Public apology from a Pattaya hotel

The executives of the Sun Xclusive Hotel on Monday publicly apologised for the inappropriate behaviour of its reception staff following negative criticisms on Facebook.

Suvit Vanichprapa, group general manager at Sunshine Hotels & Resorts, said at the press conference that the management was upset with the incident.

He insisted that driver’s license can be used as an ID for check-in. Yet, strict screening process had been imposed as people have disguised themselves as guests and stole guests’ properties. He also blamed a breakdown in communications with the staff, lack of knowledge and their stress level. Saying this is a valuable lesson to all tourism operators, he vowed to toughen the recruitment standards.

The press conference followed the video posting by a Facebook user named Pitty Oommy, who said she took the video herself. In her video, a Thai girl named Mon was about to enter the hotel entrance to open a room for her Bangladeshi boyfriend, using her driver’s license as the ID. The reception staff however pushed her away.

At the press conference, Mon accepted the apology, saying she was pleased with the hotel’s response. Yet, she noted that this incident should not reoccur.

The viral video of a vendor chasing tourists away for not buying her beach chairs prompted a crackdown on all beach chair businesses on Wong Amat beach yesterday.

The video, which was deemed to ruin the image of Thai tourism, forced Pattaya officials to order all four beach chair operators at Wong Amat beach to immediately shut down their businesses because the beach is public property, according to Commissioner Pol.Lt.Gen. Thanet Pinmuangam.

Thanet said the operators had failed to register their businesses and if they continue to set up beach chairs on public spaces, they will be prosecuted.

Earlier this year, there was a crackdown on other beaches in the city including Pattaya, Jomtien and Koh Lan beaches.

The four Wong Amat operators, however, can submit a complaint to the Pattaya City Hall, Manager reported.

Jealous Boyfriend slashes throat of Girlfriend outside of Pattaya Massage Parlor

A 42-year-old Thai man was arrested by Police on Wednesday in connection with a serious assault which took place at the front of a Massage Parlor, whereby the female victim was attacked with a knife leading to her throat being cut.

Khun Mondree was arrested at Big C in North Pattaya after he fled the crime scene following the attack on his girlfriend, Khun Manee aged 35, who works at the Heaven Massage Parlor on the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya.

She met her boyfriend at the front of her place of work after he requested to spend Loy Krathong Night with her. She was unable to go due to her work commitments and for many weeks the pair have been arguing about her work and the possibility she may have another boyfriend; an allegation she denies.

Khun Mondree was recently made unemployed and it is thought this in combination with the couples’ domestic problems led to the fight taking place. Khun Mondree confessed to pulling out a knife and threatening his girlfriend before the fight began and he claimed he did not plan to use it on her. He claimed the cut across her throat was an “accident”.

Luckily for the female victim the knife wound was not serious and she is expected to make a full recovery. Khun Mondree has been charged with attempted murder.

An American wanted on assault charges back home was captured hiding in Pattaya.

Christopher William Parker, 53, was apprehended Nov. 20 by Chonburi Immigration Police after he applied for a year-long extension of stay to his non-immigrant visa.

A background check turned up his outstanding warrant and the U.S. embassy was contacted.

Park entered Thailand from Laos on June 30 and was residing in Moo 3 village in Nongprue Sub-district. His extension actually had been granted and he was permitted to stay in the country until June 23 next year.

Immigration officials said he will be deported back to the U.S. to face his charges.

No point the Thais unloading him prior to extracting one final service fee from said foreigner.

Notorious Melbourne bikie Amad "Jay" Malkoun, who was present at the abduction of international drug trafficker Wayne Rodney Schneider in Thailand, is believed to have fled to Dubai.

Malkoun had been questioned as witness by Thai police in relation to Schneider's abduction and murder last week.
But a source close to Malkoun denied he had left the country without permission, claiming Thai police said Malkoun was "free to go".

Malkoun, himself a convicted drug trafficker, has been living in Dubai with his family since resigning as the president of the Comanchero bikie gang in 2013.

It is understood that Malkoun is a close associate of a member of the Gulf state's royal family who has allowed him to stay in the United Arab Emirates despite his extensive criminal history and organised crime connections.

The relationship is apparently based on a mutual interest in horses, with the Dubai royal giving Malkoun an Arabian stallion as a gift.

Malkoun has been claiming he slept through Schneider's abduction despite reports of bullet casings being found nearby and the presence of a large pool of blood in the villa near the seaside tourist city of Pattaya.

Witnesses and Thai police say Schneider was bashed and kidnapped by five armed assailants last Monday as part of an alleged extortion attempt. The body of the former NSW Hells Angels member was discovered the next day in a shallow roadside grave.

Sources told The Sunday Age that Schneider was a well-known drug trafficker who ran extensive criminal network in Europe and Asia worth tens of millions of dollars. He has been the subject of at least one previous extortion attempt in Thailand.

Malkoun was able to leave the country despite being a potential witness. He was interviewed by Thai police in the hours after Schneider was kidnapped last Monday.

It is unknown how Malkoun managed to leave Thailand where police have put members of outlaw motorcycle gangs on a watch list.

Police have made a series of breakthroughs in Schneider's murder investigation after a GPS tracker fitted to a hired pick-up truck led police to the grave site.

A prime Australian suspect, Antonio Bagnato, has been arrested after fleeing to Cambodia and faces extradition to Thailand on kidnapping and murder charges. If found guilty he could face a death sentence.

Bagnato, 26, is a former Sydney bikie and business partner of Schneider.

Thai police say they have established the identities of the five men involved in the murder.

The Tourist Police led an operation, involving over 100 Pattaya Police and Tourist Police Officers in the early hours of Tuesday in the South Pattaya entertainment zone.

The raid mostly concentrated on the Walking Street area and saw the officers conduct raids on GoGo Bars and Discotheques. Passports of foreigners were checked as were the credentials of Thai workers in all of the venues they visited.

A group of foreign nationals were detained and one of them was found to possess an expired visa in his passport and will be transferred to Immigration Police for deportation.

Three illegal foreign workers were found at a restaurant on Walking Street and will also face deportation in the near future.

Security patrols in the main tourist areas of Pattaya are being stepped-up as the Festive period approaches and the local authorities hope that such operations reassure law abiding tourists who visit Pattaya that their safety is of paramount importance.

Reassure?  Tourists just love it when they're in a place that gets raided.

If you see a drone flying over Soi 6

Banglamung District Officials have announced they are now using drones to gather evidence and catch those trying to escape from them when they conduct crime suppression operations in Pattaya.

A demonstration of how the drones are now being used was witnessed by the gathered media on Wednesday when a drone was used to gather evidence of drug users in a village located in the Huay Yai area. The drone was also used to indicate possible escape routes for suspects and would have been used to follow any who may have attempted to escape. In this case 6 suspected class 1 drug users were caught without incident.

The drones are now expected to be used in operations such as detecting gambling events and ensuring that everyone in attendance can be arrested regardless of whether they try to escape or not.

We understand they are unlikely to be used in every operation led by the District Officials in the future as the sound generated by the drones could affect their element of surprise.
