  1.  Would never happen because the Thai banks don't want to miss out on their rip off fees on foreign cards.

For New Year's from December 31st to January 4th there will be no fees for interregional (Bangkok and Pattaya are different regions) and interbank (among banks in Thailand) withdrawal from ATMs.

The 150-180 baht charges for using foreign cards will still be in effect.

  2. Tourists planning a visit to Thailand can now avail of a special online insurance coverage scheme known as the “Thailand Travel Shield”, which will be set up by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in cooperation with four reputed Thai insurance companies, Muang Thai Insurance, Chao Phaya Insurance, Siam City Insurance, and Krungthai Panich Insurance. All are reputable, publicly-listed companies.

Effective July 25, 2014, visitors will be able to buy the insurance coverage online for a broad range of unforeseen events ranging from accidents, trip cancellation, loss or damage of baggage / personal belongings, emergency hotel accommodation, etc.

These travel insurance policies provide instant coverage up to the value of 1,000,000 Baht for the packages starting at 650 Baht, and up to the value of 2,000,000 Baht for the packages starting at 1,100 Baht. The period of coverage ranges up to 60 days, but it can also cover visitors making annual trips to Thailand.

The scheme will be publicised worldwide by TAT through its international offices, as well as marketed online through website: www.tourismthailand.org/thailandtravelshield

tourist-insurance_6TAT Governor Thawatchai Arunyik said, “TAT has initiated the creation of an alternative insurance scheme that could be offered by Thai companies. We are now happy to report that such a scheme has now been set in place. This is to ensure that travellers enjoy their visit to the kingdom with great peace of mind, knowing that should anything go wrong, they’ll be covered.”

In addition, everyone purchasing this insurance can take advantage of the 24-hour emergency assistance offered by the well-known Allianz Global Assistance.

The Medical and Travel Assistance Services will allow visitors to get pre-trip information; such as, inoculation, weather, exchange rates, telephone medical advice, medical service provider referral, assistance in case of loss of luggage/passport assistance, and embassy referral.

Visitors availing of the scheme are also advised to read the fine print to see what is excluded from the coverage; such as, accidents while under the influence of alcohol, indulging in extreme sports, motorcycle riding, getting involved in public brawls, etc.

MANILA--Millions are in the potential path of a powerful storm that could batter the central Philippines, an area that has yet to fully recover from past disasters.

Already with gusts clocked at 210 kilometers per hour, typhoon Hagupit—Filipino for lash—is expected to intensify before it makes landfall in the central Philippines on Saturday, according to the weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration, or Pagasa.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that if Hagupit continues on its projected track, an estimated 4.5 million people will be within a 65-kilometer radius of damaging winds.

Hagupit, locally known as Ruby, is expected to broadly follow the path of Haiyan, the supertyphoon that last year claimed more than 6,300 lives and cost the economy around $12 billion in damages. Hagupit isn’t expected to be as strong as Haiyan, which whipped over 300-kilometer-per-hour winds that stoked 6-meter high storm surges, but will still be capable of uprooting trees, blowing roofs off houses and whipping up storm surges.

    The author said,

‘I badly wanted to live in Thailand, and spent more than three years in and around Bangkok. Unlike many expatriates and tourists, I spent a lot of time with the Thais themselves.

‘Having spent so much time with them, I finally began to understand how they thought; and to understand that they actively dislike foreigners, have no compunction in robbing them, and that their cultural distaste for foreigners and ultra-nationalistic pride in their own country fuels and justifies the crimes against tourists.'

He added: ‘Unfortunately, with millions of tourists besieging the country, the locals’ response to foreigners has gone from curiosity to contempt.

    2 ladies vs 2 ladies,

    We saw Thailand defeat Germany.

    Admission is free.

Beer Chang, a corporate sponsor was selling cans for 40 baht.

    Comfortable seating; not many spectators.

    Group divisions ended today,

    Knockout begins tomorrow.

Think it will be all day Friday and Saturday.

Final on Sunday is in the late afternoon and Sunday seems to have a light schedule.

Highlight for me was when one of the Eurobabe competitors looking at the results board rubbed against me and got her sweat all over me.

OK, they don't have cocks but they are tall and look more like ladyboys than female tennis players.

It's between PattayaKlang and Soi6. I know u can enter from Beach Road and you can enter from 2nd Road also.

24 countries, cheer on for your favorite.

Check it out.  And afterwards Soi 6 is just a few minutes walk away.

  6. Came across this article today about trafficed Laotian sex workers in Thailand.

The article states that the majority of sex workers in Thailand are from neighboring countries.

Pattaya sex workers seem to be at least 90% Thai so this would suggest a huge P4P scene with Thais paying.

Maybe Thai ladies are embarrased to have Thai customers?

Maybe Thai ladies hope to find husbands in Pattaya?

Maybe Thais won't prostitute themselves for 200 baht?

Or maybe Thais like to make believe all the bad apples are foreigners?

Laotian Women Rescued From Thai 'Karaoke' Brothels

NAKHON PATHOM — Police say they have rescued 23 young Thai and Laotian women who were allegedly being helped captive in a karaoke shop in central Nakhon Pathom where they were forced into prostitution.

Anti-human trafficking police organized the raid following a tip off from an NGO worker who received a text message from one of the women seeking help. Sixteen of the victims are under the age of 18, police say.

One of the victims told police she came to Nakhon Pathom several months ago after a Thai dealer offered her a job at Nong Fuse karaoke bar, where she was told she would earn more money than she did in Laos.

However, the woman said that she has been forced to sleep with customers and is only earning around 200 baht of the 1,000 baht each client is charged.

According to police, no arrests have been made yet as the karaoke bar’s owners appear to have fled the premises before the raid.

The victims are now staying at a state-run shelter home for mental and physical recovery, a police officer said.

On the same day, police also raided a brothel in Udon Thani and rescued four Laotian women, thanks to a tip off from another NGO organisation. A woman has been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and running a prostitution ring.

Thailand is a major source, transit, and destination for sex trafficking. The majority of sex workers in Thailand are foreigners from neighboring countries and more than two thirds of them are under the age of 18.

    Editorial
Time to sober up, Koh Pha-ngan The full moon parties draw hundreds of thousands to Thailand each year, but dangers are growing for locals and visitors alike
Today brings the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar, celebrated around the country as Loy Krathong. As Thais mark the occasion by releasing krathong (floats) on water and kom loy (candlelit lanterns) into the air, thousands of tourists from around the world will tonight gather on Koh Pha-ngan in the Gulf of Thailand for a "full-moon party".

The world-famous dance festival has been held on Haad Rin Beach every month at full moon for more than three decades. The parties attract hundreds of thousands of revellers each year and have spawned gatherings at other locations on Koh Pha-ngan throughout the month.

However, Surat Thani Governor Chatpong Chatraphuti recently ordered authorities to ban public parties at any location except Haad Rin Beach. He cited the need to prevent crime and vice. His order comes at a time when Thailand's tourism industry and image abroad are still reeling from the killings of two British tourists on neighbouring Koh Tao.

The governor's decree is bad news for many local businesses and also for the tourists lured by the Koh Pha-ngan's reputation as a party island. Some local business operators said the ban would hit them in the pocket, though they didn't expect the impact to be severe.

However, others voiced support for the governor's decision. In a recent survey of local residents, about 70 per cent of respondents were against the proliferation of parties on the island. Before the order was issued, entrepreneurs were staging parties on the island at least 22 days per month.

Locals and visitors were complaining about the noise. Tourists who had come to the island to relax in a serene environment were being driven away by the booming beat deep into the night.

Suwit Phongsri, leader of Koh Pha-ngan's Cultural Council, said parties were being organised close to temples and communities. Daily life was disturbed by the sight of drunken tourists lying unconscious and sometimes naked in public after a long night of boozing. Such scenes greeted children on their way to school and Buddhist monks on their morning alms rounds.

The public drunkenness also places the tourists involved in

danger, making them more vulnerable to attack by criminals.

Tourism is certainly a huge source of income for Koh Pha-ngan. Last year the island welcomed more than 727,000 visitors, an increase of 36 per cent on the previous year. More than 618,000 last year were foreigners, swelling the income of local businesses.

However, the island's popularity rests on more than just its reputation as a party venue. Its beautiful beaches, pristine rainforest and tranquil Buddhist temples are a magnet for tourists.

Should party culture be allowed to shatter the serenity of those scenes, Koh Pha-ngan will lose much of its allure.

Instead, the island must strike a balance that meets the needs of all tourists and conserves the peaceful daily life of residents. Businesspeople eager to make a fast buck from tourists will only scare them away in the long run.

As hosts, the authorities and citizens share a duty to ensure visitors' safety during their stay. Meanwhile party-goers must be alerted to the potential dangers of becoming intoxicated to the point where they become prey to petty thieves or more dangerous criminals.

  8.

So, guys, what do you think?

    Since you're asking.....

From my perspective, I don't like it if a bar is dominated by a pool table.

Actually I prefer if there's no pool table even if it's a big bar.

But I'm far from a typical customer and I don't go out much to bars anyway.

From the bar's perspective, I have no idea if the revenue from a pool table justifies the floor space or not.

  9. My typical meal is 30-40 baht so I won't have much to contribute to this thread but just heard about the most unusual dining experience this side of Hannibal Lechter.

Tokyo Kids is a sushi/sashimi place in Jomtien where you eat off of a naked girl's body.

Pricey at 3000 baht per person but might appeal to some of you bell ringers.

  10. Club 4

Taleung and I were walking off the beaten track and discovered an unusual joint named Club 4.

The good news is all the girls wear skimpy bottoms and no panties.  The bad news it's all pussy, all the time, so there's no swinging dicks to amuse yourself with.

The girls all seem to have good attitudes and are attractive enough though many seemed to have an extra 5 kilos.

You need to ring a buzzer to get in and when you enter the room you see seating that's more like beds than sofas.  In the back there's a more conventional bar.

Leo is 70 baht.  Ladydrinks are 130 baht.

Barfine is 300 baht whether you go upstairs or close the curtains in one of the sofa-bed areas.  But you can drink in the sofa=bed area for free and grope and get groped.

The ladies expect a 500 baht tip for blowjobs and 1000 baht for vaginal penetration. They did not mention anal penetration.

It's not easy to find but on 3rd road you take 3rd Road Soi 18 (or Soi 18/1 which turns into Soi 18 after 100 feet) until you reach the Family Mart where you'll see a sign for the Full Love Inn.  You make a left.

Then at the fork in the road, you make a right, and soon you'll see the Full Love Inn on the right, keep walking and you'll see Club 4 on the right.

When leaving, if you walk in the other direction you will eventually hit Soi Arunothai.

Btw, the Full Love Inn is a popular short time hotel with easy parking in front of your room. Shortime for 3 hours is 280 baht.

Club 4, in a town where most things are same same, actually is different and a good stop if you're in the mood for pussy.

  11. I suppose some are pushed but others are legitimate suicides.

Think factors include terminal illness, jilted love, and running out of money.  Since guys certainly have advance warning when money is getting low, perhaps a girl stealing his money mightpush him over the ledge.

    RIP Douglas

A 52-year-old American plunged to his death from the27th floor of View Thalay Condominium at the Central Pattaya at 7:30 am while police were trying to persuade him to change his mind. The tourist was identified by his passport as Douglax Rex Rinehart. He left a note, saying he had run out of cash but he did not want to go home.

The jump was witnessed by police, security officers and several other people.
