On Monday Night the Tourist Police announced the arrest of a 35 year old Nigerian who was found to be concealing class 1 drugs in his backside.

Mr. Godwin Chinedu Abgarakwe was spotted by Tourist Police on Pattaya 3rd Road after they had earlier been given a tip-off about him and allegations he was selling class 1 drugs.

An initial search of him came up with nothing but a more intimate search revealed a packet of the class 1 drug Crystal Methamphetamine weighing 4g.

The suspect claimed he had been exporting Thai clothing to Nigeria for the last year but orders were down and he needed money to survive so decided to allegedly enter a life of crime centered on the sale of narcotics.

In addition to the drug offenses it was also found that he had entered Thailand on a 1 month visa in September 2011 and since then he was living illegally without a valid visa.

The Nigerian was transferred to Pattaya Police Station for further legal processing.

Three Cambodian Monks on Visa Overstay “Disrobed” and arrested by Pattaya Police

Following complaints from members of the public, three Cambodian Buddhist Monks were detained early on Wednesday Morning and later found to be on visa overstay.

The Monks were spotted in Soi Kaotalo in East Pattaya and were allegedly asking for food and money which is not permitted.

Police found the three monks and inspected their passports which all indicated that their entry visas had expired and they were no longer permitted to reside in Thailand.

They were initially sent to the Suttawat Temple and “disrobed” by the Chief Abbot, due to their behavior unbecoming of a Buddhist Monk.

The three men were then taken to Immigration in Jomtien where the deportation process back to Cambodia, began.

Ahhhhh  most evenings I have 1 or 2 beers in a tiny pub in the Big C Extra Pattaya Klang area and there have been some monks coming and asking for donations........ the Thai owners although skeptical about them being genuine still gave them something as did I.............probably this lot!

I think that real monks are only out with their begging bowl in the morning.

They are never pushy or at least not in my experience.

Those who give in the morning give because they genuinely want to give and not because the monks are pushy or pressure them.  It's good, clean, pure energy.

I used to take Thai lessons in the afternoon and a phoney monk came into the shop (it was a one on one lesson) to seek donations.  The teacher didn't give and when he left, the teacher said she doubted it was a real monk.

PD and I were strolling through the arcade at Kiss restaurant this afternoon and stopped to look at the menu at Beefeaters.  Suddenly this monk appears, beaming smile and begging bowl at the ready.  As we ignore him, a hawker with a tray of watches passes by with a disgruntled look on his face and says fake monk, not good.  Seemed a tad ironic with all the Rolex time pieces he was carrying.

Last November I saw a Monk with a big bag, a cigarette behind his ear and paying to take a "leak" at the Ekkami Bus Station toilet with a 20 Baht note, surely that cant be right

Another occasion in November was when I was having a drink at the Barbie Bar on Soi Chaiyapoon at 6am ( a night-cap of course :rolleye0012: ) , a few Monks started to appear and one came over to the bar to receive "gifts" from a few girls there, after a "chant" he offered  buddha bands (Im sure someone will be put me right here on the name for them?) to them and I politely asked for one which he kindly obliged, when I offered him a 100 Baht Note he slowly looked away which to me was a sign I should not have done that.. :acute:

I did feel embarrassed by my ignorance

There is an E-sarn weekend on in Pattaya this weekend starting today, 7.

The first day begins with the parade, which will highlight a variety of traditional northeastern dances, “pin” playing, “kaan” mouth-organ blowing and more cultural shows.

The second day will feature a ladyboy beauty show featuring performers from Mimosa Pattaya and various “mo lam sing” concerts.

Rival ladyboys from the Tiffany Show hit the stage on the third day before winners of the scary-ghost contest are announced.

From what we can gather it might be a double venue event,  The Morlam site on Third road and possibly the School grounds on Pattaya Tai/Second rd.  Will head out soon and investigate Pattaya Tai to check.  Either way there may be something of interest for any of you guys passing.

A 26 year old Thai Man, who purchased what he thought was a real second-hand Rolex Watch, later found the watch to be fake, despite handing over 110,000 Baht for the watch to its previous owner, a Swedish National.

Khun Samit went to Pattaya Police Station on Friday evening and spoke with Police Colonel Supachai, the Station Chief, who was told that the apparent victim saw the watch advertised on a Thai Website. If the watch had been genuine the retail price for the item is currently 240,000 Baht so the sale at less than half-price seemed a real bargain.

Khun Samit agreed to meet Mr. Carl Anders Mikael Andersson aged 54 from Sweden, at the Big C Extra Store in Central Pattaya where the money was handed over in exchange for the wrist watch. Mr. Andersson allowed Khun Samit to take a picture of his passport in case a problem with the sale occurred.

Khun Samit claimed Mr. Andersson appeared eager to leave quickly which made Khun Samit suspicious. He went straight to a shop to get the watch valued and it was confirmed the item was a fake. Mr. Andersson had long disappeared so the victim decided to report the incident to Police.

Immigration Police have been informed and will attempt to block the suspects exit from Thailand should he decided to escape the country to avoid arrest. The hunt for the suspect continues.

Pattaya’s police chief is spending 6 million baht of his own money to upgrade the small, shabby Soi 9 city police station.

Pol. Col Supachai Puikaewkam said he consulted with his wife, Roi-et Deputy Gov. Juriporn Sinthuphrai before deciding to dip into his own pocket to revamp that station, which is so small officers must work in the parking lot and even small motorbikes often cannot find a place to park.

“I worked as a deputy suppression superintendent here, so I know the root of various problems the station has,” the police chief said.

“The police station is small and some areas are not even in order. I will solve this issue by using my own money to renovate the station but those wanting to donate can do so,” Supachai said. “The superintendent’s office will be moved to the second floor of the seaside Rak Vinai building and will be bigger to accommodate citizens wanting to visit or file a direct complaint, as well as make them feel at home and not nervous.”
