  1. Pdoggg suggested I start a thread about exchange rates when bringing cash or using ATMs in LOS/SE Asia. I was debating whether to bring cash into Thailand vs. using my ATM once I arrive for my upcoming trip.

You get the best bang for your buck by bringing cash and having it converted to Baht at the best money exchange merchants. But you have to bring clean and crisp bills in large denominations to get the best exchange rate, and you run the risk of losing a lot of money--and ruining your vacation--by traveling with a large amount of cash and having it in your room.

With ATMs, you pay the ATM fee for each withdrawal ($5.00 US ?), the exchange rate is not as good as what you'd get at an exchange merchant, and you pay a 1% to 3% international transaction commission (or whatever it's called), depending on your bank's fees.

Being from the USA, the best option for me is to use my ATM because my bank, Charles Schwab, has very favorable international banking fees. It refunds all ATM fees worldwide and it charges a low commission of 1%. To open a checking account with Charles Schwab you also have to open a brokerage account, but there is no minimum balance requirement. Charles Schwab is a great bank for an international traveler. I have two other accounts connected to my Schwab account and transfer funds into it as needed. Sure, I could save maybe a few thousand Baht if I brought cash, but for me that's not worth the hassle and risk of traveling with a large amount of cash.

What do you guys do? Do you know any tips or tricks to getting good exchange rates? Can you recommend a good bank from your home country?

Feel free to correct or expand on anything I've written. I am by no means an expert on this stuff.

Note to Mods: Feel free to move this thread or change the title if you wish.

  2. As far as my interest in the third sex goes, they first came to may attention as a teenager, in the back page advertisements of Hustler. I spent many an hour as a young lad in the bathroom spanking my monkey to the pages of Hustler, and occasionally I would pull one out whist examining the shemale ads. My Catholic upbringing made me feel like a very naughty boy. But that made it all the more exciting. As Luis Bunuel said, "Sex without sin is like cooking an egg without salt. Sin gives more chances to desire."

  3. Do they do facial shaves?

Indeed they do. The price is $4. There's a price list for salon services on their website. I didn't get a shave but judging by the skill and precision Sop demonstrated whilst cutting my hair I'd say you would be in good hands. I may go back for a shave in a few days. Will let you know how it goes if I do. I can tell you that Sop has a marvelous ass, but it might not be available as I got the impression that he and Javier are a couple.

  4. On pdoggg's recommendation, I paid a visit to Space Hair Salon & Bar for a drink a few nights ago. I enjoyed the place and would gladly go back for a drink or two. I didn't fancy any of the 6 gay boys who were there, but alas I am not that gay. Tiara accompanied me, which caused a minor fuss and some squeals of delight from a few of the gay boys. I met the co-owners--Javier (40ish Spaniard) and Sopheap "Sop" Chuk (30ish Khmer). They seemed like very nice fellows. The staff were attentive and pleasant. My only complaint is that it's a bit cramped with small tables and uncomfortable chairs.

I went back for a haircut yesterday. Sop did a great job. I'm quite happy with my haircut. And it cost a reasonable $7.

  7. Wheels up for me in about six hours. I am flying with Eva Air from Seattle to Taipei and connecting to Phnom Penh. I will be there for two weeks and then on to LOS. I will do my best to post updates on what's happening. Pdogg and premier gave me a list of bars and ladies to investigate.
