China is desperate to control the narrative of Covid-19's origin - whatever the cost

https://www.yahoo.com/news/china-desperate-control-narrative-origins-105645148.html

International experts from the World Health Organisation trying to investigate the origins of the coronavirus in China, a year after it first emerged in the central city of Wuhan, continue to run into roadblocks.

The delay for the WHO mission – already plagued by politics and posturing – adds to persistent worries that China will whitewash and frustrate the investigation. Indeed, a two-person WHO team on a three-week mission last August, aimed at laying out plans for further study, sat through a 14-day quarantine upon arrival and never visited Wuhan.

This comes as Beijing engages in a relentless propaganda campaign to distract from its cover-up and rewrite the narrative – all aimed at claiming the coronavirus originated outside China. Officials have seeded a number of conspiracy theories, including blaming the US military for infecting China. The most recent theory flouted is to label imported frozen seafood as the culprit.

Foreign minister Wang Yi has gone so far as to claim the virus emerged in many countries, and that China was simply the first to spot it. “We raced to report the epidemic first,” he told state media.

Mr Wang’s comments are a far cry from the experiences of doctors, including the late Li Wenliang and Ai Fen, both of whom were reprimanded by Chinese authorities after discovering coronavirus infections in December 2018 and seeking to warn colleagues.

Foreign journalists trying to report on the impact and origins of coronavirus, including from the Telegraph, have been harassed since the outbreak began at cemeteries in Wuhan and at caves deep in China where scientists had studied similar coronaviruses.

Beijing is so determined to stamp out dissent against its official story of what happened that authorities have disappeared citizen journalists who sought to report on the outbreak. A few weeks ago, one of them, Zhang Zhan, resurfaced in court where she was sentenced to four years in prison in a trial that the UK criticised as “secret.”

Authorities have even instructed some Wuhan residents not to speak to foreign journalists, reminding them that only praise for the government response is acceptable.

ll this paranoia helps whip conspiracy theorists in the West into a frenzy. What is China trying to hide? Did the virus escape from a lab? Was it even engineered there?

These theories have been roundly dismissed by the global scientific community. But they are unlikely to go away until China is more transparent. The WHO mission is a good place to start.

But a change of tact is, sadly, unlikely.

China is more focused on crowing victory over the virus and to tout its vaccine diplomacy – state-owned Sinopharm said it’s on track to produce one billion doses this year.

Its priority lies in rehabilitating its image on the world stage, whatever the cost.

The Communist Totalitarian USSR government could have spent billions to promote the idea that a radiation leak emanating from Chernobyl did NOT come from the reactor, eventhough a nuclear reactor exists in the city.

The totalitarian Iranian government could have spent billions that it was not their errant missile that downed a commercial jet in late 2019, eventhough they were in the midst of lobbing missiles at that time.

But the world is too smart for that and Russians and Iranians have some semblance of morality through a history with religion.

Yet so many people have become completely taken by the billions spent by the totalitarian CCP in China to somehow make people believe that the virus came from soup or a market, eventhough Wuhan is the China epicenter of deadly pathogen research in China, and the global epicenter for bat coronavirus research.

If anyone is honest to their logical self, they would put the lab leak at the top 2 or 3 of their list, and those who research it further would come to a reasonable conclusion.

Stop getting played by a multi billion dollar media machine and use the God give common sense you developed by the age of 25.

China erasing H&M from internet amid Xinjiang backlash

https://www.yahoo.com/news/china-erasing-h-m-internet-104113958.html

HONG KONG (AP) — H&M disappeared from the internet in China as the government raised pressure on shoe and clothing brands and announced sanctions Friday against British officials in a spiraling fight over complaints of abuses in the Xinjiang region.

@rxpharm
and others......... I am wondering if you have revised your thinking on the origins of the virus since all the other bullshit officially reported origins by the CCP, like a wet market origination, have been provenly false and now the new official lie is "frozen food from overseas"

Are you more inclined to wonder the correlation between

A) the epicenter for virus research in China being labs in Wuhan,

B the epicenter of bat coronavirus research GLOBALLY being labs in Wuhan and

C) a bat corona virus originating from Wuhan?

Where is Encyclopedia Brown when we need him. This seems to be a difficult case to deduce.

I'm not in any way trying to gloat. I'm just curious if time and reasoning have soothened the cognitive disonace that the world has experienced on many things, not just this question, in 2020.

The only question remaining in my mind is whether the world is going to let the CCP get away with the biggest crime of the last 100 years (crime of gross negligence that impacted every single human on this planet in a negative way)

There is a low probability that the SARS 2 VOC came from a laboratory. The virus that struck is a variant of a weakly virulent strain that was most likely already circulating in China. Most likely means that there will always be enough doubt for China to exploit this doubt not to recognize the reality especially as the Chinese government is very adept at wanting to hide the reality, even if it is not. so embarrassing for them.
There is no civil or criminal liability of any country for this kind of event. The countries responsible for the Chernobyl disaster, the spraying of Agent Orange on agricultural land or the oil spills were never held to account except those determined to improve the situation after the disaster.

Having said that, many countries including the former "free world", and countries like Vietnam should be more careful about China using the Covid19 crisis to spread their influence over the world. The USA should also think of avoiding a "mirror" attitude. this would make many countries believe they 've got only one alternative between 2 equally agressive  imperialisms.

I am not in a rush looking to blame and will wait for the WHO team to produce their report. What benefit or good results in looking to blame a country before facts are reported? If you have looked back at the history of the Spanish Flu you can see a lot of the same issues that happened then, as now. The revealing thing is that the US successfully deflected the blame away from themselves as the likely originating country for the Spanish Flu.

The WHO has lost credibility.....parroting the CCPs statements early on by telling the world "there is no evidence of human to human transmission".....just because China said it (and we now have evidence that China knew there was human to humn transmission prior to then).

The conflicts of interest are rampant. China selected half the investigation team and vetoed any American members (this is a global investigation for truth....a China veto is ridiculous). Not to mention senior team member Dr. Peter Daszak who has worked closely in the past  with the Wuhan laboratory and Dr.. Shi Zhengli (aka Batlady..... a name given to her well before this pandemic because she is a world leader and China's leading scientist for bat corona virus research......)

do you know what city she is from?

Its not Shenzhen or Guangdong or Shanghai or Hangzhou or Beijing or Chengdu. You get one guess..... and I'll bet you will get it right.

The two most preposterous statements from the investigation "A lab leak as the cause is extremely likely" and then they claimed the frozen food theory should be studied in more depth.

It was so entirely preposterous that it ignited the global scientific community to protest....and the WHO had to go back to the drawing board with their report.

Did you note that so much material evidence that is required China refused to give....such as lab records....sewer samples, blood samples, etc.. etc.... the basic items that if THERE WAS A LEGITIMATE INVESTIGATION....WOULD BE INCLUDED.

RXpharm....we can agree to disagree. But I am absolutely flabbergasted how gullible and naive white people have become in this world.

Yes, we do disagree, and yet you have jumped to the conclusion that I am a China apologist or supporter. There is no doubt China is a bad actor, their actions in trying to expand their influence in Asia/Pacific and Africa are just as disgusting as the US and many European countries did in their pasts.

You seem to be "salivating" at the prospect of revenge on China, accepting as fact a lot of things that remain conjecture without firm proof. If those things make you feel better and comforted in your beliefs, fine.

I am happy that there are more sanctions arising against China for their actions regarding the Uyghurs, and for their cavalier treatment of expats in China as political pawns. What I am not happy is wholesale zealous propaganda of a conspiracy theory that remains unproven.

It is so easy for you to toss around words denigrating WHO - when you seem not to understand how they operate. WHO is a consultative agency = they cannot force governments to follow their policies and recommendations. It works best when countries engage and participate - so what happened when the US withdrew at the beginning of Trump's term? Of course US influence diminishes.

Can you imagine if there was an investigation in the US of a virus lab - do you honestly think they would be totally transparent and provide all their documentation, samples etc? The WHO investigation is the ONLY way we will get any idea of what happened other than starting a war - which seems to be what you are angling at for "revenge" against China for their "deliberate" release of a bio weapon.

There have been some preliminary findings released and it looks like the conclusion is that COVID 19 resulted from the wildlife trade in China that were exposed to bats carrying the virus. This is similar to other pandemics that have started in the past, and those which will likely happen in the future. The official report should be out soon. If you and many others continue to promulgate this conspiracy theory, preventative measures that need to taken in other areas of the world that are possible pandemic originating centers may be delayed, as the desire for revenge and punishment divert will, resources and action to solve the real risks of pandemic causes.
