NPR Article Re: Thailand Sex Trade and Pandemic

Finally a story about covid, Thai economy, and sex workers that isn't superficial.  A very good report from someone who knows their stuff.  And good photographs as well that capture the scenes well.  Interestingly, the writer and photographer are both women.  And I'm happy to say American women at that!

Good article on what is happening with our working friends in Thailand. It's amazing that that Sex Trade is estimated to account for a full 3% of GDP.

Thailand's Sex Workers Losing Their Livelihood Due To Pandemic : Goats and Soda : NPR

"The sense of safety is something a majority of Thais are keen to protect. An October 2020 poll by the National Institute for Development Administration, an educational institution, found that 57% of Thais did not want to open the country to tourism"

Why would they...all foreigners bringing is disease and a little spare change/vacation money.

Thais are a helluva lot smarter than many people in my country

Why blame tourists or sex tourists ?

Thai sex workers are the same kind of people as many whores in the world. They are proud to make 4 or 5 times the amount of money of a secretary who have studied to get her job, pay no tax, don't save money and are proud to show off as smarter since they spend much more than anyone. That's all very weel, but they should have left some money in a box for the bad days. Bad days came last year ... too late to invest money in actual safety.

It is interesting.  It seems many of the Thai working girls do what I have noticed the Latino working girls from mexico, salvador, honderas, etc do here in the States.  They send a good share of their earnings back home to build a house for their parents, and help other family members move forward.  It seems like quite a few of the working girls in Thailand have done just that and "moved back" to their family homes, except that the family home they are moving back to, for some, is substantially better than the one they left with they went to work in the city.
