I came in yesterday via Suvarnabhumi as per usual, got to the immigration desk and was very surprised when the officer first checked my entire passport and then called over her superviser who whisked me away to talk to, not an immigration officer, but an army officer. He was clearly unhappy with how I had been staying in Thailand. The issue appears to have been that my stays were all within the 28 days allowed, I then left the country for 17 or so days and came back in for a further 28 days. At no time had I overstayed the 28 days but this is now seen as a blatent attempt to avoid getting a visa. I turned on the smooth persona and was allowed in this time but with the clear instruction that I was not to return without a visa, otherwise I would not be allowed in. It was entirely within the officer's remit to refuse me entry this time and it was clear that he would have done so if I had given him any reason. So, for any BMs who do as I do - come in for 28 days, leave again for what I considered to be a reasonable period and come back for a 28 day stay - it might be worth getting a visa! I had entered for one day in early September just to change airports to fly to Malaysia and had no problem at all getting in. Either I picked a bad day yesterday or they are beginning to tighten up considerably before the next high season.
