So what do you think should happen to these guys?  A big fine? Jail? Deportation?  Or is boozing and socialization just a basic need not much different than patronizing a prostitute?  Perhaps a 500 baht fine and tell the boys not to do it again?  Or nothing as the pursuit of happiness is an inalienable right endowed by our Creator?

It's easy to criticise these events and declare how wrong they are etc. But without condoning what they done, the truth of the matter is that humans are social animals. Many of us, myself included, can happily stay inside and not socialise with others for long periods of time, for others this is not possible. So in a way, I do have a bit of sympathy for them.

From what I've read farang customers who were caught by the police at the Naklua Bamboo Bar last month, and in Soi Buakhow/Treetops last week were fined 40 - 50,000 Baht if they admitted guilt at the police station. Any who intend to contest the charge in court were told they would have to put up 100,000 Baht as bail pending trial.

23 were arrested in Korat.  Will be interesting if the fines for the Pattaya farang are more than the the Thais in Korat, not that a higher fine for farang is necessarily unreasonable since a 500 baht fine would only deter the cheapest of cheap charlie farang.

Korat Police Invade and collect a group of 23 teachers and students to set up a group of alcoholic beverages without fear of covids - do not wear hygienic masks plead guilty Communicable Disease Act.

A group of 23 men and women aged 20-35 were found drinking alcohol without wearing masks and keeping social distance at all. which is a risky behavior for the epidemic of COVID-19

From the questionnaire of the oldest men in the group Claims to be a professor affiliated with a university. As for those who sit and drink alcohol are disciples. We made an appointment to meet and talk and we just drank together for the first time. The officer informed the illegal act.

Then made an arrest.

Book em Danno!

Some interesting comments by the Buakhao Boys........

The August 20 raid in Pattaya on the area in front of the Tree Tops area in Soi Buakhao was a much humbler affair involving 21 people of mixed nationalities. The area is backpacker-dominated and houses much of the cash-conscious British expat market, or what remains of it. The police action was unusual since it occurred before 21.00, the curfew hour, but group drinking at any time is forbidden under a welter of national and local orders

Dave, a British retiree who understandably does not wish to be identified, said he and several others had assumed drinking was OK out of curfew hours as he and his friends had been to the same bar most nights in the past two weeks without incident. He had also been assured by a bar worker that a raid was out of the question as the authorities did not want bad publicity when tourism was at an all-time low. This belief that certain venues have an unofficial certificate of exemption from prosecution runs through all the raid sagas as the unfortunates look for an exit strategy.

The retiree said everyone had been piled into police transport and taken to a large room on the top floor of Pattaya police station – not a cell – where those arrested were processed on production of a copy of their passports or a driving licence. He had signed a paper in Thai which he assumed was a guilty plea and had since paid a 40,000 baht court fine. He was not sure what had happened to those who could not prove their identity. He had heard one had been detained in Nong Plalai prison as he refused to confirm his identity.

Dave added he was not being deported as “the detention center is full” but was warned that the immigration bureau had designated him as a “marked man” whilst police retained his passport. In any case, he added, he would not be returning to Thailand, a common reaction in his situation. He believed the core reason why people break the booze laws is that they are totally fed up with nothing to do. “I didn’t come to Pattaya to be a wandering extra in a zombie movie,” he concluded.

The jurisprudence in Singapore sets the sentence at 6 weeks in prison.

LATE NEWS ! HOLD THE FRONT PAGE !

An update on this story.

I had agreed to accompany BBG on a shopping trip for provisions. The 'Grunt' had fancied a brace of Nut Cutlets to liven up his  Pot Noodles (from 7-11 - on offer). On completion of his shopping we agreed to pause a while and partake of light refreshments. (7-11 of course). I was enjoying a Sang Som free Soda and BBG was slurping a 'Lem Sip'. Suddenly we were joined by this mob of Wife Beater Vest wearers - vulgar shorts and tacky sports wear. We tried to distance ourselves but they were everywhere - waving cheap beer and lager cans (thanks to 7-11). We made a move to leave - too late - the sound of sirens (courtesy of Simon and Garfunkle) cut through the night and The Boys in Brown descended. Before we could protest our innocence we were oiked into the back of a cattle truck along with the aforementioned trailer trash. At the Police Station we explained the situation - this fell on deaf ears ! "Banged up to rights" as the chief pig said. So here we are in chokey. The Grunt has been in touch with one of his Hi-So friends who has great influence and we hope to be back on the streets in the next few hours. ! The Truth will Out. !
