P. Diddy was acquitted on Wednesday of sex trafficking and racketeering charges, but convicted of transportation to engage in prostitution after an eight-week federal trial.

A jury in Manhattan found Mr. Combs, 55, not guilty of the most serious charges against him. Prosecutors had accused the famed producer of coercing two former girlfriends, Casandra Ventura and a woman who testified pseudonymously as “Jane,” into unwanted sex with male prostitutes, aided by a team of pliant employees.

Even with a partial conviction, the result is something of a victory for Mr. Combs, who was elated in court. He had faced a possible life sentence had he been convicted of other counts in the case. He could be sentenced up to a maximum of 20 years in prison on the two transportation for prostitution charges — 10 years for each count — but the final sentence will be up to a judge.

Here’s what else to know:

Racketeering: Jurors said on Tuesday that there were “unpersuadable opinions on both sides” in regard to the racketeering count. Racketeering law was once intended to combat the Mafia but has become central in cases against R. Kelly, Young Thug, Wall Street executives, gang members and President Trump.

Possible release: A defense lawyer immediately asked the judge to release Mr. Combs from jail to await sentencing now that he no longer faces sex-trafficking and racketeering charges. The judge said he would hear arguments on the question before ruling.

The jury: The racially diverse panel of eight men and four women, ranging in age from 30 to 74, sent several notes to the judge during deliberations, both asking for evidence and expressing concern about one juror.

Felony charges: Had he been convicted of sex trafficking, Mr. Combs would have faced a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. The charge of racketeering conspiracy also carries a potential life sentence.

Prosecution’s case: Mr. Combs was portrayed as the head of a criminal enterprise who “used power, violence and fear to get what he wanted” in the government’s closing argument. A prosecutor said Mr. Combs used violence, financial control and threats to manipulate his girlfriends into physically taxing sex sessions with hired men, while he masturbated and filmed.

Defense’s case: In its closing argument, Mr. Combs’s defense team told jurors that the government’s evidence contradicted its case. It acknowledged that Mr. Combs had engaged in domestic violence and drug use, but argued that the accusation that Mr. Combs was a sex trafficker or criminal ringleader was “badly exaggerated.”

Pattaya, Thailand — In a blow to hip-hop enthusiasts across Asia, organizers of Rolling Loud Thailand announced the abrupt cancellation of their 2025 edition just weeks before the scheduled event, citing “circumstances beyond our control.” The festival, slated for November 14-16 at Legend Siam in Pattaya, had been plagued by an unusual lack of updates, fueling widespread rumors of trouble behind the scenes.

Rolling Loud, the world’s largest hip-hop festival series, launched its Thailand chapter in 2023 as a gateway to Southeast Asian audiences. Past editions drew massive crowds with star-studded lineups, including headliners like A$AP Rocky and Cardi B in 2023.

The Grammys will be awarded on Sunday night.  Here's what a New York Times columnist wrote about the Best New Artist:

Quote

The Grammys are Sunday night, which means it’s time for an annual Amplifier tradition: a playlist that introduces you to the latest crop of best new artist nominees. (They’ll all be performing at this year’s ceremony.)

In keeping with the Recording Academy’s recent trend toward reflecting what is popular on social media and the pop charts, the hopefuls include some bona fide hitmakers and rising stars: the British powerhouse Lola Young, the moody pop star Sombr and one of the most-followed people on TikTok, the influencer-turned-pop-artiste Addison Rae.

I am going to make a prediction, though: Olivia Dean, the old-souled and refreshingly jubilant British singer-songwriter, will take home the trophy — as she should. Dean has been music’s most delightful, unexpected breakout star of the past year. Though her warm and unabashedly romantic LP “The Art of Loving” doesn’t conform to any of pop’s recent trends, it’s still found a large audience and spawned two hit singles: the fleet-footed “Man I Need” and the bossa nova-inflected “So Easy (to Fall in Love),” both currently in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Dean’s only bit of bad Grammy luck may end up being that her breakout happened just a little too late. While “Man I Need” came out two weeks before this year’s Grammy eligibility window closed in late August, the song didn’t really catch on until the fall. As a talented young singer-songwriter with a throwback style, Dean has all the hallmarks of the sort of artist the Grammys love to coronate, but best new artist is her only nomination. Had the nominations come out even a month or so later, I have a feeling she would have taken home an armful of statues. (Dean’s album arrived in late September, so expect her to be back next year.)

It’s Dean’s award to lose. But I am here to prepare you for all possible scenarios. So if, say, the international girl group Katseye pulls off a wild upset, you can impress everyone around you with the appropriate response: “Gnarly.”

I agree. I'd vote for Olivia Dean.

So Easy (below) is my favorite tune she sings:

Some further thoughts about Grammy nominated songs and whether or not I played them at tonight's gig at Emmy Bar and most old farang don't want to hear newish music.  Other than Thai songs, ladyboys prefer to hear English songs they've heard before either at bars or streaming.

Below are the songs nominated for Best Record and Best Song. Best record is geared more towards the artist and production. Best song more geared to the songwriter.  7 songs were nominated for both so there's a total of 9 songs.

Record/Song of the Year

“Abracadabra” — Lady Gaga
“Anxiety” — Doechii
“APT.” — Rosé & Bruno Mars
“DtMF” — Bad Bunny
“Luther” — Kendrick Lamar & SZA
“Manchild” — Sabrina Carpenter
“The Subway” — Chappell Roan
“Wildflower” — Billie Eilish“

Golden” (from “Kpop Demon Hunters”) — Huntr/x“Golden” (from “Kpop Demon Hunters”) — Huntr/x

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

APT is the new song that gets the best reaction by far from both Thais and Farang.  It's such a fun, well produced song.  Crowd favorite and  also a favorite of mine.  I've played it at every gig since it came out except at a Northern Soul night at a Pattaya Soul Bar.   Thais know it and farang have asked me the name of the song which rarely happens.

At the other extreme is Bad Bunny tunes which neither Thais or Expats are familiar with or will enjoy.

I like Lady Gaga but don't like Abracadabra.   Bad Romance is the Gaga tune that I've played the most.

Luther is a song I've only played once when lots of hip hop fans were at one party.  If I'm going to play Kendrick it's going to be Not Like Us.

I like Manchild but I didn't think the farangs tonight would be to familiar with. I did play Espresso which the girls are familiar with though.

Tonight no Chappell Roan but I've played Hot 2 Go before since I think the girls like it. It has Hollabeck Girl energy.

No Billie Eilish either tonight but I've played Lunch by her and also played Guess by Charliexxx and Eilish a few times.

I like Anxiety but rarely play it. I figure the Emmy Bar farang won't be too familiar with it and people want to hear what they know.

Golden is a monster hit with teenage girls and played it at previous gigs because some Thais like KPOP.

That covers the 9 songs above.

I did play So Easy by Olivia Dean. Kind of odd that she is one of the favorites to win Best New Artist but she doesn't have a Record or Song nominated.

I played Streets of Minneapolis since it was requested. Pretty sure the girls have never heard it.  It was hastily written in less than a week so as to be topical.  I'm sure it would be much slicker if The Boss had months to work on it.   Figured I should seque into another protest song. There's an Irish singer/guitarist who made a mashup of Come Out Ye Black and Tans with NWA's Fuk Da Police and these three songs had a similar theme.  To balance things out ideologically I played Who Let The Dogs Out by the Baha Men, and during short pauses in that song i spliced in audio of Trump saying, "in Springfield they're eating the dogs"  Haven't seen any online DJs do this but think it works well.

That wraps up the new music. Played mostly rock though because that's what the crowd wanted to hear tonight.

Streets of Minneapolis has reached No 1 in several countries.

At May's party, I looped one bar of the song so that it would continuously play and cranked the volume. So Ice Out Now could be heard up and down Soi 2. Must've worked because I didn't see a single black ski mask on the soi.  No bloodshed; just lots of anal sex.

Today I was at Central and saw the big pic below of Rose (should have an accent mark over the e but not sure how to do that on my keyboard).  She's a brand ambassador for Puma.

APT is my favorite song of the 2020's but I don't like any of the other tunes from the Rosie album (when spelled as Rosie there's no accent on the e). Not sure if she likes anal.

If you feel strongly about Minneapolis you can go to the T Shirt Warehouse on 3rd Road in Pattaya and for 450 baht buy a custom made T-shirt such as :

Or alternatively you can go to theTshirt Whorehouse and get a Tee saying Quiet Guy Does It Deeper!

I mentioned earlier in this thread that my favorite song of the 2020's is APT.   Last night I was at a small cabaret in the gay area with BBand he shot this video in which the ladyboy completely nails Rose though the lad is not really close to Bruno Mars.  Below is the a phone video BB shot and then the official APT video. She matches Rose's looks and energy exactly, Rose with a cock!
