Me, Covid and Woolworhs supermarket chain and paranoia

I live alone in a Sydney suburb with a Woolies store in close proximity.

I also have an aversion to newsagents who attempt to grift you by charging an extra buck when I use my debit card, not credit card, to purchase the local newspaper, the Sydney Morning Herald (I don't buy the other local rags which are all Murdoch press). As far as I can tell, using a debit card means that the goods supplier is not charged by the bank at all for the transaction, unlike your usual credit card transaction where a fee is charged to the goods supplier and rightly passed on to you. Our local newsagent has a blanket fee charge system. Therefore I don't buy from him at all. Fuck him!

My recourse has been to purchase the Herald at Woolies while grocery shopping and cop the fee on my credit card. Hey! I get points in return, okay?

My concern now is this effing Covid thing is now laying in wait for me at Woolies. In the past week or so, I have been notified by the State (on my phone connected to its Covid watch service) that I have checked in at the same time as this other person or persons and need to self check, watch for symptoms etc. I am becoming paranoid about this person or persons lurking near the checkin in point. This is happening just about every day now.

Should I closely watch for the tell tale signs: lizard skin, close set eyes, sunken cheeks, shaven headed, tattooed on all visible ares of skin and with a body shape not unlike walnuts packed into a set of pantyhose.

I do need Woolies, not just for the newspapers, but also for groceries. I note that the twat newsagency is now advertising a sideline as a Filipino grocery store. Obviously, times are hard. Maybe I can adopt Filipino culture but I learnt from visits in the past years that they are mostly short and fat. The food is normally fatty and also greasy, tasteless etc. As people, I find them nice, hardworking and loyal citizens, just have a lousy cuisine.

What to do?

:hi:

I got my Pfizer booster shot yesterday. My arm now hurts a fair bit. They say there are other side effects that may arise over the next days.

Maybe my ESP will be heightened and I'll be able to spot this lurking Covid dispensing zombie. Let's hope so.

'My arm now hurts a fair bit."

Don't be a sissy.... Probably will go away in a few days... :spiteful:

You're lucky.... My local Woolies has closed > 15 years ago already...  Now I'm stuck with Aldi...

...whatever you want to do bubba,  but please don't order sisig!! :animal0018:

I haven't been to Sydney since 2010 and - tmk -  I don't have 'lizard skin, close set eyes, sunken cheeks, shaven headed, tattooed on all visible ares of skin and with a body shape not unlike walnuts packed into a set of pantyhose" but I'd say don't worry too much about those irrelevant things...

I'm also fat... But so what??? Do a keto / low-carb diet and exercise a bit every day and you'll be fine...(I think...)

>>>> Let's go to France!

I had my Pfizer booster in October. No side effects apart from a slight ache at injection site for a couple of days.

I was told there might be other effects too, they probably have to say that to cover any possibilities.

UK Woolworths closed in 2015.

I can't remember when I last bought a printed newspaper. Morning London paper (Metro) and Evening London paper (Standard) are free outside train and underground stations, and in some supermarkets.

Most national papers can be read online, only a couple charge a subscription fee. A supermarket chain (Waitrose) lets you have a free national paper when you spend £10 including the cost of the paper, so actually you have to spend about £8.

The dominance of Murdoch in Australia perhaps prevents access like this. I wouldn't read any of his UK papers.

I get most of my news from tv, radio and online.

I felt a pain in my left shoulder for a couple of days after my Pfizer booster, have had no other side affects.

Just have to grin and bear it

Thanks for your kind words, gents. My arm still hurts but I've survived the night.

Papa Sam, I'd like to go to France but afraid the idiot P.M. Scomo has scuttled that idea with the scuttling of the French subs deal. Sisig? Is that the uninspiring green soup that seems to be a major feature of the Filipino cuisine? I concur wholly.

Pulci G, staying at home is a brutal option. The politicians have opened the flood gates and Omicron stalks me at Woolies but I do have a plan. Raid my loose change tin and drive the bastard newsagent barmy with coinage! Further, I've developed a bad case of RSI, Porn sites are no real substitute for a corporeal vision of an Asian LB in the Land of Smiles, is it?

Quietguy, I like the daily ritual of picking up a real newspaper, feeling its weight in my hand, walking home whilst exchanging the time of day with sundry walkers (among whom lurks the Omicron zombie), sorting and tossing out the major part now comprising advertising crap from Harvey Normal flogging tvs and other stuff, looking over the sporting news (come on youse Poms! At least try to go down fighting!). Sorry chaps, had to get that stir in! . Nowadays the Herald is so slim it's no longer a possible fly swat, just when the blowies season is upon us. B)

I could get a dog, I suppose.

Take some ibuprofen or nurofen. It works for most aches or pains. Health care professionals will say take paracetomol but I find that isn't as effective.

If you have stomach issues, particularly if you have stomach/intestinal ulcers don't use ibuprofen, nurofen or any other NSAIDs as they will make those issues worse. NSAIDS have GI side effects, some quite serious (GI bleeds), particularly if taken long term.

Its now 12th, 6 days on and the booster's effects have dissipated as far as I can tell. But the "let it rip" allowed by our new chum Premier Dominic Perrotet, (looks like a prefect from your usual "pay through the nose higher echelon Catholic College" now given the important showers room supervision monitor job), seems to have come unstuck in a biggish way. Notified cases have far and away outstripped the estimates brayed about by our grizzled Health Minister in late December. He's now been pushed aside so Dominic the Candoer has a proper chance to show his wares as a politician you can trust on polling day later this year. His time in the sun, as it were.

Probably just as well we dont have an Oz version of Jonathan Pie to give him a severe and deserved bollocking. The huge surge of cases has overwhelmed the already strained medical resources and totally screwed the reawakening business sector. Pre Christmas business surge has been followed by  a month of no bloody business at all for the local shopkeepers, cafe proprietors and even the big chains are squealing. On the positive side Dominic can fall back on the old adage that even bad publicity is good publicity (in a sense). Not so sure I'd agree and the press don't at this stage. My local bar has resorted to business one day, closed the next and so on.

I've had countless close encounters with the Woolies zombie since my original post. I'm thinking of channelling Arnie, smearing myself with mud and hiding in the fresh fruit and veggies section andscreaming: "come and get me you freaking invisible barsteward!" Sadly, the fresh fruit and veggie section at present is a sadly depleted set of shelving, display counters and such. Hardly a place for concealment with no life threatening plethora of cabbages and iceberg lettuce to use as missiles.

Pray for me to pull through.
