Meanwhile, in the wilds of Phitsanulok, in the farming community where I live, you wouldn't know there was a virus.

Great to read Cobber, it is refreshing when I see and hear of life being lived as normal as it's a far cry from that here in Wales at the moment ,  when I look at some of the You Tube bloggers such as Ride4kicks , I like what I am seeing as it's just as you are describing life is pretty much as normal in many parts of Thailand.

Two more casualties of the Pandemic by the looks of it.

Triple J had a good brekkie.

There will be many more casualties.   But there are also places opening up.  There was a new alco cart that opened a couple nights ago in the Jomtien Complex.

Pfizer vaccine ready. Distribution starts January. 90% effective.

Optimistic for chinese new year in Thailand.

Listening to the experts yesterday and 90% effective is great as most are only around 50% or so.  Also things are improving with quick testing.  Don’t say it too loud but is it possible some of us may get back to the Kingdom some time next year indeed.

Shame to see Tripe J fold, popped in there once or twice a week for that brekkie:(

I'd say safety vs economic salvation are driving the delivery.  If early vaccinations show REAL and swift decline in new cases I expect the money powers that be will cheer and start ramping up efforts for return to normalcy.  I don't see it happening by Chinese New Year tho.  Thailand has shown itself to be conservative in approach, to put it lightly.  Unless THEIR money boys holler loudly enough.  I'm looking forward to seeing news from airlines after the vaccine starts getting out.  Likely the first rounds will go to medical personnel and government, police, military, etc. Might be until CNY  until the vaccine starts even getting to "the people".  Man, if this works, and the spread all but stops and starts reversing, I'm guessing from next summer on is gonna be virtual boom time.  Once the first flights into Thailand start and no epidemic is seen it'll pick up exponentially I suspect.

Now, question is this...you know how when a hotel has it's occupancy cut in half, say by a coup, or a flood or whatever, the hotel in it's Thai wisdom DOUBLES room rates?  Will they be doing that from the first wave on?  We may get LOS open but at such high new all around rates it's of little joy.  Barfines of 1000, avg short time of 3000, average street meal 200 and so on.  Hoping competition keeps that from happening.

Pfizer vaccine ready.

Pfizer thinks they will have 50 million doses ready by the end of the year. The US maybe will get 10 million of those. I have no idea what quantity other countries are suppose to get. Two doses are required so cut that number in half. It will probably be at least spring (if lucky) or summer until the average guy can get his two jabs. Of course by then there maybe more than one vaccine. I'm OK with that as it will give more time to see if the vaccine testers turn in to lepers or something. :o)

I  think I read we get 2 million (Pfizer). Time table as of now is risk groups and other important people get it Q1 and 2, us other mortals Q3 and 4.

Like you say , this is Pfizer and there are a few others in the pipeline. Yes, I don't expect to get mine before june or july, but things  are moving fast so who knows. We'll miss Songkran I'm afraid.

Reading more into the Pfizer vaccine it states that it must be stored at, minus 70 degrees Centegrade . This is going to make it not so easy to distribute and administer.

Especially in Thailand where the beer I'm often served is sometimes warmish!

Over 140,000 new Covid case yesterday in the US of A.  To put that in perspective, daily new cases a month ago were "only" around 70,000.   America First!

It's a hoax, you know.

The United Kingdom on Wednesday became the fifth country in the world to record more than 50,000 coronavirus-related deaths, a level that one of the nation’s leading doctors says “should never have been reached.”

The U.K, which has the highest virus-related death toll in Europe, joins the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico in reporting more than 50,000, according to a tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University.

______________

I have never seen our prime minister this subdued as tonights appearance.

Our numbers have tripled in a week, obviously amid more testing, but still worrying.  We are doing same as N.Y. , banning booze after 10 pm in bars.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/sweden-to-ban-sale-of-alcohol-after-10pm-to-curb-covid19-sale-sweden-prime-minister-covid-government-b1721436.html

Sweden s prime minister said Wednesday his government will present a law proposal that would ban nationwide the sale of alcohol after 10 p.m. in bars restaurants and night clubs from Nov. 20 in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Stefan Lofven said that “we are facing a (COVID-19) situation that risks becoming pitch-black” and added that Sweden “currently is risking a situation like the one we had last spring.”

Sweden has witnessed record numbers of new coronavirus infections in past weeks, which is burdening the country's health care system and intensive care wards.

“All indications point in the wrong direction,” Lofven said at a joint news conference with Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren.

Hallengren said that all places with a permission to serve alcohol must close 30 minutes after 10 pm, and described these places — particularly bars and night clubs — as “risk environments.”

Earlier Wednesday, the Swedish capital reintroduced a ban on visiting elderly care homes after a coronavirus spike was reported in retirement facilities in Stockholm

Sweden, which has opted to keep parts of its society open, lifted in September a national ban on visiting elderly care homes, saying the need for a restraining order there had decreased.

This looks a bit more promising than the Pfizer vaccine. As it's going to avoid the Warm beer effect.     :drinks:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8953179/Coronavirus-Modernas-vaccine-94-5-effective-early-results-Britain-bought-it.html

The jab is expected to cost $15.25 (£11.57) per dose, so $30.50 (£23.14) per person, which is slightly cheaper than the $19.50 (£14.79) per dose charged to the US by Pfizer.

Moderna's may be cheaper to distribute, however, because it can be kept in a fridge for up to a month and transported in normal freezers at -20°C (-4°F). Nations will not need to buy expensive specialist freezers or the global supply of dry ice, which experts warned would be a drawback of Pfizer's jab which must be kept at -70°C (-94°F).

Yes, this is inevitable. More are coming through too. I (don't) feel sorry for the mugs who moved all their hard earned  cash to invest in Pfizer. I know of a few guys who wet themselves last tuesday and invested a lot in Pfizer.

In the next few days probably Astra Zeneca announcing an even better vaccine than Moderna.

Love the "market". Gents, place your bets.

I was watching CNBC business network early this morning when the Moderna CEO was on and talking about the results. I knew those 5AM "old man gotta get up and go to the head" bathroom trips would pay off eventually.

Later there was a discussion about what happens if the vaccines still to come are only 70-80% effective. In the past 70% wasn't considered so bad. But everyone will want the 90%+ vaccines. Until there is enough for everyone 70% is better than 0% I guess.
