high ranking faces wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Does the Thai bank ever tack on any fees or is the baht amount shown on Transferwise the exact amount that you receive?

In my case transferring GBP from Transferwise to my Bangkok Bank account the cost shown on their website prior to sending is precisely what I pay. No hidden charges or fees, no additional charges at the Thai bank end. I've done more transfers with Transferwise than I care to remember and it is always clear and transparent. What you see is what you pay and it explains the fees and shows them, included in your cost.

The funds from Transferwise are sent from a source the same as the destination, if i recall correctly.  Also, when sending money to Transferwise from a UK bank account they are sent to a UK bank account, so no international fees or extra charges anywhere at either end. I believe they do similar with AU$ and USD, but not every currency. Probably Euros as well.

I have been nothing but impressed with Transferwise from the moment I set up my account long ago. Their SMS to my Thai phone for secure login is always reliable and prompt, too.

Thanks, PD.  I thought it might be but wasn't sure.

I stopped reading the news weeks ago.

I'll nip out to 7-11 now then, not enough milk and eggs for my brekkie.

  6. With all this lovely 'me' time I've lost track of what's happening outside in that filthy virus-ridden real world.  The important things get washed aside by copy/pasted sensationalistic news and tedious youtube videos.

What are the current curfew times in Thailand?  :Monkey:

I don't like to rush anywhere.

Can you really post good news about Covid here? !!!!!

They (whoever 'they' are) said that subsequent waves of the virus will likely be weaker than the first as many of those exposed to the first have died, leaving less carriers of the nasty variety to share with the rest of us.

Perhaps it's time to break out Kool & The Gang  ..  Cel-e-brate good times .. Come on!

  8. Life has returned to normal, at least for me. But it's even better than before. We now have table spacing.

I had my first sit-down Sunday dinner with all the trimmings this afternoon. My first cruciferous vegetables for 6 weeks.  Nicky's had been closed for well over a month and I got my last Sunday dinner prior to closure as a take-away on their last open day, Sunday, March 29th.

It's been open almost a week already, but this is the first Sunday. Last week from 8am to 6pm, but since Friday it's been 8am - 8pm .. Yeehaa! :yahoo:

    p.s. closed on Tuesdays.

Now that is proper news!  :Monkey:

  9. I wrote this about Poppy 7 years ago. The sensation at Sensations Bar, back in the day.

I'll let her stroke my puppy if she says that I'm her pappy
I must be very fast because she's cute and barfines snappy
and if she lets me buy her drink I'll be a happy chappie
and if she says she'll go with me she'll make her pappy happy

I sit and drink Sensations Bar but there's no sign of Poppy
    I came for her and no-one else I can't accept a copy
I've sat too long my boner's gone it's flacid and it's floppy
I'm old and fat I'm going home the girls say that I'm sloppy

it's raining now I'm walking back I'm damp and feeling drippy
the road is wet I nearly fell it's dangerous and slippy
then on a bike I see her pass so confident and nippy
she smiled at me it made my day rain glinted off her lippy

I turned around I'm going back to get my taste of honey
the girls see me all soaking wet and laugh and think it's funny
but Poppy comes and sits with me and helps me spend my money
so never mind it's raining because Poppy makes it sunny

  10. Ahh, The-Sith. I've previously had the pleasure of meeting The-Sith, perhaps he doesn't remember. It was a show night at KrUs sometime last year. I can even remember his first name, too, so he must've made an impression. Nice chap, as I recall.

There was a time when I thought Rom and The-Sith were perhaps one and the same, but that was a long while ago. Despite what Rom may think, especially if he remembers my one-time post on a thread of his over on the other forum some years ago, I have no problem with either the man or his club here. In fact, Rom's sketches are incredibly good. I just wish there were more of them.

The-Sith is much younger than me, quite handsome, and friendly and sociable to boot. Rather like myself 15 to 20 years ago. Now I'm just a no nonsense grumpy old phart with a pot. So I'll step back and clear the way for you young'uns to carry on.

    As you were  :Monkey:

Vlogger club ..  great idea for such as me who is totally uninterested what vloggers say when constantly walking down soi buck gazing adoringly into the camera.

Yes, the art of suggestion and subtle persuasion is delightful, especially when the subject doesn't even realise it has happened

It is pleasing when a needed change comes to fruition and in this case this forum can now be cleansed by using a carefully curated 'Recent Activity' set which Admin kindly created for those not needing to live through others or requiring a daily dose of inane youtube guff.

I'm sure Admin won't mind me sharing for the benefit of fellow forum users, so here it is;  http://www.ladyboyreview.com/index.php?/discover/51/

This is now my much improved new forum normal :hi:

  12. As another prolific forum poster acquires further abilities in the copy/paste/regurgitate department I can only hope these 'skills' are put to good use.

As per the well thought out title of this thread, there's yet another 'state of emergency' again tonight at midnight, as there has been on the strike of midnight every night since 25th March. According to, at least at the time, the novice copy/paster/regurgitator's thread topic title.

Bear in mind the high level of competition that already exists, albeit negligible in ability, where you can find a ".. carefully curated selection of Videos" provided by the resident automaton who blindly copy/pastes and relentlessly regurgitates the contents of his youtube subscriptions for our daily delectation and endless enjoyment.

I'm so excited to learn what the future holds and what may become the new forum normal  :Monkey:

The baht that you give to your ladyboy de jour as she leaves your room is not reflected in Thailand's official GDP so I think the real number is higher.  25%?  30%?

I'd say it is even higher than that.

The impact of unregistered and unrecognised tourism and leisure related activities for tourists goes well beyond any statistics Thailand, or anyone else, is able to offer. During this mandaory lockdown and closure of borders may reveal what is closer to the reality.

The trickle-down effect from the lack of money generated by tourism will be felt by even the most remote of rural dwellings.

Apologies for not communicating via the medium of youtube, or a copy/pasted link.

ha! you can hoover me if you want to!

.. And the above posted in Thai Vloggers within your brand new shiny Duke's Vloggers Club.

No need to be so bashful. You know it makes sense

Hope you enjoy your newly created Duke's Vloggers Club, as I suggested.  No need to thank me. All part of the service  :Monkey:

.. But the real thanks should go to the mods here for hiding posts, reshuffling threads and implementing my suggestion so fast.

    Great job! :hi:

For historical purposes, future generations, and covid-19 survivers, this thread used to be the 'Thai Vloggers' thread (started by duke007 back in September 2019). Its contents were used to create a thread in the newly implemented Duke's Vloggers Club, also called Thai Vloggers which, following my suggestion (now the opening post in this thread), can be found here:  http://www.ladyboyreview.com/index.php?/forum/206-thailand-vlogs/

Much better to have all duke007's glorious unoriginal copy/pasted content gathered together in one handy and convenient location. More easily avoided.

Our newest Club is Duke's Vloggers a carefully curated selection of Videos mostly about Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

    Some people just need guidance.

Glad to be of service to the LBR community.

Will this club include 'Amazing Benidorm', too?

  16. If governments cared so much about the welfare and lives of their citizens ..

Why have they never lowered the speed limits on their roads to avoid the many deaths which will inevitably occur?
Why allow people to live in towns and villages at the foot of live volcanoes?
Why allow people to live in areas with natural fault lines and regular earthquakes?
Why does Thailand care so much about corona but not the deaths during Songkran? - 297 people die in five days of Songkran festival (reported 16th April 2019)

Risks occur daily in all of our lives, even simply crossing the road. To reduce risk to almost zero, stay at home. Allow me my own choices.

I think Sweden are very brave (when compared to the rest of the world) and should be applauded for going a different way.  Swedes are still living a pretty close to normal existence while the rest of the world hunkers down and denies basic freedoms by law enforcement which will likely cause future damage for potentially a generation.

I couldn't find a youtube video to say what I wanted, so I said it myself.

  17. How about a YouTube Forum Club here at LBR where all these youtube posts and associated copy/pasted guff from the internet can be posted.

Many know of these channels already and would subscribe on youtube if they were interested, but don't. With the YT Fanboy Club the copy/pasters can post away to their and other fanboys heart's content and leave others who find this all very tedious in peace and quiet to enjoy an uncluttered, mellow, spam-free and more worthy 'View New Content' listing experience by choosing not to subscribe to it. It won't affect your post count, if that's important to you.

Just a thought. IMHO, amigis. Happy lockdown

  18. Yeah, those checkpoints really are a nuisance. Get rid of them.

Just like those Thais who returned to Thailand and landed after curfew hours had begun. Inconvenient, they didn't like the new law so created a fuss and buggered off home. Yes, I know they're being rounded up but it is the Thai mentality. If a law is inconvenient, disruptive, or it just spoils their fun then they don't want to abide by it.

Somchai: Must remember to wear facemask on the motorbike, the cat's sleeping in my helmet and a helmet doesn't matter anyway. Flip-flops, shorts, t-shirt, facemask.. safety check complete!  Now ready to burn rubber and safely rock those highways.

  19. Travel and tourism is massive for some countries as it is pretty much all they have.  Over restrict and it'd be a trip back to the dark ages for some.

A population up-blip will likely show in the future from these times, despite corona related deaths, as many lives have been saved through non-accidents which would otherwise have happened while everyone's confined or have retricted movement.

I'm still in Pattaya. Afterall, it is currently my home. My annual trip home to the UK didn't happen, for obvious reasons.

Yesterday, with the limited options for food being available due to many restaurants being closed I was thinking what I might have to eat. I could murder a Chinese.

Chow Soy it was. Pork curry, rice and chips to go.

Give it a few more months and I'll be looking like a fat version of Tom Hanks in Castaway, hopefully minus corona.

    - apparently all farangs have money (but not this one!)

I would say that for the majority of farang who've already made the decision to live / move / retire to Thailand that is the case, in varying degrees. Something they will all likely share is/was the ability to create a nest egg with income. A perpetual money-stream or sufficient built-up and invested without the necessity to work again.

The 'living for today, tomorrow will take care of itself' policy most Thais live by is perhaps turning on them now and many, if not the vast majority, will get bitten on the backside sooner or later for sucking the life out of that sorry mantra. It is only going to get worse before it gets better.  Resentment from those not under-the-wing of a financially savvy farang will increase. Blame poor education and stupidity.

The best thing farang in Thailand can do right now and for the foreseable is not to display unecessary signs of wealth. To Thais, a farang simply living in their country and seemingly doing nothing all day yet happily paying for rent and food without a worry in the world is already rich, so plenty enough for resentment to begin.

Despite this, there are some farang among us who don't know when to shut-the-fuck up and stop displaying unnecessary signs of apparent wealth. Bragging about their life upgrades and consumer items and the other useless things they enjoy spending their money on. It just makes them stand out as a bigger wanker than they most likely already are. Thais are not blind, they will notice all these things, too.

A curfew is annoying and confining, but in the long run could well be something which prevents someone getting robbed late at night on one of those usually busy streets.  Thailand is a very safe country in terms of physical attacks and street crime. Most is done by stealth and the victim unaware until later. But these are unprecedented times and desperation levels are at the foot of a steep upcoming incline.

    Be safe and smart.
