Two people sustained serious head injuries in the ‘Pattaya Bikini Surf Skate’ event over the past weekend according to a Pattaya City deputy mayor today.

The surf skate accident happened on Saturday (March 27th) on the Beach Road at a downhill curve near the Dolphin Roundabout.

Three people were involved in the surf skate accident. They were not wearing any helmet or protective equipment. They were not named to the press but were described as young.

Two of them sustained serious head injuries and were knocked unconscious, the third person involved in the accident was not injured. They were taken to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and were provided brain and skull related operations and are now recovering.

The Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Eakkasing told local news media, “We strictly told the organizers to pay attention for safety-related issues.”

“There were many people joining the surf-skate. The organizers might not have had enough staffers to keep eyes on everyone.” Ronnakit added.

“We called the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital to help them as we had made a special ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)’ with the hospital for injuries during events.” Ronnakit explained.

“Those injuries were covered under the ‘Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP) policy’. The Government is paying for their medical fees at no cost to the injured young skaters. ” Ronnakit continued

“However each of their operations cost about 500,000 baht. We are reviewing the incidents with the organizers and also touching base with similar skating events on the importance of safety standards and wearing protective equipment.” Ronnakit concluded.
